True story. The Monday morning after this movie came out, I went into work and found my boss's house keys on my desk with a note "please feed the cats while we're gone" (which I'd done before but this time no warning.) He called in later in the day with his story: He saw Hook over the weekend. He felt so bad for all of his son's baseball games he'd missed that he packed up the whole family and immediately flew them all to Disney World!

That's awesome. It reminds me of a story I heard about the original little mermaid movie, where a father searched for his estranged daughter and made up with each other, all because he watched the movie and was effeted by its message. I heard that on its dvd commentary. Ah, the power of fairy tales.

@@Molly.Wobbles Damn.... 2 out of those 4 I have not seen yet. 😅 But I'm planning to watch Train To Busan with a friend of mine soon, maybe around halloween time either this year or next year. I can cry for A TON of movies. Usually those are my favorites. 😅 but I also know different types of crying. Usually it's the type, when I see something heartwarming, beautiful or magical. But there can also be little excitement tears like when I'm so pumped about a soundtrack (like Rocky 4 montage or Twister) or performance. Very rarely it's a sad cry. Like have you seen Lord Of The Rings? There's a character that dies in the third movie and he's talking to his daughter while he does, I don't wanna spoil too much if you haven't seen it. But it's like, he was dying mid sentence and the last word he says is her name. I don't know, that one always hit me particularly powerful. But I just named that as one example to give you a usual idea of my feelings. But I even got a few tears just typing this case right now. 😅🤭 I just love movies exactly because of that. Because of how they make me feel. 🥰

That terrified, weeping, pirate placed in the boo box was Glenn Close, who played Robin Williams' mother in The World According To Garp, also starring John Lithgow as his best friend. She is also known for The Big Chill and Fatal Attraction, all movies you should see. Smee was the lead human in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, and I enjoyed his performance in Shattered. Jack appeared in What About Bob? starring Richard Dreyfuss and Bill Murray. The song sung by Peter's daughter was the only retained from those created for the film when it was still going to be a musical with Michael Jackson as Peter. This was Gwyneth Paltrow's first speaking role, as young Wendy. She's best known for Shakespeare in Love, and for playing Pepper Potts in the MCU. Please watch Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, Steel Magnolias, and My Best Friend's Wedding--and please watch Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, All the President's Men with Robert Redford, Tootsie with Bill Murray and Teri Garr, Dick Tracy, Meet the Fockers with Robert De Niro, Kramer vs. Kramer, Rain Man with Tom Cruise, and Kung Fu Panda!

I felt like in Peter Pan the moral is that even though the idea of staying a kid is alluring, there’s so much of life that you miss out on if you never grow up. And then the moral in hook is not exactly the opposite but, that if you completely forget and dismiss childhood and everything it means once you’ve grown up you also miss out on a lot of life, such as bonding with and relating to your children.

If you read the book you’ll find that there are references to the original play and book in almost every line of dialogue in this movie. It’s amazing. I love how you guys are almost speechless at the end. This movie defined my childhood. I borrowed it so many times from my grandma that she told me to keep it. I hadn’t seen it in several years now, but I still have it almost memorized to this day. And yes it is John Williams; it’s one of his most underrated underappreciated masterpieces.

I love darker and more grownup versions of fairy tales. This version is by far my favourite version, and is a great character piece. It feels routed in human emotion, making it FAR more relatable, and really speaks to an adult audience because with all the politics in the world today, we can often lose sight of what the freedom our old child like imagination once granted us. No other medium teaches morals or life lessons or even the realitys of life quite like the genre of fantasy and Fairy tales. Robin William's performance really sells that moral, as he can act the fool, the fun, and the mature all in one performance. Man what a legend. Dustin Hoffmans Hook is my equivalent to Heath Ledgers Joker. And this is by far one of John Williams best scores he's ever written. Plus, out of all fantasy genres, anything nautical related is soooooo up my street! Really enjoyed this reaction guys, and I'm so glad you found it as powerful as I did when I was a kid, and on a whole new level as an adult.

This was originally going to be a musical that had a Christmas Day release date 1985 from Paramount, but production of the movie was halted as Steven Spielberg was too busy working on Oscar nominated epics like The Color Purple, Empire Of The Sun, and Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade. After wrapping up Always in 1989, he finally got to make HOOK. Michael Jackson was considered to play Peter Pan, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with his concert venues. David Bowie, Tim Curry and Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones were considered for Captain Hook. Julia Roberts, Tinkerbell, did not like working with Spielberg at all, calling him a "selfish person and a man child who was difficult to work with." Crew members called her TinkerHELL, due to the onset drama between her and Spielberg. The movie was a box office success, making $300 million dollars against a $75 million dollar budget. It recieved mixed to negative Reviews by Critics, but has been considered a cult classic.

This is truly my absolute favorite Peter Pan film hands and hook down. I’ve actually been involved in two productions of Peter Pan. The first one was a version that we had wrote based on the book and I was Smee in that one. The second production I did was the actual Broadway production and I was one of the pirates. I recently learned that the moment Peter choose a Thud as his successor, the reactions are genuine. Spielberg and Robin Williams knew who would get the sword and kept quiet about it. So none of the Lost Boys ever knew who would be the successor. At the 25th anniversary, Dante Bosco as well as the other last boys squeeze backed into their lost boy costumes and honored Robin Williams, since he was not there to share a happy moment with them. RIP Robin Williams.

It was criticized negatively by critics at the time and I pity them and anyone who thinks the same; I see them as individuals who lost their imagination, because that itself is necessary to enjoy a film like this. So glad you reacted to Hook as well as the two Peter Pans. It has become an essential part of the story. All of Peter's "background lore" is accurate to the books -- he ran away to Kensington Gardens as a baby because he heard his mother talking about how he'd have to grow up one day, and Tink found him there and took him to Neverland. I'd also enjoy seeing you react to Finding Neverland. :-)

The building tension on that scene where they come home to the house in shambles and the children gone is soooo good. Quite a few amusing cameos in this movie. Phil Collins is the police inspector to whom Tootles says he's forgotten how to fly, Carrie Fisher and George Lucas are the kissing couple that start floating off the bridge, and my favorite is Glenn Close as the pirate that gets thrown in the chest of scorpions for betting against Hook.

This movie is my childhood in a sense and to this day one of my absolute favorite movies. I believe Carrie Fisher and George Lucas are in little cameos in the background as well. People were so enchanted by this film that actors would stop by set and just want to be in it voluntarily (so the rumor goes). It is one of my favorite Robin Williams performances as well. I love how realistic peter feels at the beginning. Robin Williams genuinely reads as a stressed out parent thats over-obsorbed in his work. And the way his son just says "im sorry" after being screamed at is too realistic, I've been that child and ive seen that child too many times that it just hurts watching that scene. You can see the fear on the sister's face while she watches it happen, I've seen/been that child too. And that's such a hard thing to fake experiencing, there's a true look of fear and sadness on her face. The actors were perfectly chosen for this movie, they probably gave the best performance ever given by actors❤❤❤❤

This movie is my childhood - i had the pleasure of watching it on its 25th anniversary at the Long Center I think in Austin, the writer, his grown son that inspired him to write the story, Dante Basco (Rufio) and a couple of the lost boys were there and did a q&a (they mostly talked about Robin - you could tell how much he impacted them all). The best part was being in an audience of all fellow millennials - they gave us props, one being inflatable swords so we could attack our neighbors during battle scenes…what a treat.

Strangely, we didn't do Peter Pan. I was in drama classes, and our big production was Little Shop of Horrors. I was going to play Audrey, but alas.. My illness ruined it for me by latching onto the sickness in the air at school. Blasted winter months, and students who just don't know how to cover their mouths. My understudy, from what I heard, did good. The gal doing Audrey II was talked about for the rest of the year, she nailed it - which sucks that I couldn't see her beyond rehearsals. The backstory of Hook's pre-production is just as interesting as the film itself. Maggie's Oscar-nominated was a remnant of the film's musical score, which included a Broadway show's worth of songs. Spielberg later said he chickened out of taking on the musical genre at the time, but after seeing his successful adaptation of West Side Story, I'm even more interested to see what a musical Hook would be like. So many films are turned into Broadway musicals and are so uninspired, but I could see this being an amazing stage musical. They've been flying actresses in the role of Peter in the musical since the 50s. It's always so cathartic to watch you guys experience films like this that are so close to my heart. The tv show Once Upon a Time had a great take on Peter Pan where he was more of a villain and extremely intelligent and manipulative. His lost boys were older and violent covered in scars from “playing”. Pan also moonlighted as the Pied Piper and his song would attract boys who were not loved at home hence being “ lost boys”. Hook was actually the good guy on revenge mission for his brother Pan had killed years before. The show did an incredible job in my opinion writing the character along with the actor Robbie Kay who played him. Cheers guys always have a good time watching your reactions.

JM Barrie also intended Pan as the villain of his own story originally. Hook and Tick-Tock the Croc were added as set decoration for theatre productions and became a hallmark ever since.
