My dad’s an insurance agent, and he’s thankful for the rise in dash cam popularity. I myself have been involved in three accidents (thankfully all minor). The first, I was rear-ended at low speed when traffic stopped on the interstate - ironically, driving home after having maintenance done. The second was my fault for stopping too late and driving on worn tires. I bought a dash cam between that and my third accident - and saved myself from two citations, points on my license (in the US, you accumulate “points” from more serious traffic violations. Rack up enough, and they pull your license), and paying thousands in damages. The way the crash settled _looked_ like I had made a dangerous left turn and hit the other driver. In reality, he’d crested a blind hill while speeding and using the center/merging lane as a lane of travel. Oh, and he repeatedly smacked his head into his steering wheel after the collision until he bruised, and tried to claim injury. So that was nice. Sorry for the text wall. Just... dash cams. Get one.
