Jimmy Carr got on the Jubilee Line in London and sat opposite me. He clearly noticed that I recognised him, but I never said anything to him as assumed he gets fed up with that. When he got off at St Johns Wood he looked at me and said "have a good day". Nice of him to appreciate that I had left him in peace.

I went to see Jimmy Carr a month ago and it was one of the best stand up shows I've been to. I've run comedy clubs in the past so I've seen a lot of comedians! Yes he can be close to the bone but they are JOKES, but that's made obvious and they always come from a good place. Nobody walked out of this show. And I've never seen anybody better than him when talking with the audience - he actually ENCOURAGED heckles and I've barely seen anyone respond with better off the cuff one liners than him. Jimmy Carr is one of my favourite comedians, for his speed of thought and word play. Some other favourites are: Sean Lock (RIP) for his relatable mad guy next door persona, Ross Noble for being energetically nuts, Dara O'Briain for his story-telling, but there are so many more. If there's one thing the Brits have in spades, it's top-notch and diverse comedians. PS: I don't think many, if any, people walk out of Jimmy's sets, it's well known what you're going to get. And he does do a lot of quick 1-2 liners, broken up with the odd longer gag.

Other than that, obvious one to react to is Al Murray's Pub Landlord (specifically the World - I think its called, when he goes around every country GB has owned, conquered or conquered by default) Older ones, being more tv series being: Some Mother do Ave em' (my picture) The Two Ronnies (specifically - Four Candles sketch) Only Fools and Horses (specifically - The bar sketch) Other one liners: (yes some of these are american/canadian but they mainly do GB scene) Tim Vine Stuart Francis Milton Jones

Dave Allen (I had to watch re-runs as I was only a nipper when his original TV series were on). As a teenager I was introduced to the classics by Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor, so maybe I've been lucky generation-wise. Growing up there were plenty of British comedians who were trying to emulate their sort of humour, but they were always unbroadcastable until they released their shows on VHS/DVD. Which ended up with a glut of them on the DVD shelves around Xmas time. There's also Viz magazine which has been going around for 35+ years. All in all, far too many to choose from. Their Profanisaurus is a good book to acquire (no longer updated). I've bought and donated a few copies to friends of mine in Germany over the years :)

I saw Frankie Boyle live. Most comedians enjoy making their audience laugh, but Frankie took way more delight in hearing shocked and disgusted gasps. His peak material would be stuff you'd laugh at, but then immediately realise you were going to hell for doing so. I think my favourite comedian of all time is Billy Conolly. Another Scottish comic. Masterful storyteller and and incredibly witty man.

Try Dave Allen. Hilarious!

Some recommendations to put a variety in British standup comedy (in case you want to skip over the obvious one, Ricky Gervais): Sara Pascoe, Danny Bhoy, Sarah Millican, Sindhu Vee, Shappi Khorsandi

I don’t really have a favourite per se, but in historical order, Dave Allen, Suzy Izzard (who will appear as Eddie Izzard) - they both tell stories most of the time - and Milton Jones - who mostly tells one-liners. But Britain has a long tradition of sketch comedy too, The Two Ronnies, Porridge, Dad's Army and more are all worth checking out

Bill Burr and Jim Jefferies are my most beloved stand-up comedians. Always worth
