What fascinates me is the fact that a bunch of kids basically operate the whole ship... I mean 18-20 year olds, you gotta admit that's quite an young age in modern age we live in, of course officers and all that higher ranking are older guys, and some who keep staying or returning back to Navy or military as such, those are men are above 30's if not 25+ (depending when one enlists in military, but I am imagining the 18 years being the starting point). It feels like kids are doing all this stuff for most of the part (leading vehicles, checking explosive stuff, maintaining heavy machinery that costs in hundreds of thousands up to millions ) :D it's quite amazing and fascinating, but weird as well. Hard to explain the "weird" factor here, but it's just a very...very highly responsible job that everyone, or at least the biggest portion of them all, is doing on the Carrier. It was no different back in WW2 and Vietnam as well, bunch of kids basically, maybe even younger than 18 year olds were enlisting...and all the battleships, destroyers, cruisers, all were operated and maintained by kids, teens.

My husband was on the Lincoln for two deployments (a while back before you probably joined). Scrubbing the flight deck was usually done when the ship was heading home to get rid of sea salt, etc. He worked on the flight deck at night .. that was his daily work schedule. You are so right! Not for the faint of heart! Great video! Keep them coming! Glad you are part of the Navy vet fam! :)

cool video bro, I never did think that life in the Military was easy, it's easier than it used to be, but it's still not easy, but yeah, working on a ship would separate the boys from the men, got the ocean, the weather and a job to compete with and thank you for it.

Mess Decks/Scullery (Galley Dishwasher) - Thank God I didn't do that for TAD; rather, I was assigned to First Lieutenant (a.k.a. "First Louie," the janitorial detail of a unit) when I was in VFA-192, which was mostly cleaning berthing spaces and doing laundry for the rest of the enlisted folks. Sure, picking up "Frownie Brownies" and sweaty jerseys from the laundry containers are horrid for a task. But, hey! It beats having to repetitively scrub dirty dishes, glasses, and utensils for 12 straight hours. Night Ops - It can get really scary as it's almost pitch black up on the flight deck (I worked nights mostly, btw). Top that off with the rain and, ugh! Thank goodness, I mostly remember the maintenance work I did on the hangar bay and recalled this one instance when I almost fell asleep while "Brake Riding" an F/A-18E Super Hornet from the hangar up to the flight deck (when I was in VFA-115). Good times! Rule of thumb for environments like that: "You can NEVER get used to this environment nor become complacent. If you do, then something's wrong with you, and you need to seek help immediately." Flight Deck Fun Run - Never did. ' Nuff said!
