@@User-kq3od Several groups of aquatic reptiles appeared soon after de Permian Extinction and evolved continuously during all Mesozoic. Thus it is quite difficult to make a proper phylogenetic classification (kinship) and there are scientific debates today. @@CryosisOfficial of course, those creature are all GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms), so they are not truly dinosaurs or another back-to-life extinct reptiles. Although this movie was fun and threw in a lot of wild scenarios, I miss how the first movie handled its serious emotional moments. While I realize the pressure was on for the characters to keep moving, I wish we could’ve seen more emotional depth around them, especially for MeiYing’s character as a 14 year old who should be dealing with the mixed emotions of getting to see deep beneath the sea like her mother while also witnessing people being eaten and imploding before her eyes. I don’t think she or anyone else has to take a total shift into being completely fragile but seeing more emotional vulnerability would have added a lot; I think there was a way to show the gravity of what was going on and how it’s affecting the characters, while still keeping the nonstop crazy action and not affecting runtime by much. I also wish the villains weren’t as cartoonishly evil. While corporate greed is a believable evil and really common in the monster movie genre, their bland motive just felt uninspiring and forgettable, especially given that the first movie handled its greed-fueled character in a much less stereotypical manner. As it is, while I was still rooting for the characters, seeing so many survive and seem so unaffected by their experience kinda made me enjoy the movie less than the first, since there seemed to be much more genuine heart to the characters in that one. I will also say that I like that DJ had growth between the two films and became an action hero in his own right, as a result of learning from the events of the first movie (events that a lot of the other characters didn’t seem to learn from). I also kind of wish one of the central messages from the first film “it’s about who you *can* save” was more prevalent, though I realize the villains of this one made it not as applicable of a phrase

Absolutely LOVED this film. the main reason I was hyped for them doing a sequel was because i am a huge fan of the books, and Angel is my favorite part of the series so i was SO happy they kept her in the film (i didn't mind that they changed her name to Haiqi). in the book it was alot less ambiguous with her. she had been raised in captivity like here, and she knew jonas. and there were scenes where she very obviously chooses not to kill jonas, and outright saves him in other scenes, like in this film with Jiuming. but i would be fine if it just became a running gag where she DOESN'T kill the main characters, but it looks like she just gets distracted by something else. the rest of the film was a blast, insane action, funny dialogue, self awareness and some really tense moments. I hope they continue with this series.

not so much a middle finger as a fun jab, but yeah, it ABSOLUTELY was a jab at the Jurassic park series. as said the opening scene here is the opening scene from the first book. and the first book was published in 97, the same year as The Lost World. infact, it came out just one month after the lost world opened in theaters. one of the review tag lines on the inside cover was even "Jurassic Shark". it had other references too. Pippin was a reference to the dog that apparently gets eaten in Jaws, also called pippin. and pippin was actually in the first book, it belonged to Jonas' ex-wife. and ended up in a similar situation.

They're not supposed to be anything. Some sites say they're based on Koreanosaurus (which looks nothing alike), that they're Kronosaurs (which look nothing alike). There's nothing scientific about the Meg movies. There's fictional amphibians, an octopus ridiculously larger than any that ever existed and megalodons which are at least 3 times bigger than the biggest megalodon jaws/teeth ever found. Dinosaurs went extinct at least 40 million years before megalodon existed. Whatever those snappers are based on, only Kronosaurs lived during the late Cretaceous, together with T-Rex, but Kronosaurs are marine reptiles, not amphibians. Nothing in these movies is even remotely accurate and that's not the point of it either. It's just supposed to be brainless, ridiculous fun.

No. They dont resemble any real life animal, at least not any semi-aquatic nor deep sea ones. Theyre just a science fiction creature made for the movie. And saying something that went extinct before dinosaurs were a thing is related to MODERN DAY humans? Nah, we are more related to Trex or Bananas.

Watched this one in Dolby Cinema at AMC. The opening scene is from the first in the MEG novel series. Would've been cooler to see in the first film. Like the first film, it's another big budget B-movie. But it pulls from one direction to another. It wants to be fun, action packed and suspenseful. But takes a stroll through some serious drama (like it or not). Twists and turns with the human characters and just having to deal with the creatures from the treach The effects are pretty good. Every creature including the Megalodon(s) look formidable. Another smash for Statham ($390 mil worldwide) plus he returns for Expendables 4 in September. MEG 3 is definitely going to happen.

Also watch that & REC it's the best found footage horror ever. ❤️👏 Its obviously not possible to not get crushed at that depth. Jason Statham would have turned into a peanut 😂🥜. But people do survive quite a pressure though for example 1000ft without any protection suit. But you'll have to spend days(depending on how many seconds you spend down there) decompressing underwater just to get all the nitrogen bubnles formed in body cavities out. Also you'll have to use special nitrox blend (not normal air but more nitrogen & little bit oxygen & helium) or even pure Helium so not to get narc'd or nitrogen narcosis.

First was a little smarter than Sharknado and worked, this one was a little dumber and didn't really work for me. They should have left the Sharks as the main antagonists, not the corruption.

it follows the books in that regard tbh. after the first book, Angel (haiqi) was the only meg in the series for awhile. it was either other giant sea creatures, or corrupt humans, with Angel being the Godzilla/Rexy of the series. IE a protector. the other megs here was taken from one of the later books.

@RaptorNX01 are the books written to be dumb fun like the movies, or are they smarter? I feel like this one was just too crowded (plot wise) too fast for a fun monster movie, perhaps The Meg could have set it up better if they thought they might get a sequel lol.

@@Rocco1332 oh, they definitely changed things a bit thinking they weren't getting a sequel (fair considering it took 20 years just to get made). in the book it was revealed fairly early the Meg had been pregnant. she gives birth just before the final confrontation. the very last scene of the book is Mac and the team capturing the baby (angel). but yeah, even the books weren't meant to be taken too seriously. some of the jokes are from the book. like the dog pippin was in the first book and the same thing happens as the first film. even Jonas' name was kind of a joke. in the first book Jonas kills the meg by flying the glider sub into the shark's mouth and down its throat. He climbs out of the sub, and uses the meg tooth he had been carrying thru the whole book (long story), to cut his way thru the fish. then rips out the shark's heart with his bare hands. the series actually get WAY crazier then whats in this movie. although, this film is nothing like the second book, except for the scenes with angel/haiqi. no megs or giant octopus, just a kronosaurus that escapes the trench and goes on a rampage, leaving jonas and angel to take it down. the megs and octo are from later books.

I liked the film. The craziest thing was that a really good friend of mine watched this with me when it came out and realized we saw Meg 1 exactly 5 years prior to the date! We both enjoyed the film. Very popcorn style which is fine. But the first had more emotional depth with the characters and felt more complete compaired with this one. I think if they were able to make the villans more personal with our characters and have a bit more emoitional depth with Jason, his now new kid, and the uncle could have made this movie better than the first. Meg isn't mindblowing but the first felt more solid. Love yalls reaction and was fun to watch Meg 2 again.

I think the shark that killed the squid was Haiqi.
