I struggled for a long time trying to decide if i want micro locs…i decided to do mini twists as my main style. I love the fullness of my mini twists, one thing i don’t care for about micro locs is that they get thin as the hair gets packed into interlocs…and my edges are already thin so i was scared…I twist my hair like every 2-3 weeks and my 400+ twists look like a full wash n go. I get trims every three months so my ends stay curly for my twists..and that’s my new hair journey. My goal is to grow my twists to 18-22 inches…I’m right at shoulder length now. Also it’s super workout friendly.

This is so me. I can't decide on the size I want so I've stuck with cornrows for the past year. But they're hard to maintain when you try to keep a weekly cleaning routine without taking the whole thing down, so I just recently switched to twists

Your locs are gorgeous. When we compare we will always find those with more and those with less. It’s Okay just don’t fixate. It’s another thing entirely to admire the beauty of someone else’s locs…and you did do that plenty. One of the beautiful features about locs is how they look different on everyone. The type of hair you loc and the density of the hair will determine a lot about how the locs will look. It’s not too late to retwist your locs regularly and see if your locs thicken. I interlock my 210 locs and they are quite full. I’m just 1 year and 8 months loc’d so I may not be experiencing thinning yet and my locs are not as long. I’m happy they sit on my neck and touch my shoulders. If you decide to retwist, Over time you may need to locksmith your locs and wrap loose strands of hair around the loc to keep the shape of the loc consistent. Best of luck! Yours was one of the first loc KZbin channels I followed when I started researching microlocs. 🎉

I retwist my microlocs. I have half the density you have. Lol! I think it’s fun while microlocs are short or medium to have them fuller. But once they are longer I think you’ll love that they are a bit flatter. I think to also have full micro locs you have to give up the idea of “polished or neat” parts all the time. It’s that messy new growth that creates juicy locs lol

I got sisterlocks in 2015 and I paid $550. That's with consultation, the installation, and the first retightening and I started with 5in of hair. I also know it also depends where the consultant is located for the price. In big cities like NYC, they charge way more. I'm glad I'm in lil ol NC $2000 is steep....soooo almost $9k, she most definitely got it

Hey Keke! I love your loc journey! If you're looking for more fullness, you could try 2 point rotation instead of 4 pt or 3 pt. I've done some research and it seems like 2 pt lets your locs swell and gives more fullness. I haven't done my first retie yet, so not speaking from experience....but thats what Michelle Obama's internet has told me 😂 . Also YES GIRL NO MORE COMPARING!!!!!!!!!!!! You look good! I have a 2 consultation coming up for sisterlocs. I know ones rates are $1400 for 0-4 inches and $100 for each inch above that. My hair is currently 10-14 inches with avg being about 12. I think it’s typical to charge $75-100 more from I’ve found unless they have a range system. But if she paid above $3k that’s foolish and a bit extreme for avg people. That’s a celebrity install price... Great video. Definitely need an update video. You sent me down this path with your second install! But you evolve as does your journey. I know you do it all yourself but maybe consult a loctitian just to get a different perspective.

I definitely understand what you mean by wanting thicker locs. I interlocked a couple of times and noticed how thinner it looked compared to the locs I retwisted. I've been retwisting for a couple months now and I'm so glad I went with that. Try retwisting a few times and compare the interlock sections and the retwist sections. It'll be a nice experiment, and you may see the results you've been looking for.

your hair probably isn't as voluminous as it used to be because you bleached it, not to fear though, as your roots grow out a bit (give it a few months) it will become thicker again :)

Giiiirl I feel you about your locs looking flat and not as thick now that they're reaching maturity and more compressed. I stopped interlocking back in February I think. I palm roll everything but the perimeter locs since they’re way smaller than the and I think my locs are fuller now. It might be in my head lol or it was going to happen anyway but I don’t think I’ll go back to interlocking my full head.

You can satisfy your traditional loc urge if you retwist and style your hair. When I retwist my hair, I have to put it in a style for 2 weeks before I can wear my hair down just so my new growth will learn to hold the twist (like how many traditional loc people do it). The way I style it is I gather 4 microlocs, braid the retwist part of the locs, then twist it down like a regular two strand. I have roughly 70 jumbo twists when I finish and they resemble traditional locs. Try that and see how it goes for you, you'll really get the best of both worlds😁

I started my microloc journey in March. Its been a interesting experience. I think I will start doing a 2 point rotation rather than the 4 point rotation I've been doing to get a fluffier look. My hair is still curly which I love though!

I have been wanting to get micro locks for so long and I am really wondering what the pros and cons would be of getting micro lock extensions as opposed to just starting with my own hair. I’ve also been curious about what the progress is of a person who does start their micro Locs with natural human hair extensions and how the hair blends with their own over time? I can’t help but think about what it’s like when you have braids in for a long time lol definitely looking to get more details and inspiration because everything the last several months has been pushing me towards going ahead and starting my micro lock, journey and videos like this definitely keep me inspired and looking forward to it :-)

So I actually have a comment on how you said your locs were feeling flat. I think with any type of loc that is interlocked you will end up with flatness when they mature unless you have maybe high 500s and above. I say this because I had larger traditional locs for 5 years, then undid them due to flatness and my scalp being visible. I got high 400s sisterlocks to counteract this the second time around. Now about 2.5 years in and I think I'll be comfortable with the level of fluff. I would say just do a braidout whenever you want volume.

I don’t know much about locs but I’ve started my journey recently and I’ve done KZbin research lol it seems like interlocking creates a tighter compacted loc so the interlocked loc looks skinnier than if you retwist the loc. retwist in giant as compact bc like you said it doesn’t last and it untwists a little. But that gives thickness.

Mine are microlocs with extensions. I’m 3 months in. My hair started at 6 inches pre-install.with the install i got a nice layered 10 in situation. Loving every sec of it. I can say i am going thru the whoas that comes with the microloc journey…. But I’m happy to be here.

Great comments. I struggled at the 2 yr point too, but I am now over 9 yrs in and still enjoying my hair. To make your locs look thicker at this stage just trim the ends of the locs that do not hold a curl. It will add volume and layering back to your hair.
