The passing of Shanks hat to Luffy is like the passing of the torch to the next generation. It shows how Shanks is putting his faith into Luffy and is one of the most emotional moments of the episode. Really Well done!

the fact that matt owens was already friends with him, made him read the script, and then encouraged him to audition is wonderful. the casting team and the showrunners and producers including oda (becauee he’s an executive producer) really did well in choosing the actors. even some of the things iñaki and usopp did in their auditions actually made the final cut of the show!

I thought Buggy was very unique when I was younger, but now he's my favorite. Buggy is such an amazing character with so much personality. He is so nostalgic for me. Jeff did an amazing job helping me realize how fun Buggy was and still is. I love what they did to him in the recent manga panels

"Here end the... theatrics" *proceeds to do the most theatrical maneuver yet.* This is why we love Buggy so much. Also, it has been 100% confirmed by the original creator that there will not be any romance between the crew members, and that was a very big point of contention. He had to force netflix to give it to him in writing that they would never introduce romantic partnerships between crew members in the live action. There are several side romances that form along the way, though, so don't worry, there will be cute couples in this series... eventually.

he didn’t force netflix lol. matt was the start of it all and being a one piece fan first and foremost just like all of us, he was also against any romantic relationships amongst the strawhats, and it was because of him that oda ultimately agreed and gave him permission for the show. he’s said this multiple times: from various interviews, the one piece reverie podcast, his collab videos with nuxanor, and the official netflix press notes.

@@hellbunniez3 My understanding was that there were meetings with higher-ups/suits/execs who wanted there to be romantic subplots added in, Matt didn't want to add them, but it wasn't until Oda put his foot down and said 'that will never happen' that they actually backed down. That is definitely a 'friend of a friend of a friend heard it thorugh the grapevine' sort of rumor, so it may be largely fictionalized, or even entirely fabricated.

Extra manga lore for LA only viewers: 1. In the manga Buggy had terrorized the town for months killing and stealing. Townsfolk was free in the version but their lives were in constant danger because Buggy LOVES explosives and blows them up on random. Hence the name "Flashy fool". There's a lot of storyarcs removed regarding the villagers so I will leave them unaddressed. (not important at all for the story or the main characters). :) 2. Nami was originally introduced here but it was moved earlier in the show. She was trying to steal the map from Buggy + any tressure she could get her hands on. Nami was always stealing from pirates they encountered. 3. Luffy mentioned last episode about his great plan to jump on the bird and fly to the base. He did it with buggy and it turned out to be albatross (giant seagul) and it tried to eat Luffy alive while flying. He only survived because Buggy was having 'shoot dem birds' day and shot it down for fun not knowing what was going on up there.

Devil Fruit users have a weakness to the sea, if they are submerged in it. However, in the source material, it's more of a metaphor (sorta) as they are weak to literally _any_ form of liquid. Doesn't matter what the liquid is, they're weak to it when submerged enough (some vague approximation). If that had been in the live-action, it would completely confuse the average (non-anime casual/non-One Piece casual) viewer. So the bts crew likely kept it at just seawater.

The creator of the series made it clear multiple times that there’s no growing romance between the main crew. Maybe with those outside the crew but that depends because romance isn’t a big plot point in the series.

There is ironclad rule more like a warning from the author to the show makers that there should be no romance among the crew. They just love each other as a family member loves other family members. They are more like Found family and siblings.

Btw, Shanks doesn't have a devil fruit powers. All devil fruit users grow weak and lose their powers when submerged in water. Shanks swam to get Luffy. His powers/strength are from something else that isn't fully introduced until much much later. Devil fruits are quite rare. I think the only Devil Fruit users you see in season 1 of this show are Luffy and Buggy, except for some in the background that only anime watchers or manga readers will recognize.
