I am really really envious , I found that white youtubers get near 0% of racist comments, virtually every single black youtuber from the UK and elsewhere receives a huuuuge amount of racist comments. i feel like because of that alone your digital life is nearly noise free. I would take being called a C**T, twat , go home etc.. over the overly racist comments any damn day of the week. I still run a semi secret blog a whole decade later although, i paused for a few months , and with a small readership but 10x angry lurkers, I am still amazed at the number of people who not only threaten to doxx me, hang me , choke me with bananas, send me creative golliwog art work, the racist creative lingo is so creative that there are whole new sets of words and of racist expressions that i only discover when they land on my DM and i have to google them to find out when the trends started. I spent hours of commute just editing out racist comments, regular mean insults, i am unbothered by those.

I pity the existence of those who do not grasp the value of the perspectives and thought-provoking content you provide. In the digital age a trained monkey can achieve perfect exposure and line up the rule of thirds in a view finder. You, my friend, emphasize the art over the mechanical which is what separates great from good. Thank you for the wonderful content.

Wait... so if art is subjective, and it then follows that everyone's opinion on said art is correct and acceptable, then not only is their opinion that it is good "correct and acceptable," but our opinion that it is utter shit is, too. So who's pretentious now? Love your work Jamie. Consistently impressive.

MetalDog MetalDog ~ Not only are "your first 10,000 photos... bad", two out of three of all the rest will be bad - and that would even be great odds. I'm a commercial product shooter that started in film and transitioned to digital when it became viable - and by that I mean that while I continued to work in film, I bought and used, well, three shelves of digitals on the wall in my studio that range from Apple's postage stamp maker, the QuickTake II to the 10MP Nikon D200, which is when I made the switch and never looked back (2006?). The truth is that in the days of film, that one-in-three ratio could actually be achieved simply because film costs money. Whether you were pro or hobbyist, you had to have a budget and that made you think before bearing down on that shutter button. That's why we used to say that, "The biggest difference between a pro and an amateur is the size of their wastepaper basket." Now, as Vincent Versace once said, "It's fire away", which translates to MAYBE one-in-twenty. Don't get my wrong, I would never go back, but the truth is that there is a preponderance of pure shit out there. On the bright side, it also means when you know what you're doing, you miss less often because you don't hesitate, you "fire away". PS On transitioning to digital, I'm reminded of the early days, I was a beta tester of Photoshop. Before digital came to fruition, there were a few years where you would shoot film and scan to edit. Prior to Photoshop V5, there was no ICC (International Color Consortium) so no color profiling. You would also need to send the finished files out to be printed and most often to the service bureau you trusted. With no ICC profiles there was no telling how your colors might be interpreted since what might be fire-engine red on your monitor could be rusty orange on theirs. So I remember one day I packed up my Viewsonic 20inch CRT behemoth and trucked it on down to the bureau to sit down with my main printer man so we could take handwritten notes on each other's monitors. Now I just send the files that speak for themselves and if it's personal work and I want a print, I just fire up my big ass nine-color Epson and put it on canvas if I so choose. Of course, I'd never "go back". Didn't mean to write an essay, but I was waiting for one of those prints as I type. Cheers

Ditto :-) I remember meeting a guy enrolled in the directors studies at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Aus (our most prestigious performing arts school) and discussing my desire to be an actor. He suggested I would never succeed as I was studying nursing and would always have something to fall back on. I vowed to prove him wrong and I did give up nursing and worked professionally as an actor for two years but ultimately I decided to return to nursing (a career that has given me much and which I love). I reckon he may have been right but "such is life" :-)

What REALLY sold me was your vid on how to overcome the fears associated with street portrait photography. I plucked up the guts, took your advice (and experiences) in hand, and had a great night out :-) Some of the most satisfying results I've had doing street photography (my experience was so similar to yours)! Please keep sharing your personal experiences as a photographer. There is enough technical info out there. There is a lack of "experience" that needs to be met and you do it well :-)

You don’t need to show a massive amount of your photos to tell us what you think because you educate us with your ideas on the theoretical frameworks of photography! It’s where we begin embarking on a journey to think differently by applying the theories you told us. I’m sorry for replying to this a year after and I regret leaving this comment a year after because I have just noticed your channel only a week ago. But I truly love the educational perspective you gave me through a theoretical basis. Nice comment read outs, Jamie. Always good for a laugh. As we all know, art is subjective and therefore everybody must understand that my shots of my cat where I forgot to remove the lens cap, are in fact Art. They depict the mysterious ways of cats, the difficult to access nature of their ways. I tend to think that comments on the web are a great reflector of today's dwindling level of education. Your videos are always enjoyable and thoughtful insights into a subject which still requires skills and lots of practice before a photographer can see good results. That comment was so true though. When you look back and realise your old photos were bad (as the creator so you know what you were aiming to get and why) it is a good thing to see your progression. Yes art is subjective but the difference between good and bad art that breaks rules is the intent and knowledge of long time artists vs the misunderstanding of a new.

Jamie -- I enjoy all of your videos, even if I don't always agree. In my view KZbin is a forum -- no guarantee of 100% objectivity, so you post what you think and what you feel and what you believe -- it does not have to please everyone, just you. Thank you for doing that! It's a shame that viewers who do not agree can be so nasty and cruel in some of their comments -- but again, it's their view, their opinion. Keep posting! Keep talking!

I used to watch Peter Mckinon before, but then I found your channel and stoped watching Peters since I never learned anything from it. Every video you post is very interesting and there is always something that I can learn from Dont stop posting! Cheers from Norway

Thank you very much. May I say that the pug/dog/santa/elf sets a full stop most elegantly -- if not, strictly speaking, beautifully -- to a gracious and elegant video. May you have a very merry Christmas!

Jamie, this video popped up on my home page. I remember when you did it a couple years ago. Maybe it’s time for another one. I still love your blue eyes and hope you and your family are well.

I just want to thank YOU so so so much for your videos. Your video is so inspirational, educational, informative, entertaining, highly recommended. I learned so much by watching your videos. I learned from Peter McKinnon too but I like your style and approach. I have been doing photography for only 8 months and I looked at my previous photos and closed my eyes cuz they were crap but like you said, this means I am growing, which is a good thing. Thank you. And please keep doing whatever you are doing!

Great video's and appreciate that you go deeper than talk about the technical side of photography, your video on the ethics of street photography was particularly good. Thank you! There will always be those who simply cannot get this and instead of simply scrolling by, have to be offensive. Please keep doing what you do, it is much appreciated

I really like your videos especially for the philosophic point of view. Please continue with this, there is a tons of tutorial videos and your subscribes don't need something like that! Those haters can watch those tutorials, don't they? Thank you, you inspire me a lot. All the best in 2019 from Czech Republic!
