You know what's the worst part about kpop stans coming at idols wearing "black hairstyles"? The fact that they don't have the same energy for everyone. When Lisa, Chenle, Yuto (pentagon) and more had this type of hairstyles, people were making coments for like few days and it got brushed off, but when Chan did it they "canceled" him and to this day there's insane amount of hate comments/tweets. We ALL appropriate another culture in someway, somehow because we live in a global society. Folks weren't mad because of people wearing braids. It became disrespectful when the media started given credit for the popularity of braids like cornrows to certain celebrities and renaming them to boxer braids. First, I like what you said about cultural appropriation, as one from the community that typically takes offense to the stylistic choice to wear hair like this. From an outsider, not in the community, though, I do agree that there are more important areas to focus on. I read the news too, about the shootings and whatnot, so I just really like your commentary on the issue. The thing I find most interesting about the issue with the braids is the inequality towards idols on when fans freak out and whatnot. I've read NOTHING about Chenle's hair or any of the YG artists who've done it. But I remember when my man Chan did it for his performance of Zone a few months ago and how many 'fans' canceled him and demanded apologies. I just think, if the issue is going to be brought up, it needs to be consistent? If that makes sense.
