The man on the Blue Jackets helmet is Major General William Sherman of the Union Army in the American Civil War. He is best known for “Sherman’s March to the Sea.” It was a force March of the Union Army from Atlanta Georgia to Savanna Georgia on the Atlantic coast. It’s purpose was to destroy confederate factories and suppliers and to scare locals in support of the confederacy. The original Atlanta Flames NHL team got their name from when Sherman and his troops nearly burned the entire city down. I’m a bit of civil war buff lol!

Canes one as is could work if it has the checkerboard stripe over the top (couldn't tell from angle in video). I do think the black might work better here. That said, if it went black, I think going with the large warning flag logo would look better ala Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Top 5 in no particular order: Arizona, loved the merger of the 2 logos and incorporating the kachina pattern as well Seattle, another great merger of the 2 logos and ensured the "S" wrapped around was a great choice also the splash or red brings some color but does not detract from the design Colorado, loved the choice the separate the 2 colors with the white snow cap mountain stripe San Jose, the gradient style don't normally look good but with the Sharks it is a must...clean and simple Otawa, speaking of clean the white helmet design was the right choice and really provided a clean helmet design. The misses are the following: New Jersey & Washington, conceptually great designs but for practicality they would not work on the field. I know they would never exist, but I look at these concepts and would these actually work and for me no. Florida, the merger of the 2 logos did not work in this case. I would have used the current panther head and gone from there. Detroit, not sure where this design was going, but adding the additional wings to the logo was too much in my book. Philadelphia, once the rotary phone was mentioned, I too could not unsee it. I would have left the Liberty Bell off the side and maybe add it to the back like the Chicago alternate logo.

The Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal helmets look more like CFL helmets. Actually the Sens helmet isn't that far off what the Redblacks have worn.

In regard to the Washington helmet: The flag should be reversed to give the impression of it moving forward. Refer to a military uniform where the flag appears backwards to symbolize forward movement. Just my opinion.

Boston Bruins would be number 2. New Rangers would be number 1. Bottom 6 -- Columbus Blue Jackets would be number 32. Chicago Black Hawks would be number 31. Detroit Red Wings would be number 30. I would have rather seen a helmet for Tampa with one of their current logo/ color combinations. Imagine black helmet with gray alternate logo on sides then a lightning bolt for a center stripe!
