I actually prefer Tarja here on Nemo much more. Very magical, atmosphetic. Feel like your on a boat just sailing off into the horizon on a journey. The band was so magical in the Hartwell arena for this concert. But then, i got into NW in 2003 with Tarja. Her operatic/soprano style vocals were what attracted me. But i love both women. Floor and Tarja.

I think there are some songs in NW that are better with the original singer. Some Tarja songs are not for Floor. No offence to her skills of course but Nemo is for Tarja same with Sleeping Sun. This something I noticed with Story time too and I saw many comments in Reddit about it too. Floors version is harsher and doesn't have the creepiness' that Annette brings to the song.

This is THE song that got me hooked on Nightwish, when the single was released in 2004, my friend showed me the music video on the music channel Kerrang! and that was it. I went home and listened to the album 'Once' over and over and over again, that then made me dive more deeply into their discography and the rest is history. While I do adore Floor's take on this song too, I do happen to prefer Tarja's darker operatic tone, just because of the nostalgia it brings for me and being that brand new fan discovering what was to become my absolute favourite band, ever.

When I think Nightwish, this is the song I think of first. I love Floor on a lot of songs, including several of Tarja era songs. But there's something special about Tarja singing this that is just perfect to me. And oddly, some of my favorite live performances of Annette are her stripped down versions of this song. They were just interesting. But for me, nothing comes close to Tarja singing this.

I always wonder what was going through their minds during this show. Tarja was dismissed immediately after it. Like, less than an hour after this song was performed, she was out. They all look like the same "family" as they always do, but everyone other than Tarja knows what is going to happen after the show.

Which is why they had to give this show their all - to give Tarja the send-off she was going to have. To give her - at least in the eyes of the fans - that last unforgettable farewell performance. Think about it this way: It was the opposite of what 90s bands like Oasis did, with the Gallagher brothers absolutely hating each other to where the band performed, but one bother didn't want to be on stage with the other that he just sat in his own box seat, which was a downer for their fans.

Well, I got my answer once I got home from the venue. The entire Finnish news media was all over it! Great Review. Always love how you catch things. This song is from the End of an Era DVD, the last concert on that tour and filmed in 2005. This is also the night that they gave Tarja the letter. If you watch the whole DVD, you can catch little things as the concert winds down. Brief pause, Emotion or looks to Tarja. The band knew what would be soon happening, and you can see the pain/emotion. Rock On!!

I love all three vocalists for different songs. Some they all song well but I do have a special place for Tarja singing Nemo. This and the Siren are very Tarja songs. As for 'Annette' songs. Scaretale and Ghost River really exploit her ability to slide and twist her notes that Floor and Tarja don't really do. So seeing how you've done GR my vote is for scaretale.

Re: being comfortable and that having an effect on the music - I know just what you mean. Many (many) years ago, I played in a ceilidh band at weddings and birthdays and so on. You could feel the difference that the audience made: if they just wanted to sit down and drink, it was a real struggle to play and everything felt flat (as in dull, not ♭), but if they were up and dancing, it was an absolute joy and the music sounded great.

Chase, you and I started down the Nightwish rabbit-hole at about the same time. I started there from collaborations with other bands I was listening to - Tarja with Within Temptation on "Paradise" and Marco with Delain on "The Gathering" (both worth a look...). This summer, maybe 90% of the music I've listened to or watched has been Nightwish, and it's been great to have such a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide as yourself! Can't wait to see them live some time soon(ish). Hope you'll get the chance to react to "Alpenglow" (from Wembley) soon - it's a real feel-good song, as Floor herself says in her intro. "Nemo" is probably my favourite Tarja song (along with Sleeping Sun) but you should also look at the live and acoustic versions with Floor. Not necessarily better, just different. And please keep these reactions coming - they're a highlight of my Saturday mornings!

The best thing about this song is the way it keeps evolving. I swear every live performance they put out is better than the last. Watch the Wacken 2013 version, then the 2015 versions (Wembley and Buenos Aires), then the 2018 Buenos Aires version to catch all the little differences and the embellishments Floor keeps adding to the ending. And don’t forget the Planet Rock acoustic version by Floor and Troy earlier this year.

It sounds like a "song song" rather than a composition because Tuomas was intentionally trying to write a radio-friendly song. He said it was one of the hardest things he had to do because that's just not how he writes, but I guess he must have been pressured by the label. Still, he managed to come up with a great song that in fact opened a lot of doors for them.

Rosannasfriend I’m sorry. It appears you don’t like the fact that I and maybe the other two that responded here have preferences and chose to voice them. I suspect that for many there will never be a thread or forum that is comfortable or willing to make room for this difference of preference. Surely there are some who have made comments to objectively claim superiority about one singer or another that leave no room for individual taste. I reject those statements as Art is more than technical prowess. For me and many, we listen to and enjoy the songs from one era or another and yet also find, and want to express, that in yet another era songs have found new life and reinvigorated what caused us to fall in love with NW in the first place.

Fun fact: Floor did this acoustic in her 11th gig fronting NW at Orlando 2012. She also sang this with Troy in the same session that acoustic "How's the Heart". And this is quite different at Wacken 2013 with Troy doing his thing.

Nemo was the first song I heard from Nightwish. They had a performance on a TV show and I thought the combination of Tarja's voice and the metal music was brilliant. I bought the album "Once" the same day and after listening to it once 🙃, I ordered everything else Nightwish had released until then. And since then I love this band more than any other. This song was the thing back in the days. Here in Germany it unexpectedly made it's way into television. I've been to an indoor concert and there even were a lot of elders in the seated ranks. My dad then said about me: "A few years ago he said Nightwish is the thing and now they are number one." ~ The album ranked number one in the german charts, got tripple gold and remained in the charts for 39 weeks.
