Thanks for another great vid! I haven’t read many of these but I love Gatsby, the second time I read it, that is, as an adult & long after I had to read it in high school (you were very kind to the reviewers that hated books bc they had to read them in English class 😊). Really want to read Piranesi. I’m reading Clarke’s first book, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell & loving it!! 😊 Thanks again!!

Thanks for watching! How we teach literature in schools is a bit of a pet peeve of mine: it was a huge part of my dissertation topic back at uni.

I feel tiktok,and bookstagram overhype books which makes people curious and they then buy those books to see the hype but when the book doesn't meet the expectations they get disappointed. I, myself have faced similar issues so now i only rely on my favourite booktubers and I've also discovered my interest,and favourite authors so that i won't get into these traps .

I will admit I use all of the social media to discover more books and sometimes I actually discover books that turn out to be gems, but I wouldn't have picked up otherwise. I do try to shy away from the hypes though...yes I did read Fourth Wing for example, but after that, I never picked up the second installment in the series and I don't think I will soon. And yes, I agree, KZbin is a great source, because people actually give more detailed opinions due to the longer content.

I'm also one of those people who can't stand The Great Gatsby. I did it in school, but I've always thought the writing was pretentious😭 However, I know I'm in the minority because pretty much everyone I talk to about it LOVES it😄

Like I said: I don’t think school is the right age to read books like that. Let young people read what they love to read!

Considering when the time when the secret history was written it is a new generation of kids reading it, so it could be that it's more of a generational thing than it being a bad book.

I would actually haunt an author I LIKED because then I could keep reading their work and see where things go from start to finish. book to my worst enemy? It's a tie between "The Sadist's Bible" for the excessive beyond all measure body and sexual horror (which yes I expected gritty with the title but... the premise sounded it would be extreme but potentially interesting if done 'right'... did not sign up for such insane gore) or the worst reading experience Moonstone: The Boy who Never Was . Let me put it this way. The audiobook is just over two hours. I listen at accelerated speed. It took me at least five to finish it because I had to stop to live rant at someone, and go back a few times to make sure I had, in fact, understood the mess that just went in my ears correctly. If it weren't for reading challenges/time crunches to complete those I would have chucked both. I am not someone who DNFs. Also you have a great sense of humor and took these comments really well.

@@cafeaulivre I think i was as much mad as anything else as the first sounded like it could have been a critique on extremist religious interpretations/sympathy for devil sort of philosophy in the heart of it which can be thought provoking if not just crass. The later I thought I was going to get lgbt/Icelandic untold history perspective from a historical bent on the Spanish flu epidemic there... i felt cheated and lied to.

It depends on the reading taste of my enemy which book I would recommend 🙃 I would study what they don't like and then give them a book with all of these aspects in it😈

Neverwhere was thenfirst book by Neil i read, was in high school. I binge read it. In the same vain as Circe, id love to see a retelling of Medea.

I’d love to see a good retelling around Hera, the wife who was cheated on but got her revenge, how it affected her as a mother, as a woman, …

@@cafeaulivre I have always loved Hera. Didn't always agree with some of her decisions (like punishing others for her brother/husband's trickery and decisions), but in general I like her. She's a very complex character who's loving and caring side gets overshadowed by her cruel jealous side. So I agree, she would make for an excellent retelling. You could really explore other sides of personality.
