This is a shining example of the way a father ought to react under circumstances like these - what a thoughtful, supportive, decent man your dad is! Congratulations on three years of being totally yourselves.

Your dad is an amazing person, I'm so jealous, I don't think I'll ever come out to mine, he would never accept it. That's why I love watching videos of people coming out to their parents/family, I'm glad other people can do it and live their life happily.

I was 65, just retiring and watching You Tube for the first time on my smart TV I had just bought . I was deep in the closet, too scared to ever come out. That coming out video showed up on the screen as one of several different videos to watch . I did not want to watch it because I expected a negative reaction from the father, ( being deep in the closet does that to you ). Finally I decided to play the video, and was as scared as Aaron and Austin. But for the first time I witnessed a father show true love for his gay sons. His reaction made me watch so many more coming out videos, ( not all positive ). But Aaron and Austin 's courage at such a young age, and the way their father handled it told me it was time to come out and not die with my secret. I came out a few weeks later and shocked many who thought they knew me, but there was no negative reaction. My, how things have changed in 50 years. Back then I would have been forced to see a shrink. So a big thank you to the Rhodes Bros and all today's youth that are born gay and not hiding it for getting the unhappiness that was inside me to finally go away after 55 years.

This empowers and motivates and inspires people to change; A little acceptance from one person spreads on other to see the other side of a person. People like your father is a person that is aware of this to others maby not. You guys rock keep making these videos.

@fasjacobsen65696 жыл бұрын
Very Good, guys. You two are very brave to share this experience with us because, although there are people who think that it is necessary or not to come out, you did it, and in a public way, through a digital platform, whose exposition is much more difficult. That makes you both, people of great value. Shared experiences can help others overcome moments of anguish and indecision, especially when they are judged for who they are and for what they feel. The emotion of Aaron in the end, when he talks about the relationship with his father, was adorable and very mature. We can see how much you have grown. Hugs and congratulations.

Thank you for that. Having recently subscribed to your channel, I’ve only just watched the 3-year anniversary video and I have to say that I am truly touched by the openness that shines through : communication, emotion, love. Even if it doesn’t necessarily happen that way for everyone, what you’ve shared with your followers has to have inspired many people, or at the very least, made them happy for you (I know I am). As an aside: it is so cool that your dad has the same first name as mine ;)

Also, there is hope to yet being a father just like your dad. I was in a relationship with a man that had a son. The relationship lasted only a year. Wow, I wish my parents reacted like this when I came out to them. Instead, my dad told me he will never accept it and always fight me on it and he now always tells me how he’s concerned for me. My mom and step dad didn’t like it that much either but they know it’s my life and they said they’ll still love me no matter what. My stepmom hasn’t said much on her own because my dad is just too vocal about it. I already didn’t have the best relationship with my dad in the first place but his opposition to me being who I am only makes it worse, and he expects me to pretend like everything is fine. I’m so jealous of people whose parents accept them for who they are because I had such a tough time with it. My friends are so great about it though which helps me cope!

I had not seen the original post 3 years ago, so when I saw this post, I stopped watching it immediately and found the original video and a video of your appearance on Ellen. I watched the original video, choked up at your fear and your dad's response of unconditional love. I surprised myself getting choked up and walked away from KZbin. And then I cried for two full hours. I dont know you two. I had never seen one of your videos before. I did not know of the story. But I cried until my eyes turned red and irrated and my nose stopped pouring out the mucous. Crazy, right? You two hit on a universal fear all boys/men. We are afraid of our dads not loving us anymore because we somehow disappointed or angered them. My tears were not for the two of you. Thet were tears I never cried when I disappointed mother and dad (not dealing with sexuality) and they did not respond with the unconditional love your dad gave you. You are two very, very fortunate men. Your dad taught you one way how to love unconditionally with his response. I hope your dad's lesson has taught you to pass that same unconditional love on to the people in your lives.

Beyoncé Beyoncé I think you'll be fine. My dad is a proud Mexican man and my mom is old fashioned, she doesn't believe homosexuals should have a lot of the same rights as straight people, but even tho some parents are like this, sometimes they feel that way about everyone else but their child. And then in time they become more accepting when they see you can be happy. That was a big thing with my mom. She thought gay men couldn't be happy because of the promiscuity and all the hate out there. When it comes to anyone who thinks this way sometimes it's just cuz of ignorance, and they don't have someone in their life who can show them different. Maybe you coming out is exactly what they need. On another note, this may sound cruel, but if they don't accept you, you don't need them. Sometimes you have to put yourself first and you shouldn't deny yourself happiness. Go get your prince.
