I agree. if you look at people like zer0 and Napom they just basically freestyle their beats but showcase their skill, and sometimes get highly ranked eliminations because of that. even colaps can be pretty loose with his structure

8:45 probably the most important advice Remix can take, its really been something that i have been noticing asw, and dan said it perfectly, doing what the heart tells you to do
@Glenchx28 күн бұрын
Apparently the DKoy elimination was totally improvised. Stitch said in his DKoy elimination reaction that he went to dinner with DKoy after and DKoy said he totally improvised his set. Maybe that’s a small part of why dlow is naming that set as a standout.
@btktbeatbox658124 күн бұрын
i think he just overhyped it was a very boring elimination just spamming the same sound different

I’m assuming what D-Low means is that pandering to fit the scorecard actually limits the amount of “points” you can gain from this, whereas just doing whatever your heart tells you to do might actually get you more points even if it doesn’t necessarily fit the criteria of a scorecard - like D-Koy’s elimination
@niku184028 күн бұрын
pretty sure he's speaking beyond the scorecard as well - beatboxers are artists first and foremost and they should just express themselves how they want to. the scorecard, time limit etc will limit that. i think it's a big reason why dlow stopped battling and is just doing his music stuff rn
@Giga_amv28 күн бұрын
Its not just for the points, have you noticed in early remix's videos even though he didn't have a nice structure but his originality is what made him different but now it just looks like he is trying too hard to confine himself and shape into the rules and structures even though he is using the his own sounds he is not doing his own stuff

Im no expert but as a fan I completely agree, and I kind of feel validated now. In my viewing experience a lot of beatboxers at the moment seem to want to do the whole Codfish or Den thing, with the singing, the drop and the overall memorable pop melody song, and with a lot of people despite them being fans of that approach, aren't that and it shows to me. Remix when he just does his own thing is far superior to this, and should just do him, rather than almost trying to mimic the people he respects or the elements to beatbox he is into. As it kind of sounds like a heavy metal band trying to do a clean melodic pop song.

Remix's bass-heavy style would lend itself to freestyle domination because his bass is a strong foundation for reiterative additions, as in doing a melody, doing the melody with bass, and then introducing changes to either or both. Freestyles would also allow him to dodge repetitiveness if the crowd notices.
@blengblong0171228 күн бұрын
Creativity is Remix's biggest weakness. He has a lot of potential but can't use it properly. If you guys want, you can check out Karma of Skullcrusher. Like Remix, he can also copy many special sounds (Spot on for Ice's style, watch his vid on The Quiva Beatbox titled "Abo Ice | Glitch")
@ayin973828 күн бұрын
So he is creative, he lacks the composition and musical knowledge to create a compatible structure.

Dlow and him should hang out. It really helps to be around like-minded people. Remix has the skill sets and drive. Together with some good focus would lead to very good things for the beatbox community

I wouldn’t say creativity, it’s more of a lack of music background prior to beatboxing. Take a few week jazz course, learn phrasing and how music is a conversation and boom he’s good

Remix live streams are some of the best dyanmics combined with bass Ive heard, its insane. Its all freestyle too for the most part. If he walked on stage and just went off with a loose structure basis he would smoke everyone.
@ruvimperna553211 күн бұрын
The structure is not the only answer / or pathway of going about your music or artistry. Everyone feels different inside so what you make will be unique to your own self. If you're inspired and borrow something or make it better, that's fine as long as it fits you and your passionate creative style. But full on copying someone will always sound off and we all do our fair share of mimicking for learning, but we are all different inside way deep in our core, and will always have a different unique output. That being said, not everyone excels at a "structure". Imagine you start with a rehearsed drop, freestyle a break unto another rehearsed drop and then a freestyle of an outro. Some peeps are just better at freestyle and this would be bangin with a crowd and to just be loose and fun :)

8:45. I think considering this, the way I'd probably word it is that Remix's best sense of crown control is within his improvisation. He has one of the most versatile sound palettes out there, one which largely consists of powerful, loud, crowd pleasing sounds, and he has an amazing ability to control those sounds on command. I think his best approach, in my opinion is...pick a general BPM > pick a timing > pick a genre > perform whatever comes to heart and mind.

Articulation aside, the message that you are trying convey is definitely being heard, & quite the message that is. To have room for both creative improvisation & structure is arguably very important in a competitive/entertaining environment, & a lot of people struggle to integrate that. Otherwise (to name a few reasons) you either come off as too stiff/rigid with your performance, or underprepared & your execution becomes lack luster/underwhelming. It's a balance that you've come to recognize as a Beatboxer & individual within your beatbox/life journey. You continue to impress me as time goes on, as a beatboxer & individual. Not to glaze you too much, but I hope you can continue to grow, as you're quite a remarkable person.

Dan, I don't exactly subscribe to the template criticism. Its relative. For someone like Remix who has only a few stage performances, the main reason he is doing so well this year is because he's practiced and honed a few bangers. Others who have templates that did remarkably well: Codfish, Tomaz, and KI. As he gets more recognition and confidence he'll switch to modular components (snippits that he strings together) like napom. Complete freestyle will come but I think for where he is at, it would hold him back to freestyle too much right now.
