Hey Miss Brandy 💖💜💙 Yeah, I don't know some of the singing/ musical technical terms either 😉 "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons" has a bit of a conflict as to who really wrote the song. The credits listed by The Leeds Publishing Company (a music publishing company) names Ivory "Deek" Watson (former second tenor of The Ink Spots) as the lyricist and William "Pat" Best as the composer of the song. So Ivory "Deek" Watson left The Ink Spots and formed his own vocal group called The Brown Dots. After his original baritone singer left (unknown/ unnamed/ not listed), guitarist and baritone singer William "Pat" Best was the chosen replacement. According to Mr. Best, Ivory "Deek" Watson had had nothing to do with the writing of the song. However, Mr. Watson maintained in his late 1960's biography that he and Mr. Best wrote the song together. Regardless of who really wrote it, "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons" was published in 1945 and first recorded by The Brown Spots with Joe King singing lead. William "Pat" Best went on to form his own vocal group later on called The Four Tunes. As for Sam Cooke's death (YT being what it is I hesitate to use the 'M' word here): If you want I can send you some links per your request so you can dig into that yourself and draw your own conclusions. Sam Cooke had other hits such as Bring It On Home To Me, A Change Is Gonna Come, You Send Me and Cupid to name a few. He was killed under bizarre circumstances at age 33. Some say he was threatened by the music industry for trying to create a black owned group who could better represent black entertainers.
