In the first version of the fairy tale there was no bad step mother. The real mother was the evil one and envious of Snow White. But after a few centuries the story changed into the evil step mother because it felt to weird that a mother would wish her daughters death.

I do like this movie a lot but I like the sequal better for many reasons but any way. I think they all played the parts well and I love Ravenna's dark Fey powers it's an amazing effect and also interesting power as well. Kristian in my opinion is a good actress but ya the script didn't give her much to work with. Ravenna's past is that her mother was a witch and because of that the king came to kill her and took the then young teenager Ravenna and her brother to the castle where they grew up and eventually she got her revenge on the king for killing her mother. Also the three drops thing is that her mother granted her immortality before she was killed and only a kind hearted person could undo the spell and there for kill her. The second one goes a bit more into Ravenna's past so that might get your interest though Snow White herself isn't there cause the sequal is it's own story with background on Eric and his wife Sara as well.

Not my favorite film but enjoyable nonetheless and easily Charlize Theron was such a perfect choice playing the villainous Evil Queen in this movie. The interesting thing is that the producer of this movie was the same producer who produced the 2010 _Alice In Wonderland_ and _Maleficent_ for Disney and the director of this film also would later direct the 2017 _Ghost in the Shell_ film Starring Scarlett Johansson and will direct the upcoming remake of _The Crow_ Finally, as it’s now December, you think you, Nobu and the girls (Hailey and Stella) might do some Christmas movie reactions on the channel sometime this month after you react to _Huntsman: Winter’s War_ next week (unless it’s more fantasy based movies)🎄 Granted, I don’t know if it will happen considering your personal and reaction schedules as the movies your reacting are done a week to two weeks ahead before their upload, but I really would like to see the four of you you balance your movie reactions schedules and not skip out on reacting to certain movies depending on the month since I was disappointed you guys didn’t reacted to *ANY* Halloween or Horror films in the month of October this year, as you’ve been reacting to the Science Fiction films every Thursday for 7-8 months (The end of February to October 2023). There are some weird trope inversions in this film that I kinda like. The scene with the troll always stood out to me due to A. Its cool monster design, and B. The fact that the protagonists actually let it live and go free at the end of their fight. I felt that that was probably one of the best instances of making the concept of Snow White into something more “serious” while also sticking to the roots and themes of the story. Most cool fantasy creatures are often fodder in films to represent the physical strength of the protagonists, so having it be alive instead of dead at the end of the sequence was rather charming to me.
@secretlyadragon472311 ай бұрын
I remember when this first came out. People weren't even concerned with Kristen and Hemsworth. It was all about Theron baby! People were blown away by her evil queen. It was so different than roles she had done before. Early 2010s was the era of putting famous actors and actresses in live action fairytale movies. So you had the Once Upon A Time series the year before that, Mirror Mirror with Julia Roberts playing the evil queen the same year this movie came out, I think 2012. Then Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters coming out the next year and then Maleficent with Jolie came out in 2014. There was also a movie called The Brothers Grimm with Monica Bellucci playing the evil witch but I'm not sure when that came out. It was just an era of popular actresses playing evil queens/witches and Theron did the thing justice. I feel that's why the next movie was so heavily based on her and her sister because the producers were like, they liked her performance, let's stick with her storyline. I mean that and the fact that Kristen left the franchise because of some scandalous stuff but that's all in the past. The next movie, Winter's War is really good too.

Saw this in the movies and I really, dearly love it for various autobiographic reasons. Something easily overlooked is that Snow White nicked herself with this dagger in the dark woods when she first met the huntsman. So it had her blood on it, and only this is why the dagger killed Ravenna.

I like this movie. But there is one thing i don't understand. Only a kiss of true love breaks the curse. It was the huntsman who woke up Snow White, but she ended up with William. Wasn't the hunter her true love? 😕💔
@oliviarogers2808 Жыл бұрын
When in the movie did they say that? In the Disney film it wasn't true love's kiss, it was love's FIRST kiss. In Frozen it was an "act of true love" and it wasn't even romantic love. We have no idea what the rules of this world's magic are. They don't tell us. Here's my theory: Even before Winter's War came out, I interpreted Snow and Eric's relationship differently than most. I didn't view their relationship as a true romance cause Eric clearly still loved his wife and wasn't ready to move on quite yet. "Then why did his kiss wake her up?" Because when he was talking about his wife over Snow's body, he said "you remind me of her, her heart, her spirit." I think Snow's influence on him reignited emotions in him that he hadn't felt for a long time (the entire theme of Winter's War was about loving when you're trained never to love). I think it's that influx of romantic love for his wife and protective love for Snow that managed to override the spell. He could have been IN love with Snow a little too, but relationship-wise he wasn't ready. It's like how Captain America in the MCU had amazing chemistry with Black Widow (and Sharon Carter) but he never truly got over Peggy. I had no issue with Snow marrying William, I think he was better suited for her anyway. Eric clearly admired her and I think that's a good summary of their feelings for one another. I think Snow realized that and figured William was a better co-ruler for her. I saw this other theory online somewhere and I can't stop thinking about it. Maybe it was more than a kiss from Eric that woke her from her sleeping death. When William kisses Snow White, a tear fall from one of her eyes. Then Eric kisses her and a second tear falls from her other eye. Perhaps the spell is broken by the love of two men she treasures. Now that's just a theory (a film theor-... okay I'll stop), but definitely a nice catch and something to think about.

Snow White’s line “You can’t have my heart” does sound a bit redundant and clunky upon first viewing, but with some analysis it actually has a role to play in expressing her character development. She isn’t saying it to Ravenna as a person but to the darkness that Ravenna’s character represents. The triumph of good/light over evil/dark is apparent not only in the characterization of the two sides fighting one another, but in the fact that Snow White’s attempt to attack and kill, after Ravenna taunted her and put it in her head that she was there to avenge her father, failed, because it was about vengeance. Whereas, Snow White was successful in killing Ravenna after seeing her men be killed by the Glass Shard Soldiers, because she was trying to save the living rather than gain vengeance on behalf of the dead. The end of the fight is her realizing that crucial difference, and denying any sort of darkness a claim on her heart - which would have been awesome if understanding it didn’t require you to think so much about it.

So many cool ideas are thrown in and then forgotten and unexplored. The script didn’t know how to incorporate all of the old and new elements into the adaption but kept everything in anyway. I prefer the sequel because it left this need to include and work around the familiar parts and instead used them to build a new story.

@@whitenoisereacts I was afraid you would say that, however there are some Christmas movies that you, Nobu, Hailey and Stella can still watch and react to this month regardless of your response such as _Spirited_ starring Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds, _A Boy Called Christmas,_ and the 2009 and 1984 Adaptations of _A Christmas Carol_ mainly the latter as it features George C. Scott as Scrooge, plus _Mickey’s Christmas Carol,_ the 2018 Grinch film and the 1966 Grinch TV special, and _A Peanuts Christmas_ are also good Christmas animated properties to watch for the Animator Reacts.🎄🎄 So at least give those Christmas movies a watch if you haven’t James, considering I was disappointed you guys didn’t reacted to *ANY* Halloween or Horror-themed films in the month of October 2023, as you’ve been too focused on reacting to the Science Fiction films every Thursday for 7-8 months (The end of February to October 2023).

I am not a SnowWhite fan, at all. I hate everything about SnowWhite in fact. BUT I enjoy this movie, mostly because of the gothic horror element. Winter's War imo is better because there is no SnowWhite lol As to your question at the beginning about the original story - there is indeed a lot more to it. The Queen actually made two other attempts on Snow's life. First, she dressed as a tailor and tried to choke her with a corset. Second, she was a traveling merchant and stuck a razor-sharp comb into her skull. And then finally, we have the old woman guise and the apple. Each time, the dwarves warned Snow not to talk to anyone, but the dolt still did. Like seriously... Also, there was no spell or true love's kiss in the original story. When the Prince found her, he brought her back to his Castle, casket and all, and it fell off the cart. The jolt made her spit out the piece of apple lodged in her throat so she woke up. And then finally, the death of the Queen - she was invited to the wedding and was made to dance wearing hot forged shoes until her feet literally burned away and she died from the pain.

I like the visuals and aesthetic of this movie and it should be credited for trying something new but still mostly following the original story. Kristen Stewart didn't get to do much here but after this movie and Twilight ended, she evolved into a better career path of acclaimed movies. Who would've thought she would get Oscar nominated for playing Princess Diana in the movie Spencer. You guys should check out Spencer or her other movies that play to her strengths like The Runaways where she also played Joan Jett, Adventureland, Certain Women, Still Alice and Happiest Season.

I wished I had seen Spencer only for Kristen Stewart great performance.

She poisoned King, then stabbed him. But she "enchanted the King" so a bit of magic is involved.

Some other interesting takes on Snow White are : “snow white: a tale of terror” 1997, “Snow White: fairest of them all” 2001, “Grimm’s Snow White” 2012, “mirror mirror” 2012. I think my favorites of those are the other movies done in 2012.

I once saw an interesting version as a child. We watched it in primary school as a whole class. It was called Snow White and the Secret of the Dwarfs, it may have been of East European making (I don't know). I was impressed by how the depected the dwarfs. They were ot goofy or fierce warriors, they were strong and wise and felt infakt like old earth spirits (even though they were mortal). One of the dwarfs becomes a traitor and dies which was pretty gloomy too. But what I like most about it was the unusual take on the prince. He was someone she already knew in a different from: He was the jester of the court who tranformed into a chavalrous version of himself.

I notice that the Girls (Hailey & Stella) haven’t uploaded a new reaction for two weeks following their reaction to _A Beautiful Mind._ Is everything alright on the reaction side of things because their Stand By Me reaction was set to be uploaded last week but the fact that it hasn’t happened means it’s dealing with copyright issues or being delayed indefinitely and be released two months later like what happened to their _Dune_ reaction so hopefully you get this situation fixed.
