It's really a miracle this one of the most skilled vocalist of all time could be in such poor condition. And definitely she is much more than great technician and has Perfect Control of Her Gift...and Her singing is so special. So Being a Cancer survivor And still gets sick from Time to time. But is an Amazing Artist who gave up a Kpop career to sing for the Lord and for the Love of Music instead of stardom. She learned English as a Child from Disney Movies, which inspired her to Write two of her Books...(both Published and there are more). Also And Publicly thanks Mariah Carey for teaching her everything she Knows about Music ... that is some Testament to The Power of Music AS FANS AND ADMIRERS WE PRAY FOR HER CONTINUED IMPROVEMENTS IN HER HEALTH

Sohyang is awesome singing with just a guitar and piano or cello for accompaniment as in her "Begin Again Korea" concerts this past year. "I Have Nothing" is a good start, "Misty" is spell binding even without powerful or extremely high notes and she has at least 10 other stunning performances in these concerts.

Thank you for your wonderful reaction. I believe you just felt the typical Korean sentiment embodied in this performance. We Koreans call it 'Han'. The 'Han' is the sublimated compound of emotions such as sorrow, distress, togetherness, etc. When we feel this emotion, we sometimes laugh, strangely enough, with tears. The laughter and tears are not out of sheer delight nor out of sheer misery. It's hard to explain but one thing is for sure. When we feel and share the emotion, it binds us together and gives us some support and comfort. Maybe now you can see why she showed the mixed emotions on her face in the last part. By sharing this feeling of 'Han', she is trying to empathize with the audience, and provide comfort and new hope for them. That's why I'm touched whenever I watch this performance :) Anyway thank you for reacting to Sohyang and see you on the next reaction video~.

You might like some background on this song. Arirang Alone is a cultural song based on a 600 year old folk song. This is why Sohyang is wearing a hanbok, traditional Korean clothes. The song is about the longing for the North and South to be one. That the island of Dakdo is singing Arirang floating in the East Sea and that boats from the North and South could meet there. The songwriter’s parents had to leave two sons and a daughter in North Korea during the war. His father’s dying wish to him was “when Korea reunites, go find your older brothers and sister and tell them that their parents did not abandoned them”. Once you understand what the song is about, you can see why its so emotional. Where everyone in the audience sings along is where Sohyang brought in the original Arirang lyrics and melody. You are not the only one who has teared up at that point.

She has tangible, measurable supreme technical skills that floored vocal pedagogy experts and enthusiasts alike, and then there's the intangible and inexplainable ways she makes people just "feel" her performance. That's why for me, she is the culmination of both objective and subjective in one. Not to mention she's practically like a saint compared to many other artists in the industry, no offense intended for them or downplaying challenges facing everyday mortals ofc. Great video! Listening to Sohyang brings a brand new experience even if you have heard her before. This is a Korean folk song that Sohyang rearranged for this magical performance and the audience was moved to sing along with her for a good reason. Your comment about a sense of community is very much on target as the song speaks for the longing of unification of Korea. I shed my share of tears listening to this performance on more than one occasion, even though I am not a Korean. Sohyang's magic can transcend the language and nationality. Wonderful to see your reaction to Sohyang again.

Beautiful reaction, listening to the previous videos you got a sense of her but this song is one in which you get a feel for her full power. I think her performances of "Lean on me" and "I have Nothing" give you a similar view of her range but another MV of her doing "Love Poems" or "I'll come to you like the first fallen snow" will keep you in awe!

Not sure how people perceive those 6th octave head/falsetto notes. You can either frame it as "she can hit the 6th octave" without thinning out the note into a whistle or "she can't hit a 6th octave whistle" which is honestly to me makes no sense. I would say there are less power vocalists that can hit notes typically whistles without zipping up the cords almost completely. 5:20
