Hayden Christensen didn't get enough credit as Anakin. George Lucas, the creator himself said the he played Anakin perfectly. He was upset people didn't respond well to Hayden, because he genuinely felt that meant people just didn't like Anakin as a character.
@luitjenapol2815

Oh please, the main criticism was directed toward Hayden’s performance. His limited acting range and thin, simplistic emotional interpretation. Natalie Portman and others were acting circles around him. He was cast because of his heartthrob popularity at the time not because he’s a versatile actor. The critiques still stand.

@@got2bjosh Hayden is maybe not an incredible actor, but he did what he was supposed to, at least in ROTS. In AOTC his acting isn't too great, but most of the stupid dialouge isn't his fault
@mr.stuffdoer8483
@mr.stuffdoer8483 3 жыл бұрын
The issues come from Lucas’s writing and directing. Bad directing can hurt a good actor. Look at Robert Pattinson, man went from the Twilight movies to being a super intimidating Batman. Even looking at the OT, most of the actors without significant experience weren’t great, but with Hayden, I think what he nails in a lot of scenes is the expressions. Take the “I’m pregnant.” scene for example. He shows so many varying emotions through expressions alone.

We joke but it was clearly a deliberate choice by Obi-Wan and Yoda. They put Leia and Luke in two different places and social statuses so they would be raised differently. They didn't know what kind of background was needed to fight Darth Vader so one became a princess and the other a farmer. 2 polar opposite social classes to maximize their chances.

As in, she prenatally connected with her mother, via the force, and that is what she sort of recalls - but, never having been trained in the force at this point, doesn't recognize it as that, and puts it down to distant memories.

Quotes like that are why I really don't like that whole "chip in the brain" thing. It has so much more thematic weight to have the clones turn on the Jedi "willingly", so to speak, fully aware of what they were doing. To have them be artifically forced to do it just feels like a massive cop-out.
@Captain_tiberius
@Captain_tiberius 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrConstantine02 I agree, though I swing back and forth on the matter. Thematically it works so much better, and has so much more meaning, showing them doing this god awful evil thing, because "orders are orders." ties in so many real world atrocities, and give so many real world parallels, it really makes them feel human. However, the gimmick of the chip in the brain, is much more disgustable for child audiences, not that they couldn't understand, but I know personally when I was a kid, I wanted a reason like this to explain why the cool heroes were suddenly bad guys. plus, it has had some very impactful cinematic moments like "good solders fallow orders." But much like midichlorians, I don't know if they really bring as much to the table as they take away.
@Gamemaster6400
@Gamemaster6400 3 жыл бұрын
I feel that the chips do make more sense( to me at least) because these soldiers have been fighting side by side for 3 years and we've seen that the jedi really care about their soldiers so it doesn't really make sense in my mind that they wouldn't develop strong bonds which is why with out some sort of brain washing or something it doesn't really feel right to me
@MrConstantine02
@MrConstantine02 3 жыл бұрын
@@Gamemaster6400 Deep bonds were developed. But it didn't matter; orders are orders. That's why the no chip theory is the most interesting: it gives the Clones far more character depth, it shows them feeling regret, being mindful of their actions, but still doing them because that's what they were bred to do. It makes them much more interesting characters than just brainwashed drones with inhibitor chips.
@TheSchnieder6
@TheSchnieder6 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrConstantine02 Haven't watched the final season of The Clone Wars or any of Rebels, so I don't know if they go deeper into the inhibitor chips. I remember the CW episode that featured the chips, though I don't remember what was stated in it and how concrete the chips were in their canon implementation at that point. But I've come to the head canon that only commanding officers had the chips. So that they were the ones that received the orders and took them without question. They then relayed them to their comrades, who in turn trusted them completely because they were from their commander/squad leader. Those with the chips _couldn't_ question the order, and those without _wouldn't_ question them, because they came from another clone. And the 501st followed Anakin into the Jedi Temple with Order 66 because they trusted him completely, and didn't shoot him on sight for perceiving him as a Jedi.

I think Anakin's story is one of mental illness that was left to turn from bad to worse. He was the right (or wrong) age to be taken from his home and mother, then also lose his father-figure (Qui-Gon), to be raised by an rather distant and uncaring Jedi order. All the violence and trauma of his formative years clearly did lasting damage, then a manipulative old man exploited that and turned him into something ugly and dangerous. Maybe this is the real reason the Jedi normally recruit younger. Young enough and you can usually avoid trauma when tearing the child from their family. At Anakin's age, you're pretty much helping create a serial killer.

That combined with the fact that he was literally a god on his way to become the most powerful being in the universe. Like people in the real world changes when they get alot of power or money, not that strange he got some hubris… Age 0-9: grows up a slave on Star Wars version of Afghanistan without a father. Age 9: Being taken from your mother into a religious cult where you cant have any attachments, basically being a real life monk, your father figure dies. Age 9-19: Get trained by a religious warrior monk that only keeps you around for a promise to a dead friend, at the same time being groomed by a master manipulator and being told you’re the messiah. Age 19: Fall in love, get married and have to keep that a secret, lose your arm in a fight, your mom dies in your arms who you could have saved but your mentor forbade you. Age 19-22: Gets the position of General without combat experience, in charge of other peoples lifes and leads soldiers into a war, loses many of them, starting to blame yourself and the cult your a part of, gets ptsd, your mentor fakes his death and doesnt tell you, your now best friend and student gets expelled and wrongfully tried for murder, gets to see the hypocrisy of the monk cult your a part of, loses more faith in the cult, all while the master manipulator is the only person who has your back. Age 22: Having visions of your wife dying, the monk culture is unethical and asks you to spy on your only friend and father figure, you have been like a superhero in the war, your the most talented person in the galaxy but the only one appreciating your talent is the master manipulator who also tells you he can save your wife, the ”good guys” you’re apart of also tries to assasinate that same person without a trial… I dont think I would have killed a bunch of kids but to be honest, we all would have been really really fucked up. People keep saying ”oh I dont like him in the prequals he’s so moody, he’s much more fun in the clone wars” like, what? Anakin's life was hell. No father, he and his mother were slaves, he gets taken to be raised by Jedi but is forced to leave his mother in slavery, is told he can't marry or love anyone, suffers the death of his mother and blames himself because he feels he could've prevented it if only he didn't listen to the Jedi code and came back for her sooner. Everyone he has ever cared for has been taken from him, and he has always blamed himself. So when he finally loves someone, Padme, the thought of losing her as well is enough to push him over the edge. He is done losing those he cares for. But in going down that path, he seals the very fate he was fighting so hard to prevent. Hate and pain become all he has, the only things that has remained constant in his life.

if you watch the clone wars series, it goes way more into depth with anakin's slow progression going to the dark side. It has a lot to do with YEARS of sidius manipulating him and the jedi council betraying him (in his eyes) and it goes through his story with Ahsoka, his padawan, which actually had A LOT to do with why he went dark. Vadar is seriously my fave star wars character. He's been through A LOT and he really is one of the most powerful

The Clone Wars series does fill a lot of background information but it is a shame the story and characterization in this film did not make it more immediately clear to audiences. Anakin was a child slave, turned into a child soldier, and suffering from PTSD after years leading an army of slaves (clones).

And yet that was Yodas least wise thing he's ever said. For example. Can't Anger lead to hate, hate lead to suffering, and suffering lead to fear? Or fear lead to anger, anger leads to suffering and suffering lead to hate? Four totally different emotional states do not naturally lead from one state to another. There can be cause or effects in any order because the reasons for any of the emotional states can be completely different things. It was a completely stupid line written for this movie and made Yoda sound like a not very smart master

Remember lightning didn't disfigure luke and make him look like a toads sac

Both of them are sad to me, but for different reasons. Rogue One is sad because although you know the outcome of the story, you don't know how it plays out until the end of the movie when you slowly realize what's inevitable. But even though you know that this prequel series (and this film in particular) ends up in tragedy, it still hits a bit harder because you're more invested in the characters (having spent time with them in the previous films). Rogue One had cool characters who you grow to love in that movie, but I'm not as emotionally invested in them as I am Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme. The story of Anakin Skywalker is a Shakespearean tragedy that you get to watch over the course of 6 films.
