This is around the time where lil Wayne put the game on a headlock. He really blew up after this, with his mixtape run and tha Carter 3. He basically self proclaimed himself as the best rapper alive and at the time it was basically between him and jay z. Both of their last names are Carter which brought a rivalry between them. Which later turned into a feature on tha Carter 3. This was definitely a situation where you just had to be there to understand. Not only that he influenced a lot of the rappers that came out after him.

One of the big "criticisms" of Southern Hip Hop, especially in the early 2000's was their flows were always "slow", which some equated to being basic, and that's one of the reasons why you hear Wayne bringing it up multiple times throughout the album.

You mentioned you were going to tackle Tha Carter III next- You should also consider covering his EP "The Leak", which was originally going to be Tha Carter III, but ended up getting leaked (hence the name) right before the album was supposed to drop- so Wayne put it out for free and just went back and completely re-did a ton of new songs for the album that became C3. The Leak was insanely popular, but when C3 came out, it changed the world.

Bob, I hope you understand or can grasp the impact that this album and his mixtapes prior to and after this had on hip-hop. This put EVERYONE on notice. Anyone could get it at that time. Rappers that don’t “write” usually lay their vocals down a few bars at a time. They aren’t just freestyling a whole song in one go, though still impressive.

If you got the cd when it came out, the production on “best rapper alive” is incredible. They must have lost the sample clearance because ever since the album dropped they pulled out the meat of the beat and it’s just hollow now… I can’t find the original and lost the cd… it was an epic track before the production change.

I remember my uncle heard me listening to this around the time it came out (he's considerably older than us) but he had the same interpretation of the Money on Mind hook as you did. The idea behind "Fuck bitches, get money" in this context isn't about having sex with many women. He's more so saying forget about them. Don't focus on bitches, focus on getting your money up. That's why the voice in the background, on the last bar, says "Money on my mind, so money is all I think of". We not thinkin' 'bout bitches, they gonna be there whenever. There will be plenty of opportunity to actually fuck 'em when the time comes. 👍🏾 ....Sorry, if someone pointed this out already.
