ah in this youtube age we can find reactions to everything...yours are hands down the best one I've seen (imagine seeing some much bigger channels going down the list keep saying "I haven't seen this/I've never heard of this"). Here's hope that in 2032 we will see some latin/central/south America representations, be it from recent decades' acclaimed filmmakers (and maybe Cinema Tropical's work can finally pay off a bit in film canon), or the classic eras like the golden age of Mexican and Argentina Cinema, Cinema Novo etc. Including more critics and filmmakers outside of Eurocentric sphere should be the key. Oh and also films from these regions in general desperately need more streaming and restoration access, something needs to happen outside of criterion/Janus perhaps.

Im in the same boat as you. I was shocked a bit, being an old white guy, but I welcome more representation. The one thing we have to remember is other people, women, poc, might like different movies. They might admire 2001, my pick also, but really connect with jeanne dielman. Its a good thing

Love your video! As a relative newbie (only watching most of anything I should see in the past couple years) you certainly have enough knowledge to help me understand where films were at before this list, and your perspective about the importance of including other voices without losing admiration and respect for films so 'from the patriarchy' is well worded. Exciting times, and your reactions spoke volumes for me.

Seems earth-shattering to the canon in the worst possible way. A film notoriously hostile to the craft and art of cinema besting the films that mastered the craft and art of cinema? I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that a massive block of critics voting in the poll for the first or second time conspired among themselves a way to dynamite the canon.
