My grandparents did not like each other either. When they moved to a retirement/nursing home “together” they chose to have their own rooms and even requested separate floors! They openly spoke about being sick of each other while continually bashing people getting divorced and not “having what it takes” to be married. So ridiculous!
@queencelestyna3 жыл бұрын
My grandparents became closer in their later years but openly admitted that they were pressured into marriage (teen pregnancy) and then too busy parenting and working to really get to know each other. When they both retired at the same time, they both quickly got part-time jobs because they couldn't deal with being home together all the time. By the time my grandpa died, they were very close, but Grandma would be the first to tell you that was something they didn't develop until the LAST years of their marriage. They 100% supported their children's divorces over the years, though, which I'm grateful for, but they definitely knew people in similar situations who were strongly anti-divorce.

I got the notification for this video while I was at my 5-year-old son’s swimming lesson. His instructor is a young, college-aged woman, and as she was getting into the pool to teach her class full of preschoolers, the manager came out and made her put on a t-shirt over her bikini. You could see in her face she was confused and bothered by it. None of the male instructors were wearing shirts, and strangely, the female lifeguards weren’t wearing shirts over their similar two-piece suits. They are all employees of the pool. The only difference I could see was that this instructor was a little fuller figured than the lifeguards. The craziest part was that it was a white t-shirt, so it wasn’t actually hiding anything. I thought that was a sign it was time to snark on some Girl Defined.

GAWD!!!! A note on dictionaries: A dictionary's purpose is *not* to be the authority on how to use words. It is to document how words *are being used* in the world. A dictionary is a historical document, not a rule book.

My biggest complaint about people bitching about divorce is this whole idea that divorce is the end of a happy marriage. No, no it is not. Divorce is the end of a shitty marriage, it’s a happy event that allows two people to go find the person they are truly meant to be with, and it’s a happy event, if complicated lease so, for the children who are now not growing up with parents who hate each other.

When you said what is a "real" woman, it instantly reminded me of how inconsiderate people can be. I had a conversation with someone whose wife recently gave birth to their first child. So we were talking about it and he went off saying that you are only a true woman once you give birth to a child, before that you are not a "real" woman. I felt a bit personally attacked because they know well I do not want children, but in that moment I thought about women I know who desperately want children of their own but can not have them because of infertility. Even though in the moment I stood up for myself, the way I have to do countless times in these conversations, I could not help but leave the room feeling empty, that a person I know thinks so shallow and has no consideration for people's own personal experiences. At least I do not associate with him often and the majority of the people I know are understanding, but it worries me that people can not think beyond themselves and their own experiences...

Ugh there are shockingly so many people in that crowd. Especially when it comes to vaginal birth vs cesarean. But that aside, it’s super trans-exclusionary as well, which makes me sad. There's a lot of gatekeeping around the definition of womenhood, mostly pertaining to motherhood and nurturing behaviors and relationship status. I'm doing my MA in a foreign country, travel alone often (or at least I did before COVID, am fluent in a foreign language, write poetry and do mixed media art but I can't help but feel more like a grown woman now that I have a man. I was single for most of my adult life. When I would visit home (Missouri), I always felt a bit like out of touch, kind of like people didn't know how to place me. Now that I'm engaged, I feel like other women take me more seriously and respect my boundaries more. It's super messed up. It sucks that those people made you feel like you had to conform to meet the common misconception of womanhood. I feel it too in a way. It kind of hurts feeling like I'm taken more seriously now I'm in a relationship. It's demeaning and sometimes it feels like I wasn't a "real" woman with out a man.

I haven’t read this book, but I’ve read plenty like it, compliments of the evangelical purity culture of the 90’s/00’s. I hate that everything is presented as SO extreme- virgin vs. constantly sleeping around, purity vs. depravity. No middle ground. It’s also frustrating that purity culture seems to assume a person can’t set and enforce personal boundaries or have common sense. Instead of being able to say that you don’t want to have sex/talk about it/watch movies you aren’t comfortable with/wear clothing you don’t like, it’s assumed that if you step outside a purity bubble, everyone will pressure you to do these things and you will cave in. Umm, NO. I’m an ex-fundie, and I’m very capable of setting boundaries and enforcing them all on my own! Leaving the evangelical purity culture hasn’t meant constant unsafe sex, or wearing inappropriate clothing. Instead I use common sense combined with personal boundaries and beliefs. Ironically, I’m comfortable with doing some of what they say is “right”, but the difference is that it’s my choice

Okay two things- Have they never seen or heard about the “porn” all over Ancient Greece??? Egypt??? The main reason the divorce rate is higher now is because women have rights and opportunities. In previous generations most women were stuck. Women couldn’t even have checking account not that long ago. They didn’t have the ability to leave an abusive relationship or just an unhappy one. They had no choice!!!

This isn't fluff, in my opinion...they straight out said "following your heart to lead real love is bad, because it's a sinful, disgusting, selfish and horrible thing, and YOU should not follow your heart, never listen to your self, only in our words." Saying being gay is a disgusting sin, because they want the LGBTQ to be silent and be tortured, so they won't fight them all the time because it's easy to make them silent by having no human rights to lgbtqia kids, teens or adults (mostly teens). So that's why I don't think what we read in chapter 4 is fluff, it's obviously clear of what they said. I just hate them so much, I wish Bethany don't have a kid, because who knows what will happen that kid if that kid is gay or just having their own path to success... because the shit she saids and her sister, it's bad.

No, marriage has nothing to do with God. I am a Christian, and I am happy to clarify that for anyone. While, yes, many religious groups have their own traditions and views on marriage, marriage was not created by the church. It always has, and always will be a legal contract. At the end of the wedding, the priest, pastor, rabbi, etc. always says, "And now, by the power vested in me by the state of (Insert Location Here), you may now kiss the (spouse)." That means, that it is a recognized legal contract, not just a religious sacrament. If it was only a religious thing, then atheists wouldn't be able to marry. Also, technically, when you are pronounced wed, you're not actually wed yet. You are not officially marriage until the marriage license is signed and filed by the courts. If something goes wrong with the paperwork, then nothing about that ceremony matters at all.

There *I* said it)! I really believe, that for Bethany, this book , the channel etc has nothing to do with God at all. I think she truly loves looking down on others. Having these “outlets” are way to be a judgy gossip and it not be a “sin.” Every time I hear about something they have said/written/done it keeps surprising me (although it doesn’t particularly shock me). Just when you think you can’t be possibly be any worse…they top themselves. Especially when Bethany opens her mouth (or puts words on paper…although most likely someone else did *that* part).

I might need that Down with the patriarchy and God created me to be a feminist ass bitch as vinyl stickers cuz those would look great on my bumper alongside my Protect Black Lives, Stop Asian Hate and Protect Trans Lives stickers! Love all y'alls content!

Imagine being a young impressionable teen. trying to figure yourself out and navigate in the world of gender identity, confidence, love, relationships, sexuality and everything like that. And THESE TWO LADIES are who you rely on for advice? My heart breaks for any lgbtqia+ kid believing what girl defined says is the truth. Poor things! I hope they all have someone in their life who can tell them they are loved and valued and worthy of everything good in life, no matter who they fall in love with, or if they feel comfortable with their assigned gender or not, or if they are getting intimate with someone they're not married to, or anything else.

Hmm... never thought of a dictionary being a culture time capsule, but it works like that.👍

Also I love listening to these since I’m pagan so you guys talking about Jesus I’m over here just thinking about my gods and how different pagan deities are compared to Jesus and Christian God. It’s really interesting

Friendly Neighborhood Asexual here. Sexual desire is not the same as sexual attraction. Lack of sexual attraction is what asexuality is all about. Sexual desire is how you, personally, feel about yourself engaging in sexual activity. People who experience sexual attraction can be sex repulsed or indifferent. Asexual people can also be sex-favorable and love engaging in sex but don't experience sexual attraction. Human sexuality is so fucking intricate and diverse.

I feel like these people think that people who have sex before marriage have waaaay more sex than they actually do lol. Like that shit takes time, I got stuff to do

Meriam Webster actually wrote the dictionary to glorify God so like… girl defined’s argument is that he didn’t do that good enough?

Did anyone ask God first, if it was ok to use 'he' to represent thyself? Maybe it was a misinterpretation..

Thank you for mentioning people who are intersex! My wife is intersex and does advocacy. It's not talked about enough, particularly for how prevalent intersex conditions are.
