The reason that the field battle theme sounds wild and unstructured at the start is because it's technically just a blueprint. Additional instruments and motifs will pick up and fade out depending on how the battle is going, almost generating music as you fight. There's a video titled "Invisible Sound Design in Breath of The Wild" that goes over this and a bunch of other quirks in the soundtrack during gameplay, it's worth checking out if you're interested in that kind of thing!

One of the really fun things about the BotW soundtrack is that the songs vary a little based on things like time of day and weather. So while you do hear a lot of the same music, it also changes as you go. For example, the Hyrule Castle has an indoor and outdoor theme, and it switches based on where you are.
@ShiroKage009

This is basically a style of video game music pioneered by the first Mario Galaxy. Nintendo kept using it since with different instrumental tracks and things that just fade in and out of the track.
@TheNe0PhyT3
@TheNe0PhyT3 Жыл бұрын
@@ShiroKage009I'm pretty sure the entire Donkey Kong Country series had that as a major part of it, even back on the SNES. Music would be slightly adjusted based on if you were abive/below water. And certain environments had sounds like wind, ship creaking, buzzing, and even mining that was all blended into the music.

I love these kinds of dynamic or adaptive soundtracks that change based on what's happening in the game. Even down to fighting games like Third Strike, where the music transitions to the next part of the song after the next round starts. Even as far back as Sonic the hedgehog 3, were act one played the original version of the song, and act two of the Zone plays a remix

If you like the BOTW music, I would definitely suggest checking out some key themes from other Zelda games. Probably the most influential is Ocarina of Time, but I'll go ahead and list some popular bangers from a few games (sorted by game but otherwise in no particular order): Ocarina of Time (for this game, you actually play many of the songs on an Ocarina, so I'll be posting the main theme and then what that theme is called when Link learns it and what the fanbase knows it as): 1. Lost Woods (Saria's Song) 2. Windmill Hut (Song of Storms) 3. Temple of Time (Song of Time) 4. Princess Zelda (Zelda's Lullaby) 5. Gerudo Valley 6. Kokiri Forest 7. Kakariko Village 8. Zora's Domain 9. Hyrule Field 10. Title Theme Majora's Mask: 1. Song of Healing 2. Astral Observatory 3. Stone Tower Temple 4. Title Theme 5. Giant's Theme Twilight Princess: 1. Title Theme 2. Hyrule Field 3. Midna's Theme 4. Hyrule Castle 5. Ilia's Theme 6. Gerudo Desert 7. File Select (best rendition of the Fairy Fountain theme IMO) 8. Midna's Lament 9. Sacred Grove 10. Malo Mart Wind Waker: 1. Title Theme 2. The Legendary Hero 3. Outset Island 4. Dragon Roost Island 5. Departure/Pirate Ship 6. Windfall Island 7. Farewell Hyrule King 8. Inside a House 9. The Great Sea 10. Molgera Battle Skyward Sword: 1. Main Theme 2. Romance in the Air 3. Fi’s Gratitude 4. Groose's Theme 5. Crimson Loftwing Link's Awakening (Remake, Preferably): 1. Tal Tal Heights 2. Mabe Village 3. Ballad of the Windfish 4. Link's Awakening 5. Shop Spirit Tracks: 1. Opening 2. Aboda Village 3. Castle Town 4. In the Fields 5. Realm Overworld A Link Between Worlds: 1. Lorule Main Theme 2. Lorule Castle 3. Hilda's Theme 4. Hyrule Castle 5. Death Mountain Miscellaneous: 1. Palace Theme (Zelda II) 2. Linebeck's Theme (Phantom Hourglass) 3. Hyrule Castle (Inside) (Breath of the Wild) 4. Minish Village (Minish Cap) 5. Dungeon Theme (The Legend of Zelda) I'm sure I missed a lot though, and obviously these lists have been influenced by my opinions, but I'd say those 60 are a good summary of the series and its amazing music. Edit: Added some I forgot

One thing that should be noted is that some music changes depending on danger and time. For example, the field battle theme. If you fight a common monster, the theme is simple; not that epic. Showing how weak and pathetic your enemy is. But if you are fighting a particularly powerful monster or if you are fighting a large group, the battle theme becomes epic. This can change mid-battle. As you kill enemies or even when enemies appear out of nowhere.

Hyrule Castle is the seat of power for the rulers of the land most Zelda games take place in. In Breath of the Wild it serves as the final dungeon because it was seized by the enemy and used as the enemy's base from which to destroy the land. You're taking it back, that's why the theme sounds both ominous and epic.

Damn I'm so sad that Dark Beast Ganon wasn't on the list, that song makes me cry literally every single time without fail and I've heard it so many times. It's this beautiful mashup of the main theme alongside the horse riding theme and a bunch of other stuff. It plays during the final phase of the final boss and it's just this amazing victory lap with breathtaking visuals and the music always makes me start thinking about how many good times I had with the game *in the middle of the boss battle*. I'm replaying Botw rn and I'm going for near 100% completion before going to fight the final boss and I'm so excited to have that showdown one last time to send off this beautiful game, just in time for the sequel to come out in May Edit: Botw is honestly a bottomless pit of beautiful music I just remembered a bunch that I think could've gone on that list too, but I don't disagree with any of the music on the list, the OST is just that stacked. Off the top of my head theres Horse riding (day and night versions), Monk Maz Koshia, Kakariko Village, Guardian battle, Master Kohga, The Final Trial, Miphas theme, Hyrule Castle INTERIOR (the theme you heard at #10 was the exterior theme), and Gerudo Town

Personally I think Hyrule Castle was ranked a bit low in this video, it's a really good song with all it's parts working to tell a story: soldier's marching, an ominous menace looming, using a melody associated with the royal family as a bridge, and even making use of the series low health beep to elude to a desperate struggle, all told by the music as you explore the castle

The Modulga theme has such good implementation in game. The Molduga is a giant sand swimming beast whose presence is accompanied by the rapid drums beats and strings, but as soon as you get the Molduga in a vulnerable state to attack it the strings kick it into high gear and all the instruments of the song join in as you rush it down and lay into it, it creates such a rush and it's a really cool feeling fight

Field Battle works in a really interesting way in-game. The different sections transition from one another based on how intense the fight is. If the game thinks you're in danger, it will finish the part it's on and uniquely modulate into the epic section you heard towards the end. There are also so many other details that I won't have room to write in this comment - the attention to detail is immense!!!

Oh, this ost is FULL of little musical Easter eggs for the long time fans for example you get to Hyrule's castle and you hear the theme of the castle but you also hear the organ in the bag and you know what character is there and what that means and then woven in you hear your theme, link's theme and you say "this represents me going through all this crap and drowning, even if for a few moments the theme of the bad guy and just sort of overcoming this place" and then you find the princess' chambers and you hear the super iconic "Zelda's lullaby" also woven into the castle theme and you understand that even tho the princess isn't there anymore and hasn't been for 100 years, that this is a safe space as if only by her inhabiting that set of rooms 100 years ago made her chambers impervious to whatever evil influence you hear in the rest of the castle

Revali is such an interesting character and a surprising combination... He's probably the saltiest character in all Zelda games, with an awful personality, annoying almost every time you see him, however, his theme song and all informations you get about him after the main history (like when you find his personal diary, or when we can see his side of the events on the Age of Calamity game) shows he had much more under the surface than we initially thought. His theme always gave me the feeling of freedom. And that was exactly what Revali was in the story of the game. He was a bird, so, he could fly, but he was also a very free thinker. Was there something the others of his species couldn't do? He tried, tried, and then did it, and trained like crazy until he perfected it. Everyone just loves and trusts the hero? Well, no, he didn't trust him, he hadn't prove himself as trustworthy yet, and he absolutely doesn't loves him at all! Actually, a pretty normal and healthy thinking process, if we reflect about it...

One little tidbit I haven't seen anyone else mention: the instrument that Kass is playing is actually a _bandoneon,_ a cousin of the accordion that lacks the register switches that let the accordion play in different registers. It's a mechanically simpler instrument, but it can carry the same versatility if the musician knows what they're doing. (Also difficult to tell in the image: Kass is, like, _3 meters tall._ Big blue bird-dad, is Kass, and we love him.)

Thank you for reminding me how amazing BOTW OST is! One of my first ever games I played when I got my Switch was this one and I still, to this day, love it so much! The world, the atmosphere, the endless hours of exploration and fun! SO GOOD! Love your content and videos! Keep it up and happy to see you having slowly recovered yourself 😊! P.S. If you want to really explore GODLY OST, without needing to play the game ofc, I HIIIIIIGHLY recommend listening to anything Genshin Impact related. It is an on-going open-world gatcha game with the most amazing characters, story and OST! Whether you delve deep into sitting down and reacting to all of the character Demos, or just in general boss themes, battle themes, or anything at all - this game has absolutely got some of THE BEST OST EVER! I’d even be happy to recommend a few myself to get you into it!

When they put the original theme into the newer music it always makes me tear up. In TOTK especially because of when it played during a specific cutscene I cried. 😭

"You can't do quiet piano music and ambient environment sounds" - While probably not by music length in the OST, that's basically 90% of the soundtrack by play experience because that's what orchestrates you when you're not in a named location, on a horse, at a stable, near Kass, or in combat.

I love your conflicted reaction to Hyrule Castle, bc it’s SUPPOSED to be a grand, virtuous palace, but it’s been corrupted by the villain of the story, giving the fanfare a very ominous and wrong feeling.

POKEMON MASTERS ALERT POKEMON MASTERS ALERT NEW BATTLE THEMES HAVE BEEN ADDED Well just two actually. A second Galar gym Leader theme as well as a Galar neo champion theme. Both are great themes but I don't think two is enough for one video. Thank you for listening.

I may be misremembering, but while the main theme may not be a track of its own, I think its melodies are mixed into various tracks in most of the games.

About the Divine Beasts, these are actually a mix of bosses and dungeons. Like, huuuge mechanical wonders you have to hunt and fight (they are mechanical, so, weapons), enter inside them, solve some puzzles, defeat a boss, and then, bring their power to your side. The songs you heard, both Medoh's and Naboris', are the "hunt and fight" songs. However, there is a second theme for them, and when you enter, the song changes. And when it happens... - SPOILERS ahead, not big (don't worry, I'm not putting anything to really destroy the whole experience), but if you plan to play the game someday, please, don't read this until you get to the Divine Beasts' part on the game: - - - On the story, some people were murdered inside the Divine Beasts, so, on the "insides" themes (in special the momment you enter) you can hear a frantic SOS signal in morse code mashed into the songs, alongside some desperate messages (every Divine Beast has its own message), also in morse code. All layered onto one another, incomplete and stopping abruptly before starting again. It can be very disturbing, in special when you can understand the code and add it to the story of the game. It gets fainter and fainter after you start to solve the puzzles. It was a very interesting and mature way to create a song with this particular somber theme, almost like a catastrophic sunking ship theme, and I absolutelly applaud Nintendo for that.
Tears of the Kingdom Left Me Speechless.
