What really irritated me about these Extreme Cheapskates is they seem to find the MOST RIDICULOUS ways to SHOW they are cheap. You can be smart with your money and your expenses and diy stuff without it being in your face and over the top. The pool thing for one, instead of using the pool water to wash the dishes, they can use it to water the plants or flush the toilet or clean the driveway. Anything but using it on plates you have to eat on. At this point, I am 75% convinced that they care more about LOOKING cheap than actually saving money.

100%. I grew up in poverty, and we still did everything we could to not look as poor as we were, within reason. Our neighbor let us kids play in his yard with the sprinkler running, and we'd put a bucket out there so that while we were playing, it could catch the water, and we'd use that water to either drink or (just hose water, nothin wrong with it, not dirty or anything) and to wash the dog, we scavenged at yard sales for replacement parts when we needed them (got a showerhead off an old lady for 2 bucks, she was sweet), and we'd shop clearance days at the grocery store when all the food with an expiration date within 2 days was 75% off (but it was literally still fine for at least a week after that exp date). The only outwardly obvious thing that marked us as poor was that we still watched VHS well into the 2000s and only switched to DVDs in like, 2012. VHS were cheap, we found whole boxes full of tapes for like 2 bucks and we got 30 movies out of it.

As a woman, I believe that being frugal and mindful with your spending is important, especially when you don't have a lot of money. However, when you have the means to live comfortably and provide for yourself and your family, there is no reason to continue being an extreme cheapskate. In my opinion, it's okay to be a cheapskate when you're struggling financially, but once you've achieved financial stability, it's important to live a balanced life and enjoy the benefits of your hard work. It's important to find a balance between saving money and enjoying the fruits of your labor. Being excessively frugal can lead to missing out on important experiences and opportunities, and can also strain relationships with loved ones.

“Here. Is. Your. One. Rib?” There is a line between saving money and endangering health? Like, my mom goes on Facebook market place and finds furniture for cheaper/free. Or thrift stores. And also, literally using a fucking cup is the same thing as what that dude was doing? But better? We have cups from when I was a baby. 20+ years old. Buy a cup. Buying one thing, and using it for years is both more cost effective and sustainable. (It also would have been less expensive for him to buy a larger tub of unflavored yogurt and use one of his jelly packs to flavor a bowl) I just. Fight me.

As someone whos worked in retail in the flooring department, you NEVER want to get “sections” of carpet replaced because you run into the issue of needing to obviously replace all the carpet. A new carpet roll may be the same color, make model brand ext. but the “dye lot” may be different by a slight difference that it’s unnoticeable until it’s placed next to each other (ex. Carpet samples) this creates a significant difference thus making your home look…cheap… if you do it the way like this family wants. Just spend the $1K-3K it’ll take (depending if it’s sold by the yard or foot) to avoid this shit 8:18

The first house might be a handymans dream. Those issues really drive the price down but if you can fix it yourself it's quite affordable to repair/improve
@Maninawig3 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Home repairs are like icebergs: the easy things to fix are just what you see, but only 10% of the dangerous things you don't below... Such as hot water tank, leaky pipes, etc. Many "handy men" thinking such a house is a fixer upper often pay much more in repairs than what they saved on the house.
@crabtrap3 жыл бұрын
@@Maninawig not true. If u replace waterheater etc...u know the quality and lifespan of new item. Seller usually only needs to decide to get higher price w repairs or a reduced price w no money spent on repairs. The only advantage is a quicker sale on a turn key house. That house was not a fixerupper tho. It just needed decluttered and cleaned
@Maninawig3 жыл бұрын
@@crabtrap sorry if I misspoke. I was not referring to proper house repairs, but the cosmetic repairs that the family used which can actually hide potential safety hazards in ways that a handyman might not see during the sale. One example my (plumber) cousin told me (and why he doesn't do repairs) was a burst pipe he was asked to fix. The client had bought the house 6 months ago with no major problems listed, but when my cousin checked out the leak, he had discovered a Frankensteined mess of sharkbites and pipe trimmings... Not only were the cuts not straight (making the sharkbite seals guaranteed to fail), but the guy mixed brass and copper pipes, leading to galvanized corrosion that even made it's way to the hot water tank... That "DIY repair" with no records that was hidden for the sale cost the new owner a pretty penny as my cousin had to gut and replace all the plumbing and the HW tank. So going back to my previous statement, the house might be a good project for a handyman, but it can also be hiding a financial sinkhole.
@crabtrap3 жыл бұрын
@@Maninawig thats why smart people hire pro home inspectors. When i buy a house....if i see any half assed repair to fix a cheap issue, o assume they sharkbite or flex taped the big stuff
@Maninawig3 жыл бұрын
@@crabtrap do you think the inspector has a magical 3D imaging software? Cause a plumber couldn't even find a sharkbite hidden behind drywall, let alone an inspector. The inspector just tests the dryness of the gypsum, looks for damages, age, wear and tare, and calls it a day. They are also not liable for missing such things as "there was no indication that the guy even made repairs"... I have been in construction and have talked to inspectors... They can't figure out what they can't see. And fun fact: Being made of wood, North American homes shift over the year, so what might be a water tight sharkbite seal now would only need that tiny twist to completely break... At no fault of this inspector for not knowing.

It is not that they can't afford it but that they refuse to spend the money.

@@natashamiller4860 You’re completely missing the point here, and also- there’s a HUGE difference between can’t and won’t. You’re failing to grasp the cheapskate concept. These people clearly have money and are choosing not to spend it on things they don’t deem as necessary or “worthy”. I don’t think for a minute they’re living outside their means. I think they’re idiot savants who pick and choose where to spend their money. They can afford a nice big house and they can afford to furnish it nicely if they wanted to, but they think its a waste of money. They’re definitely the type who has plenty of money to take a nice vacation, so they do- they’ll spend a small fortune flying to hawaii but then they get the smallest room in a mediocre hotel, make the kids sleep on the floor and “cook” all of their meals out of the in room kitchenette because they don’t want to spend money on “frivolous” lodging and restaurants because they consider it a waste. But then they’ll happily spend a bunch of money on activities/experiences. Unfortunately I’ve known people like this. They don’t see value in maintenance expenses, preventative expenses, or non essential repairs (shower head, carpet, fence paint) so they spend as little as possible on those things and then splurge in other areas. None of the people I know who have done this are living outside their means. None have debt outside of a mortgage and occasionally a car payment (but paying interest is wasteful so they prefer to purchase vehicles outright vs financing them). I’m not saying I agree with it, I’m actually quite opposed. But its not the same as living outside their means.
@natashamiller48602 жыл бұрын
@@nicholem4831 no I am not missing the point. I very much agree with you. I was looking at the way they act…they act as if they are not capable of fixing those basic, necessary repairs. And my point is that logic works no better because if you can’t afford to maintain your home, you are living outside your means in the very same way that just not wanting to is equally wrong. Either excuse falls short. THAT is my point. What I was doing was using logic to show the holes in their reasoning of their position.

What really grinds my gears with the second dude is the lack of effort he put into that date. Sure, the restaurant he picked was 'cheaper than sushi' but it was still clearly at a price range that made him uncomfortable, and as a result he made it an uncomfortable experience for her too. It's not difficult to plan a really fun, super cheap date, but a restaurant where 90% of the menu is out of your price range ain't it. Like Kris said, there's nothing wrong with fast food for a first date, or if you don't want to buy a whole meal, go get ice cream, or a cup of coffee, go for a walk somewhere pretty, check out a free art gallery, have a picnic in the park with some homemade PB&Js, go to the beach, find a place that does free comedy shows, or a local sports game, a place that does cheap pool, or open mic karaoke, or unlimited arcade nights. Some of the best dates I've ever been on have cost less than $10. Or like, just come out and say 'Hey, do you mind paying for your own meal?'. I guarantee she'd prefer that to you bring all controlling about what she can order. Seriously, this guy will put in the effort to figure out exactly how much money he's saving by not flushing the toilet, but won't put in five minutes to plan an actual fun, cheap date? Also, obviously the toilet thing is super disgusting, but also, he's washing his clothes in the shower? Does that mean he only washes and wears one set of clothes per week, or is he going through a whole pile of laundry and scrubbing them under the shower? That's... actually not super efficient, he'd save more water and money by taking quicker showers and using a wash tub. Maybe then he could afford to flush that gross toilet?
