I'm a 12 year veteran of the Marine Corps so I fully understand what the boot camp experience is like. I was thinking the same thing. My RDCs never, ever spoke that quietly. Even the most banal statements were spoken like a bark. But then again, videos like that one are recruiting materials so the Navy wants to minimize all of the yelling and screaming.

IKR. When I went to Great Lakes we slept on bunk beds, wore dungarees, boon dockers, CCs yelled all the time and spent a lot of time marching and doing push ups. We even drilled with an M16 but CC were not allowed to used them for punishment unless you were in MTU lol

God damn, they changed everything up. Ten years ago, it was nothing like this. Way more aggressive, shit got thrown out of the coffins if done wrong during inspection, IT lasting two hours, then cleaning up all the sweat on the floor. Luckily, since I was in Duty Section for the division, me and the others got it so damn easy. We did all of our training ahead of the division, then return for compartment cleaning. We kicked ass on EVERY inspection and narrowly avoided IT sessions. I'll never forget our third RDC saying "Duty Section, get your asses in the god damn head and start cleaning." We knew if MA1 said that, shit was gonna go south quick. I miss Great Mistakes, but at the same time I don't miss it. Great video, JT! Navy now, Navy forever! HOO'YAH NAVY!

Boot camp is a necessary evil, but it was way different from what I expected. There was no heart to it. I expected to feel like I was joining the Navy, not like I was at fucked up summer camp. Regardless, I'm glad I did it because I love the Navy. For those shipping out soon, remember that they want you to learn to keep your head. Don't go in robot mode all the time. Use your head. Play the game. Anyone can get through boot camp with a little commitment. Remember why you're there. 9 weeks will fly by and you'll be sitting proud in A School.

I was there back in November 1987, the days of dungarees. The short people had to always pull "road guard" duty everytime the company marched thru an intersection. I hated wearing those orange vests, LOL.

Hey JT. My daughter is at boot camp now. Certain divisions were given IPADs. They are able to email on Sundays. If it is found that those recruits study better on the IPADS, they will provide them for all recruits.

9999plato only boot camp is in great lakes. I'm used to that climate, my family used to live in the Navy housing. My dad used to teach fire fighting, dc1 20 years retired. But I'm requesting to ship out early anyway, or convert my rate to ship out early. But tougher conditions means building character lol

While it's nice to ship out early, don't switch to a rate you don't want just to leave. Stick with what you want and it'll be worth it! It's easy to change rates no but once you're locked in a contract, you have to wait a certain amount of time to switch if you end up not liking it.

I'm in DEP. Depends the reason as to why you are in it. I had to wait 90 days in DEP before getting an earlier ship date because I am a GED holder but scored really well on the ASVAB. My ship date is in December and i signed away in March. TIME FLIES! that's all you gotta know! give you more time to study and be physically fit before you go to have less of a hassle. I'm psyched to go xD

Went to MEPS Monday before last, loved the experience however I have to get a waiver for a surgery I had on my foot. Besides all that I had a lot of fun cracking jokes with the guys there. Hopefully I get to leave this year for boot camp.

Damn son I went through Paris Island in the 90's. 3rd Batallion way out in the boonies away from main side about 2 miles I'd say.That shit was night and day from Navy recruit training. School of infantry "SOI" was actually harder then boot camp only difference is you get weekend liberty. The fleet was harder physically but tons more freedom less screaming lol.

Remember the less item you have to inspect is less hits you take on a inspection. so it smart to have item in the laundry. If you have two tee-shirt then you can focus on those two to pass (ect...)

On one of our rack inspections, I remember alot of people in my division didn't do good and it pissed off one of the RDC's so bad he went to each of the racks and threw all of our stuff on the floor and we had 5 minutes to clean it up and we got beat for that. That was a bad day lol
