I found it so interesting how it seems like this book starts out with Haymitch waking up on reaping day with a younger sibling by his side right before he gets chosen...just like Katniss in the first book! These parallels go crazy! Super interesting considering how so many of us thought this book might take a totally different route. Seems like Collins will definitely be looking at two sides of the same coin in a bunch of ways. (Katniss and Haymitch, serpents and songbirds, etc.) March 18th literally could not come soon enough

Lenore is a Edgar Allen Poe poem & Dove is a color - his girl is COVEY! Also the cover for me symbolized Matthew 10:16, “be as wise as serpents & innocent as doves” so I was out here LOSING it! Guaranteed his bestie is Katniss’ dad & that’s who he’s gonna go meet in the woods (& then they’re gonna do some trades at the bakery & apothecary 😭). I’m NOT prepared, but I am. Ahhh.

I noticed this too ! It would be strange if Haymitch called his girlfriend by her full name twice in the same chapter, so it's probably her middle name, like Covey's !!! And if the theory according to which Katniss's dad was Maud Ivory's son, maybe he could even be Lenore's brother or her cousin. Imagine for a moment that Haymitch's girlfriend is related to Katniss, that would be HUGE !!

@theoriginalalan I think they’re siblings for SURE! I wonder if we’re going to get Gales fam tied into the Covey too! That’ll be interesting to say the least coz then it WOULD make them cousins!

I never thought about him having a younger sibling. I know he had a family but for some reason I just pictured parents.

I’m definitely more excited about this one than I was for book 4. I’m waaaay more interested in the backstory of Haymitch than Snow. This one might just be a gut punch though. 😢

At least Haymitch does have a happy ending of sorts. He has close friends in Katniss and Peeta. Not sure where his relationship with Effie would lead, but they're fond of one another. Mentally he'd still be scared for life, but he has people who genuinely care about him now. Which I'm not sure he had prior to the 2nd Rebellion. Johanna Mason doesn't appear to have any support around her at the end of the novels.
