12:49 This theme you’re referring to is actually the game’s main leitmotif. It’s first heard in the opening prologue music with the storybook. It's then heard when the game's title card shows up (the shot of the boat Mario travels in crossing the sea to get to Rogueport). This leitmotif wasn’t used a whole lot in the original outside of these three key sequences, but the remake quotes it a lot more and does more things with it.

I was originally worried about the new tracks but after playing and hearing them in their entirety. I have to say I almost like every new track over the originals. They certainly went heavier on the flutes and violins which gives it a hint of xenoblade or final fantasy flair but being an rpg I feel like it compliments it perfectly while still having that bouncy wackiness you expect from being a Mario rpg. Also they build up and have multiple sections to the tracks before looping which makes them feel more complete. The originals tracks were very short

I think the trouble with a lot of the music comparisons is that it’s contextualising the new music into the original. For example the last song you react to (spoiler ahead) I would argue that playing it in the remake actually had me more emotional than the original because for one there’s much more people in each area, so it feels larger-scale and also it is about everyone cheering Mario on to go and fight off the end of the world. So I feel it’s very appropriate. But of course, that’s my opinion, and you are of course allowed to feel how you feel about it! I just want to help in enjoying the new one more too haha

One of the reasons is that ttyd has a lot of electronic music and galaxy has orchestral music, but now ttyd had orchestral music as well. Glitzville is very interesting. I do think the original is better, but over time I've come to prefer the remake's. The original is like a goofy wacky carnival, while the remake is a lively Asian Festival. It makes me think a big event is going on, and the Asian elements of the location start to become more apparent. I think they could've kept some of the goofy-ness in there, but I am a big fan of the festival idea. I think a lot of the remake's songs aren't necessarily better or worse than the original, but rather a new take that I can enjoy. I could put both soundtracks into a playlist and shuffle them, and I would enjoy every single song. There are things to love about the remake songs, and there are things to enjoy about the originals... The remake _has_ made it hard in the sense that the originals don't contain the new bridges they've added to each of the songs. It feels a bit empty or short without them.
@MayroSMM4 ай бұрын
I generally do prefer the new soundtrack but I do find it a little odd that they didn't stick to the style of the originals like the Mario & Luigi remakes tried to do. Perhaps they simply didn't want to compete with the originals and that's why they took it in a different direction? Also, since you generally seemed to enjoy the "big in the original, gets bigger in the remake" songs, would love to hear your thoughts on more battle songs. Especially the new ones!
@PianistTanooki4 ай бұрын
That’s because Yoko Shimomura worked alone on the Mario & Luigi series, including the remakes. Though I do think she did deviate a bit from the originals with Superstar Saga. The Popple and Cackletta/Fawful battle themes deviated from the originals in their instrumentation. Also, the minigame music in Superstar Saga DX contains completely different themes entirely (taken from Dream Team and Paper Jam).

The rosa tinted glasses are huge in your opinion (which makes sense when it's someones childhood) but to each their own. I think the new soundtrack is in almost every track better than the original. And it's the same composer so I am sure the intention on the new one is the same since it's by the same person. But I am also biased since I love real sounding instruments and I also like "over produced" song.

The new version of rogueport sewers is fantastic the extra layer of tanginess you were talking about gives an ancient vibe to it. Which works considering you’re in an ancient city underground. Sub level 3 is my favorite and dare I say expands on the original because the games main motif is present which is reminding you,“yes, you are here but this is part of the bigger adventure” It’s wonderful. Sekigawa is a mad lad.

I still love the original Glitzville music the most, but I do still personally REALLY like what they did with the remake version. To me, it kind of represents what Glitzville is all about: It's a mix of a traditional, kung fu-esque 'train your way to the top' vibe, and a flashy, Hollywood entertainment vibe. Like, it strikes me as the EXACT type of music that would play at like Universal Studios or Disneyland if they had a kung fu themed area. I know it sounds like a lot of 'noise', but that's the bustling, busy Hollywood vibe

I’m so torn. The new soundtrack works much better as a grand return to Rogueport in Paper Mario Thousand Year Door 2. Like rogueport is a bombastic return to a familiar local. To be fair I think the reason they went with guitars for that final theme is because in origami king they also went with guitars and for it's climatic moments, and it's very clear this remake's soundtrack took clear inspiration from the direction origami king's soundtrack went towards and it's shocking you didn't cover the new battle themes considering you went on about the bombasticness of everything
@PianistTanooki4 ай бұрын
Origami King was primarily composed by Yoshito Sekigawa, who also primarily composed the original Thousand-Year Door music on GameCube, but was originally credited as "Yoshito Hirano" back then, before he got married (Japanese men sometimes change their surnames when they get married). He once again served as lead composer for the TTYD remake… so I don't think this is the sound team being "inspired" by the direction of Origami King… it's the fact that the original composer is retroactively applying a style that he honed in on with Origami King and reimagining his own stuff with said style.

I'm not really into traditional Japanese-sounding music either, but I think it's fair to introduce that vibe to the Glitz Pit remixes. If anything it's a shortcoming of the original that none of the music had that vibe despite the giant pagoda towering in the middle of the place. That said, still prefer the original Glitz Pit theme just 'cause the melody is totally drowned out in the remix. Bad execution.

At least the Nostalgic Tunes badge is there. I kept it on most of the time.

Second comment here, you happened to unfortunately pick a lot of tracks that were good in the original and didn't shine very much or at all in the remake. I have some better ones to reccommend: "A Brief Lecture" Some versions of "The Thousand-Year Door", notably the first version (simple one), the Diamond Star version (added piano) and the Garnet Star version (built up version). "Battle Theme". Not the classic one we know and love but amazing variations of it for specific instances. Some that stand out are: Unsettling Area, Chapter 2 and Chapter 6. "Super Luigi" "We're the Three Shadows!" "Pianta Parlor" "Pianta Parlor Minigame" Finally, there are some completely new tracks that in my opinion you shouldn't sleep on: "A Suspicious Black Chest" "Master of Action Commands" (ancient chinese music vibe similar to Glitzville beware! It's done much better here though and has more of an Autumn Mountain from Origami King vibe.) "Attack-a of the Whacka" and maybe each of the new themes for each partner! You don't have to make a second video of course, these are just recommendations/personal highlights in the OST.
