well it kind of goes, after wizard of oz, then before, then at the same time and then after. in the musical at least

kind of? the first act is before The Wizard of Oz and then in act 2 dorothy “drops in” but we follow elphaba’s perspective and everything that happened outside of dorothy’s story. some ppl like to think of Wicked as being “the true story” while the original The Wizard of Oz is the “propaganda” version told by the Wizard and Madame Morrible.
