I am a fan of music in general, watch KZbin analysis videos, follow the history of the bands and genres I like, etc. If I hear a song I like I go out of my way to follow up. When this happens multiple times with the same artist then I really know that I like the artist. On the other hand, when I can't associate a musician with an artist that I have likely been inundated with over long time periods, then that's an indication that I don't care for them personally, or just don't care for that genre. If I heard Ariana sing a jazz standard, then I am sure I would have said who is that, awesome?! But alas I am not a fan of pop music, or overly repetitious or simple music. With Ariana I have heard about her talent, and kept hoping that she would sing in a genre that I like, that at some point she would pop up and I would say who is that? This SNL performance was the first for me listening to her.
