Had a few conversations about gender-neutral honourifics (instead of sir/madam) on Twitter recently, and the general consensus (we're so British, lol) is to fall back on politeness. Instead of saying "thank you, sir" just say "thank you". It's not any LESS polite to not use an honourific when talking to someone... I'm cis and I'm not offended if someone doesn't call me "ma'am" or "miss".

This would be so awesome. But where I live (Deep American south) it is SO ingrained in everybody's head that leaving the sir or madam off is super rude. I'm a substitute teacher, and idk if the kids mean it rude, or it slips, or if they get vibes from me, but sometimes I get called sir (afab and not currently actively trying to pass) and they're like "oh I'm so sorry" {the kind of polite ones, anyway, sometimes I can catch them before they say sorry} and I'll be like "Hey, don't worry about it. I'll answer to either one" bc it HAS to be said, otherwise other teachers/parents/et cetera will say "Yes what ?" And the kid will say "yes ma'am" of "yes sir"
@hidingfromsomeone5 жыл бұрын

Let me tell you how my partner found out about her latex allergy. She had a severe reaction at the dentists so the dentist changed everything they used (gloves, pastes, etc) just in case. That didn’t tell her exactly what she was allergic to but she never had another reaction at dentist. Following this, her next reaction was at a doctors. Unfortunately for her it was the Gynecologist. The reaction was severe and localized if you get my drift. She reported back to the dentist that it was definitely the latex gloves and had the allergy entered into her medical charts immediately. A few years later she had her hair done and hadn’t even considered the gloves worn by the colorist would be latex. Welp, a few hours later she had a beautiful head of hair and fish lips.
@emrys43865 жыл бұрын
I found out I have fake-Latex sensitivity (which isn’t quite as weird as it sounds and it isn’t really a common material because this is a common issue from what I’ve heard) when I was in middle school and my Orthodontist had swapped over to the fake-Latex gloves and I basically broke out in hives on the inside of my mouth, but with braces they were scratched open all day and by the time I got home (since my appt was during lunch) I was bleeding from my mouth. Dad worries, but realizes what is causing the blood and gives me a Zyrtec and then calls my Ortho and just rails into the guy. Now I have to know which brands of “Not Latex” gloves can and can’t be used with me. I don’t see them very often- bc apparently this was kinda common- but they do show up every once and awhile.
@kiralonely4 жыл бұрын
Oof, I'm lucky in that I only get like irritated skin/itchy with no like bumps, and general discomfort. (I have a few mild skin allergies though tbf. Nickel earrings make my ears swell (common) and my skin green if via rings, and suuper itchy, and I can't put like face paints on unless they're specifically hypoallergenic. Not to mention those annoying bandaid shapes. Bandaids are so itchy, after like a good few minutes istg, I'm pretty sure that's not an allergy, but just grr. My cuticles basically peel and stuff all the time, and I'm generally prone to hand wounds (light ones, but worthy of bandaids.) along with acne issues. So I have to have bandaids almost constantly on hand just in case or I have a chance of bleeding everywhere lol. (More so from the acne, it bleeds heavier than I'd wish but for a short time, while other wounds usually just make it impossible to do anything without being in pain as I use my hands a lot, instruments, painting, drawing, etc.) Aka, my skin is picky and bratty. (Seriously though, I have dry skin issues where, when I was my hands, if I touch anything dry, it'll make me want to cry. I can't fold dry laundry, even if I haven't washed my hands or anything, without actually crying, because it hurts. It's not like sharp pain, it's almost like a mix of tickling soft discomfort or the sensation when you tense up your muscles and they tremble? It's achy soft sandpapery pain and I can't even touch myself or my clothes or anything at all, even lotion upon contact, without having that sensation. Lotion helps, but I have sensory issues and it's slimy and gross. Only few have been tolerable.) Also, bananas contain the same allergens as latex, from what I read, so that's why it's more likely that you'll be allergic to the other if you are allergic to one. Same with (using list I'm reading from) kiwi, avocado, chestnut, and passion fruit. (Not that you'll HAVE to have them, but you're at a higher risk of it.)

Always looked way younger than I am and never liked it. I was always condescendingly told "one day you'll learn to appreciate it lol". Just as I was starting to look my age... I'm to teach my friends to say "thank you, Soldier.' or 'Have a nice day, Traveller' I'm dutch so we don't really use pronouns after a greeting or something, but instead of ladies and gentlemen, madam, sir, I think using gender-neutral titles are mysterious and cool to use. I’ve got a couple that happened in the same week. For reference, I’m a really short AFAB and even when I’m assumed female I look younger than I am. I was buying milk at a gas station and the person working at the counter asked me how old I was and sounded really concerned, even though I was literally just buying milk. So you could say I got carded while buying milk. Three days later, I again get asked how old I am at a movie theatre because kids tickets. Kids tickets are 12 and under. I’m 17. Apparently I just looked particularly young that week.

This video made me laugh so hard!!! Ok this is just for fun but just this year I tried coming out to a friend who was a year younger than me. We were both in our high school gym watching a game and it was really loud in there. A formal dance was coming up and I told her I didn't want to go, my lame excuse was that the music wasn't gonna be good. She kept on insisting that I should go and I finally told her the reason why because I didn't want to wear a dress. My parents wouldn't let me go unless I was wearing one so I decided not to go. She still kept on persisting on me going so I turned to her and said I was trans. She paused and asked if I had said crayons... It was so loud in the gym she couldn't hear me. I gave up and just sat in silence. That reply gets me laughing so dam hard... CRAYONS!?

RandomArt Lizard you know that when you say “I hate something, but...” that you’re lying to yourself? You obviously do like correcting people, it gives you some kind of a buzz. This is a global network, and a lot of people are commenting who have English as a second language. In Germanic and Scandinavian countries a K is always used, they don’t have a hard C. It really doesn’t matter to understanding them at all. I’m a counsellor, and I enjoy correcting people who are not emotionally intelligent, and who don’t understand themselves or realise that their fake motives are clear as glass! Spreading better emotional intelligence and compassion for differences is what I do in life. Why do you think that spreading correct spellings is so important? I don’t see the value myself, but you might have been brought up to see it as a worthwhile judgement.

I am multi-gender and on my first day in high school, I needed to pee and there are no signs of boy and girl (the stools are colored differently) I went to pee on the girl's bathroom and I didn't know it was the girl's bathroom until a group of cis girls gossiped while I peed and I just thought "FUCK, how do I get out of here?" And the bell rang and the girls didn't get out, and I was (and still) kind of a nerd and was only late for class once in my whole year of school (each year I am late only to one class) so I just ran out of the girl's bathroom the fastest so they won't see who I am Shortly, the first (and so far only) time I peed in the girl's bathroom was a horrible mistake and it was so embarrassing I hope to get my bottom surgery as soon as possible so I can just go in girl's bathroom when I want and when someone says "excuse me, this is the girl's bathroom" I can just yell "You wanna see my Vegi*a? cuz I have one, so if this bathroom is for people with female genitalia, thank you, but I have those.."

Oh, I know the feeling. I just don't go to the gym anymore because I don't know what kind of chaos I'd cause by trying to flash my bare-ass vagina in the men's changing room. Like "It's okay guys, it's just inverted"??? It really sucks that trans people have to use body modification as the key to places we already belong in.
