I'm one of those naturals that get fussy with box braids around the 2 week mark but eventually get over it because I get used to the freedom of not having to do my hair. I end up keeping the style for about 1- 1.5 months. IDK when it happened but washday became so time consuming and mentally taxing that I stopped wearing my hair out even though that's when I feel prettiest. It might because I work and go to school so rarely ever have a day off so, on those rare days I have off, the last place I want to be is cooped up in the bathroom. (4c/4b low porosity) So… about the oil. My goal has always been to maintain my hair’s length in the healthiest way possible. When I was using oil after leave in, my hair seemed soooo much healthier! It grew at the same rate don’t get me wrong, but I had less split ends and my hair seemed shinier and held moisture way better. HOWEVER, my definition is better when I do not use oil. So I’d say oil is essential if your goal is length retention, health, not essential if you’re looking for definition. Just my opinion 🤷🏾‍♀️

Hey Isi. Hope you're well just wanted to say thank you for being you. You have helped me so much on my journey with self love and acceptance. Just a little back story, I grew up in South Africa in a community where having "nice"/straight hair basically defined your worth. And as someone with type 4 hair in a family filled with people who have "nice" hair I just remember always feeling low during my childhood. But luckily I was fortunate enough to find your channel during my early teens and through your easy to understand content I was finally empowered to do my big chop and learned that it's okay to be different because there's so many other people who look like me outside of my family. For the hair paint wax, it depends on the brand! The brand “Hair Paint Wax” and “Mofajang” (not sure if I spelled that right it’s 3am lol) have NO stain properties whats so ever because there’s no actual dye or loose color in it. It washes IMMEDIATELY. The brand the girl in the video uses must have some color depositing dye in it causing it to stain.

Hair paint wax doesn't stain so 2 speak but it does rub off on things

@@smithsonna035 i agree. But what it’s rubs off on, or in a lot of cases flakes, that color is very easy to wash away. The girl in the video was definitely not using that kind because it stained really bad into her fingers which I have never experienced with the wax brand I use. No clue which one she was using that left stains.

Oil doesn't do much for me besides add shine. It's an extra step I skip a lot. I have type 4b/c, very dense, low porosity hair.

Unless its olive oil, I don't use oil at all. All it does it makes my scalp itchy. I have fine, high porosity, 3c/4a hair.

YESS I am the same way with oil! I am 4b and I use a thin oil since I'm low density (grapeseed or sweet almond oil) to seal my braid outs and it helps my moisture retention ALOT, but for a washngo I wait until its dry smooth with oil because it does really mess with my definition FOR SURE! Also...I am armpit length with HEAVY shrinkage and I love me a half up with a claw clip *chefs kiss*.

Hey Isi! First off, I am literally OBSESSED with your videos! Whenever I have a break from studying I watch them lol. But I use Morrocan Oil in my hair whenever I style it, and my texture is 4a. For me, at least, my curls end up looking more defined when I add the oil after I put the curl cream, or curl enhancing smoothie on my hair

I ALWAYS use oil to seal my 4a/b hair high porosity (LCO method). It’s helped me retain length moisture and shine. I only use it if I’ve moisture with water though

I’ve done the hair paint wax and yeah I just used gloves. It didn’t seep through for me and I’ve used colors like purple and red. And once I had nails on so you should be good. And the wax helps the curl definition too👏🏽.

I love color wax. The Ashley Lee brand has stained nothing. Not my hands. My clothes, rugs or counters. I have every color except grey and I love it. That blue she used was so vibrant. Oh it was beautiful

First and foremost hope you are doing well with the loss in your family. Praying for you and your family. I’ve used the hair paint wax on my locs, and on my niece and nephews hair. That brand is actually really good and moisturizing. The blue is VERY pigmented so it was a little harder to wash off of my hands BUT a couple scrubs and it will go away in a few hours. It only sticks good on clean hair and makes the curls JUICY. It’s also a safe and affordable way to try color. And it doesn’t stain clothes.

I feel my "wash day" is very underwhelming compared to a lot of videos I've seen. Shampoo/conditioner, leave-in (cream or custard or mousse), comb and The End. Seems like people use a lot more products and just do a lot more. I'm also super lazy. 🤷
