@jon-paulhughes64458 ай бұрын
Nice reaction man, ultras are the most passionate fans of a teams football team, it goes back generations and you are born into it, can't change even though my team is doing pretty bad at the minute. Hopefully we will see good times again soon:)

Its not just football Its 100’s or 1,000’s of years of conflicts & rivalry culturally For instance England v Germany You then have grandparents and great grandparents that fought in ww2 Or further back Italy v Germany History would say rivalry goes back as far as roman conquests 113BC Theres more than just sports The us wont understand however one good rivalry would be South America

This is what happens when sports teams stay in the same place for over a 100 years or more. Of course you don't connect with an American sports team. Most of them never stay in the same place. Just look at the Raiders in the NFL. They were in LA, Oakland, now located in Las Vegas. Sports clubs in Europe never move and some are 100 years old or way older. A new stadium or arena might be build in another part of the city but the team, club or the venue will never leave the actual city it was founded in because it's part of the city's DNA

8:41 That's a Confederate flag. You don't have to think about it anymore. There is no racist meaning in that situation. Don't confuse America with Europe.
@LeyteLeyte-wd4bw3 ай бұрын
Yep! To Europe's fans - atleast most of all - it is a symbol for standing against the police and the burocracy, a symbol for freedom.
@benjaminbronnimann39668 ай бұрын
It's not just about football, when ultras are violent and fight the police it's often a reflection of the situation in their country and it's often in retribution to police brutality, in alot of countries with authoritarian governments and restricted or non-existent freedom of speech the football stadium becomes the only place where the people can speak their minds without having to fear consequences because they're protected from the police by their sheer numbers

The clubs are tied to the city and have existed for 150 years in some cases (From Father to Son). There are 2-3 clubs in larger cities. You choose your club once and you go to your grave with it. Never cheat!
@peetee73272 ай бұрын
Ultras are the ones, who do chants, choreos, pyro etc... Hooligans are the ones, who do primarily riots. Each team needs both of this groups. For us in Europe, football is like religion. We grow our kids with love to your team, passion and dedication. We just simply love it :)
@Jozua868 ай бұрын
Most people are representing their local team. It's not even about the sport, its about representing where you come from or what you stand for.
@benjaminbronnimann39668 ай бұрын
8:22 yeah it's kinda random but you still see the confederate flag all over the world even though alot of people who use it don't even know it's meaning, for example it was called "the rebel flag" where I grew up, I never knew it had anything to do with the confederacy until I was an adult, I just thought it looked cool on the toy soldiers when I was a kid 😂

Best way to describe the fanaticism of some groups is because the club that you support is part of your identity, which can be religious, political, social class, historical events etc. This goes over the entire spectrum of moderate to very extreme.. Often its something you grew up with, and is passed on from one generation to another. You got to be aware were you cant and cant wear certain colors and/or any recognizable club merch/clothing. Switching clubs also is considered to be a no no, or running away if you if you choose to be part of groups who are willing to either fight the police or like minded supporters of other (rival) clubs. Despite honor codes do exist, its not a guaranteed every one will abide by those codes. As Rinus Michels (a famous Dutch coach) once said " Football is war"; and he was right. The truth is also that in a lot of European countries governments have been cracking down hard on football culture, and most stadiums are perfectly safe to visit. With the exception of high risk games (often vs rival clubs), where you always need to pay attention to your surroudings, and a lot of stuff has moved away from the stadion to remote place for obvious reasons. Though it easily also still can kick of inside city or town centers.

In the 70´s and 80´s police was struggling to contain violence at stadiums in Europe. Late 80´s , early 90´s police started using CCTV to later arrest violent and instigators. That is why the use of masks now a days. Also is good to protect smoke breathing .. a bit . XD Cheers from Portugal!

Hey my friend it's not about the spot only! I'm a girl from Europe so I grew up in this shit 🥲 Ultras are die hard fans. Masks are to hide identity with police. Spot is very important. But Europe has a huge history too, many many wars ect Not every country is good with each other. For example in 10 years if Ukraine were to play against Russia I'm guessing it's going to be this lit! It's like in America during the 90s you had Este cost and West cost. Beef was on the next level, sooo we have that once in a while i guess 😁

yes football is a way of life. If your team doesn't perform then they will face the consequences. An angry fan base is like a mob. They will kill you. Football is ingrained in our society. American sports are not even on the same planet when it comes to this. BTW this is all over Europe.

The confederate flag most of the time that is used is simply because the club of these fans using it, is from the southern part of that specific country. Regardless of the flag though, some of the ultras groups shown in this video are completely racists or even neo-nazis

Ultras are political as well right v left often in the same city , I am Glasgow Celtic fan we hate rangers we really pro palestian and left wing we are organised with other left wing groups same on the right. Football in Europe is as close to religion as we get , when my father died I took his season ticket and I gave mine to my eldest son . It’s all identity and ultras are rebellious and hate authority but we hate the commercialisation of our sport .
