Such a replayable album. Beats are fantastic. Taking Trips is a song I play all the time. The musical setting of this album is so strange in a calming way. It kinda feels like walking around an abandoned amusement park while listening to a Walkman. Thats the best way I can describe it. Also the sample on Lakewood mall is so amazing to me, really wished he made it into a song😭

Lost my mind when I saw him perform it live. The song has an alternative outro that he hasn’t released and is impossible to find in good quality online. Still one of my most played tracks every year

This project blew my mind. The production was simple but amazing. Vince's rapping is slick, he'll say the darkest stuff in such a calm and dope way. Like the lines just sit with me.

The one problem I've always had with Vince Staples projects is the consistency from track to track. This album has no misses and is therefore his best album in my opinion

"Vince Staples is underrated" --Indeed he is, Indeed he is. Such a good project!
@IceKoldKilla6 ай бұрын
At the end of "MHM" I think he meant to say "On the dead homies" which is a common saying in LA like "Word is bond" by NYC people back on the 90s. It's like "I swear on my dead friends" or "Take my word for it" or maybe "I swear, on God..." Oh and he was giving directions for the hood. What part of Long Beach is the hood in his area. Basically don't turn down those streets. 😂

Vince Staples is literally the most underrated artist in hip hop. Artistically he doesn’t give a fuck what anyone thinks about him, and that gives the most authentic music, which is true art.

"The Apple & The Tree" has a slowed down version of the same melody used on the next track "Take Me Home". I know you're a Tool fan like myself so I'll say it kinda reminds me of how "Intermission" leads into "Jimmy" on Ænima. Same melody from the piano but sped up and then it's used by the guitar and bass but slower and obviously more elaborate.

I’m so happy you said Vince was underrated! All year I was saying this was album of the year when this shit came out in like February haha, I would try to put my friends and cousins on but they wouldn’t give this album a try, most of them enjoy Vince staples too so I thought it was wild that this album didn’t get the recognition it deserves.

Another all time fav of mine. You're very right about the paranoia/apprehension aspect that you mentioned in "Sundown Town" (so far only at that point in the vid lol). He seems to be rapping from a time where he's fully made it out but also has never felt fully comfortable because of where he's came from. Hense that weird feeling of being even slightly on edge

Vince is great at presenting 2 ideas in a song at once and intertwining them. Every part of his songs has 2 meanings and interpretations.

Kenny actually made the beat for "MHM" live on his stream so you could probably find a clip of it on youtube if you want to look into some of his creative process. Update: I found it, the title of the video is "KENNY BEATS - MAKING a quick HARD BEAT and PUT *PLAYBOI CARTI ACAPELLA" ON IT 🤯🔥 - LIVE (11/1/20) 💥🔥"

You NEED to watch the video of Vince Staples doing a live performance of a few songs from this. Kenny Beats was on an instrument and Fousheé did her chorus.

When Vince says 'dead homies,' its not *usually* a literal term. Its shortform of "on the dead homies" which is like "on god" or "on my mom," just proclaiming to be truthful.
