Even though Geoff has done his share of villains, I never expected to hear Geoff with such a black heart. It is stunning, evil, mesmerizing, and utterly unforgettable. It seems strange that Disney made a villain this dark for a movie that would have children in the audience.

I mean, they didn't really invent Frollo, they simply adapted the book, but yeah, I'm also surprised they went with adapting it. It's definitely not a kid-friendly book.

I'm guessing, but like a lot of things in other Disney films, a lot of it probably went over the kids' heads - they tend to put stuff in for the adults that they know will also be watching..?? Anywho - I love what VP did with this! 😊

Before they added this song in the movie(in 1996) Disney went through line by line with a fine tooth comb to make sure it wasn't too dark and they could keep a G rating on the movie. The also did the same thing with the script and visuals before it was able to be released.

Geoff has said in the past that he would never do this song, as he felt very uncomfortable portraying such a self-righteous evil man. However he made a great job of it. I find this so emotional.

One of the best reactions to this video that I watched so far. Especially for the "emotional" way of breaking it down. 🙂 Frollo is one of, if not THE, darkest, evilest villain in Disney's cartoons, at least that I know of. One thing that strikes me is how they, or Geoff, managed to kinda "save" as much humanity as possible in him to the very last moment. Oh, BTW, if you haven't already covered it, Geoff released his own Halloween song, "Jack's Lament" (from "Nightmare before Christmas", obviously 😁), and it's a beauty.... 🙂 See you next time!

You are one of the few reactors to commented on the torment that Frollo is going through. In the beginning, that choral portion goes into something like church bells tolling. It just emphasizes that Frollo sees himself as a righteous man. It’s one of the reasons I appreciate this version so much. Unlike you, I hated the movie. Frollo was a one dimensional twisted evil man in that movie. I did not see any humanity in him. But in this version you can see and hear his struggle. Just after Layne says “burn it”, Geoff sings “the fire within my skin” and as he’s doing do he’s staring at his hands like he’s as if he is confused by his mania. He blames Esmeralda , he blames the devil, and he even blames God. And then that descent into madness begins. And at the end he is truly consumed.🔥🔥🔥 I’ve always hated the character of Frollo but found the song to be beautiful and powerful in a very disturbing way. Because they didn’t only present the evil, Frollo almost seems human in their cover . There is so much to unpack in this. I had to listen over a dozen times before I heard some of the details like Geoff’s arpeggios while J is singing. And when the guard is telling Frollo that she has gone, you can hear her the BGV’s’s singing “gyp-sy es-caped”. (I had to listen to the karaoke track to verify that I hadn’t just made that up.) It’s just that my ears and my brain were full of everything else that was going on! And it wasn’t just rolling credits. If you had let it run you would’ve noticed that it’s the karaoke track which really can be a beautiful piece of music on its own. They started doing this a few years back.

You can tell the few of us capable of being obsessed over a girl in that we can understand Judge Frollo... although we do understand that burning down her home, killing her family, may not be the best way to go about it. This song takes what is already a terrifying song and makes it even moreso... a song sung by a man who cannot imagine wanting anyone else... no matter what he has to do.

Frollo doesn't have a good and an evil side...he has an evil and an eviller side. The "purity" he's begging for help preserving never made him a good person, it was just an excuse to look down on others.

I feel like.. frolo wanting someone to "love" is maybe.. giving him a little too much credit? Love definitely isnt his motivation 😅 at least thats never how I saw it.
