Winnie Harlow is a model who made a name for herself on America's Next Top Model alongside Tyra Banks and has spun that appearance into becoming a face of diversity within modeling on a global scale. She has a skin condition called Vitiligo, which she has become a public spokesperson and activist for, all while she has opened up the doors for models with skin conditions and given more visibility to regular people with the condition as well. She has appeared on magazine covers such as Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, & Harper's Bazaar while walking the runway for brands like Tommy Hilfiger, LaQuan Smith, Moschino, Jean Paul Gaultier, Schiaparelli, Marc Jacobs & Coach. And on top of that, she's walked the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show as the first model with Vitiligo.

You are too much - in a Good Way!! I usually fast-forward product sponsorship. Your intro was priceless - glad you said the word balls. I'm just at the point when you tell people not to put the trimmer where it doesn't belong. *Snort, Chuckle, Laugh.* Fabulous, now I'm going to break my rule and watch the whole 'unpackaging' of 'Manscaped' products.

About Winnie's success proving that it "doesn't matter what one has or doesn't have" ...I disagree, it proves that a beautiful woman with a skin condition can get a lot of work in spite, or rather because of it. But someone with more average looks will likely still face discrimination for it. That, of course, is not to say that I'm not happy for people like Winnie getting work - it definitely helps bring visibility to her condition and that's very valuable in itself. But we need to recognize that not everyone affected by vitiligo is as genetically blessed in most other aspects like she is.

this 7 days 7 looks was SO brand-heavy and discombobulated... didn't feel like we got a single interesting look, very little to no vintage, very basic iterations of well-known designers pieces... idk what i was expecting but it fell super flat for me

Louboutin soles are red because he was trying to create a shoe inspired by Andy Warhol’s ‘Flowers’. When the shoe arrived, he didn’t like the black sole. One of his assistants happened to be painting her nails in his studio, so he grabbed the polish from her and used it to paint the bottom of the shoe. The nail polish was red 💅🏼

This makes me aware of how branded all these Vogue looks are. Poor girl barely chose any of those clothes, makes me sad to know she probably felt pressured to wear what her stylist/brand manager wanted her to wear. How un-empowering. Her street style is almost exclusively pants, often military-inspired, jeans, tightly fitted, neutral colours, with boots - really suits her. The looks here are so branded, so brand new, manufactured almost. 9:18 She looked scared to say she wanted different shoes, plus was clearly just handed the bag along with the outfit. Another reminder that celebrity isn't very empowering.

The padlock necklace, as I'm not aware of any versions that are older, has its roots in Punk, made popular by people like Sid Vicious and Jordan- and considering both of their ties to Vivienne Westwood, I'm wondering if she had her own version around that time in the mid-late 70s. So whenever I hear people say various designers and jewelers having "done it first" it just makes me laugh.

“ appropriated” very strong word, designer are people too that live too. They see what’s going on in the world and then create collection pittino their own idea into it. they don’t take ideas out of a hat

@@sofypi7493 I agree with you, I wouldn't say appropriated either, more like adapted or recycled. Yes, punk encapsulated an entire subculture and reflected dissatisfaction and disillusionment in youth during the 70s and 80s and their push towards alternate forms of government and political philosophy, but it's not at all the same as appropriating from an ethnic or racial culture and the history behind taking from those groups.

Honestly, I did not enjoy Winnie Harlow's 7 days, 7 looks video: I would have prefered that she'd layered some more and accessorized better. Also, I just would like to say that those Louis Vuitton from the first look were brand new: because first time you wear a white stiletto it gets scratches and stains, but from the close up you could see that hers were immaculate, so much for a monday look. It kinda makes you wonder how much of this is actually her personal taste and how much is just sponsorization.

In 1670 an edict was passed by Louis XIV that only those in royal favor/nobility could have red heels on their shoes. It became a case of only the "cool" kids could wear them so it became very symbolic. The trend spread all across Europe and to England.

Don’t worry i know is obvious …..but i’ve been working in fashion in London, and they talk about "the continent" and looking at me for advising about taste in the hole rest of the continent….😂😂 i ended called them the islanders. When Vogue posted this, I commented that the Area dress is objectively too tight (and was totally pounced on) - it’s very visibly pulling across her hips and also looks like there could be way more than a nip slip if she bent over. A size up would still achieve what she’s after without looking too small. The way she talks about her clothes - the exclusives, having things first, her closet being full of new items she’s never worn - is really off putting. Some modesty wouldn’t kill her. Also, curious how she gets into/out of cars and sits down when almost everything would barely cover underwear.

While I think the Dior necklace is costume, Dior and Chanel do have Fine and High Jewelry.

5:47 and they were wearing red heels thanks to Monsieur, Louis XIV’s brother, who decided to party in Paris in 1662 next to the Saint Innocent Cemetery and the Great Butchery. According to historians, he stepped on a puddle of blood and went back to Versailles with his shoes covered in red. Then, the courtiers took over the “look” 🌝

The tom browne look needed a tiny shoulder bag. Something like a mini lady dior. That or go full gossip girl and do a sac du jour.

Louis Vuitton is not the only designer that uses red on the souls of their shoes. There’s a brand called Freebird (by Steven) that uses red soles as well. However, I’m fairly certain this is an American brand, so the inspiration/reference probably isn’t the same.

@@shaylataylor9525 Thanks for the correction. I think I originally typed just “Louboutin” and my phone corrected it to Louis Vuitton (for some reason) without me catching it.

Neutrals are different for black people. (I know that sounds crazy 🤪, but hear me out!) Whites and greys and blacks are desaturated colors that don't compete with the person... the pale skinned person. For people with more color in their skin, more color can exist in their clothes and still be the "neutral" desaturated non-competiting colors. It's just like black and brown women have to have more color in their makeup to get similar looks.
