I get your point about “the best X in the world” but it reminds me of the conversations around who companies work for. So many people say companies work for the shareholders, which they do but the companies act states ‘shareholders present and future’. I think we should be looking at football in the same way. Particularly with regards to Arteta. Is he the best in the world? Both currently but also longer term. I think that’s why people defend martinelli because mbappe would be obviously be amazing but would likely feck off 2 seasons later having caused massive unrest in the team whereas martinelli could well be just slightly worse but be loyal and part of a cohesive unit. That said, much thought I like him, I don’t think the same argument can be reasonably made for trossard and he feels like a player we really should be open to offers for.

I genuinely think Timber will be in the running for PL Player of the Season. I know we only saw him for 20 mins against an Everton side that had nothing to play for. But the second his feet touched the grass he was by far the best player on the pitch. Considering that's his first performance since his ACL injury that's actually pretty insane.

Everyone questioning whether Martinelli is good or not but no one is looking at the fact that Zinchenko was dog shit the entire season, No LCM was a consistent starter until the end of the season and there is no support for Martinelli on the Left Wing whereas Saka has had the same RCM and RB in Odegaard and White for more than 2 years. All heat maps for Arsenal keep showing Martinelli alone and isolated at the LW whereas all the play, passing and chance creation happens at the Left Side. No consistent LB and LCM playing regularly and we question the guy who had 15 Goals in the league alone in 22/23. He is a great player and will succeed if given some support.

I think we need a 2 up top with one playing off the other, so martinelli playing more narrow with Havertz, like Henry and Bergkamp, Saka like ljungberg, left side is a question mark but rice like Vieira (Patrick) and saliba like Toure, Gabriel like Campbell

I think not only was Marinelli's season not as bad as everyone makes it out to be but I think his ceiling isn't that far out of reach. He was left on an island and yes, Trossard did well to score when he took the starting position but that was right around the time Rice really started to embody that left 8 role where Nelli had to deal with Havertz there for the most part. Nelli subbed in for Saka a couple times but I think he only started on the right the one time but in that match, he almost looked like his old self. He obviously wasn't doing the intricate give-n-goes that Saka does but he hasn't/hadn't built up that chemistry with Ode and White, either. If he had even half the help on the left that Saka gets on the right, we'd still be talking about him the way we were the season before when he outscored Saka (in the Prem) and if we get a 9 in there that has presence in the air, his assist numbers would skyrocket, as well. SO many times his crosses would come in and there'd just be nobody there to receive them. There's always an element of "buying" involved with winning at this level but it's less special when your team just buys all the "best" players. Buying gems like Nelli and nurturing talents like Saka are why Arsenal fans are more loyal and dedicated to their players. Yes, that makes winning harder but the harder something is to earn the more worthy you are of it when you do, and it'll be more special having been so.

He did at least twice as well as you just made it out to be and if goals were the ultimate tally of a players success, there'd be a whole lot of very unsuccessful wingers. If I were to ask you how many goals Doku got in the prem last season, how many would you say? Everyone would agree his season was better than Martinelli's but, by your standard, he did about half as well as Martinelli because Doku only had 3 (I'm pretty sure) goals in the prem to Nelli's 6. Doku's g/a was only 1 higher than Nelli's in the prem, in fact. Nico Williams Jr (the guy everyone is talking about these days) had a mere 5 in La Liga, last season. I think Lamine Yamal had 5 as well; surely their seasons were miles better than Martinelli"s, right? It was bad but considering his isolation and the missed games and games he didn't start in; it wasn't nearly as bad as everyone assumes. Including you.

There is a question of why is the left side of the England team not working in Euros. That is kinda the same answer for the last season of Arsenal. (inverted LB + with no support)

@@MickDarcy it is probably not that simple, it depends on the player who is playing there, and who is up front. if you look who played on the right side and who played left. Saka, White, Odegaard played over 90% of the games. On the left there were 3 LB and only 1 was actually LB (in not so great form), in the mid left there was a mix of Rice, Havertz and others.

I disagree with Timber's analysis, Timber is a baller and he has a very strong mentality. If we can get calafiori then I would prefer a back four of calafiori, Gabriel, Saliba and white then play Timber in defensive midfield in some games to allow rice more freedom offensively.

As we have shown we can be ruthless with Ramsdale etc, I think that focus should be placed on Arteta, I do not believe he is capable of winning and maintaining a winning team. He just does not rotate, we have a more than capable squad, Not enough minutes for ESR, the purchase of Vieira, Lakonga, Tavares show he tries to buy, rather than look at youth! Omari Hutchinson was fantastic in our youth team, never given a chance. Arteta wants robots, not flair.
