For me, the biggest appeal of Miku figures (even the taito and bicute) is that a variety of freelance and industry anime illustrators contribute to designing them. I see her figures as a way for these artists to showcase their skills through a well know character. While each figure does look slightly different, each design is so characteristic to the artist in charge. it’s a pleasure being able to consume and appreciate it in 3D. Plus I’m sure these artists are happy to have the opportunity like this to share their work with the world. I’m not a huge miku/vocaloid fan but I think the nature of her character background plus design for miku herself makes for a great canvas. Her look is extremely versatile; she can pull off many moods and aesthetics that can appeal to many tastes and niches. Nowadays I don’t really see her as a "vocaloid", but rather a creative canvas and an ubiquitous icon for anime fans. From the software to the figures, miku makes a great impact on the creative community in many ways so I hope her figures don’t stop. Edit; great video btw! I just discovered your channel. Im an on-off figure collector for a very long time. Your enthusiasm really re-sparked my love for figures!!

I feel it's a bit unfair to judge someone for wanting only figures of one or few characters. There's many people who have "comfort characters" or the like and feel genuine joy getting a new figure of them. Seeing this one character in different ways and styles is cool! I collect Sakura Miku exclusively because I love her design and I want my collection to fit in with my very pink room. Hatsune Miku is really important to me as she was a huge part of my life growing up, and Sakura Miku is just perfect for me. I wish she got more designs like Snow Miku did, but even so I kinda like the consistency in my collection. basically maybe let people collect what they want even if it's not your thing. Don't make me bring out the squirt gun 🔫

@@ehy1476 Yeah, usually people collect figures of characters because they like the character. It's fine to collect them for whatever reason you have (because collecting things is a very personal hobby and nobody should have to meet specific criteria to be a 'proper' collector) but acting like people are somehow being dumb when they know what they want to collect and can do so,,, idk that's a bit. Nendoroids used to be pretty consistently good quality (for the most part). But they were mostly $40-50 usd max then too. Today, they’re more expensive AND have less accessories. (I’ve been in this hobby since 2012, so I’ve seen many changes. haha) Also, I loooooove the first Bicute Bunny Miku. Those adorable twin buns are enough to for me to overlook the tights seam. lol I also.....enjoy Q Poskets. But ONLY for female characters. But I love Pullip dolls and they kinda remind me of them. Sorry for the really long comment. I really enjoyed this video and apparently had a lot to say!

I actually don’t mind that there are so many sabers and mikus. Their designs are basic, but allow room for creative interpretations that lead to some immaculate figures. For example, the Halloween Miku by Union Creative. Or the various forms of saber (alter/lily+class variants ), plus they can add more themes on top. The problem with Rem is that figure companies tend to stick to the maid motif and never really experiment outside of it. Her hair is also really short (and in a very specific style that I personally think is ugly but unique) like even with different clothes it’s harder to make her stand out. Even Crystal Dress Rem wouldn’t stand out much without that over the top base+dress flow. It’s mostly the maid thing though

I used to buy bootleg figures because my budget was pretty tight and I work in an industry that is severely underfunded. That being said, I've stopped buying bootlegs because I've now applied the philosophy "Quality over Quantity" to my collection. I'm the type of person to want a lot of things made up in my collection, so the more the merrier. But at the end of the day, my hobby involves collecting figures that genuinely looks like the character I love. It's my own little personal art gallery. Plus, as far as I'm concerned, these figures take a lot of time and effort to make, so I'd like to support whomever was involved in the process. I will never judge somebody who only buys bootlegs because I know it's mainly due to money concerns. But, I'd also challenge those people to save up the $100 they used to buy 3 bootlegs and spend it on a real figure to notice the difference in quality whilst also funding this industry which we love!
@hrafnhilduraldansdottir29833 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you said (after debating for a long time if bootlegs were worth it-since I don’t make a ton of money either). I bought only one bootleg figure and ended up putting it on the dashboard of my car because I don’t care if the sun deteriorates it, but I also get a cool figure for road trips to keep me company! Other than that I’ll never buy another bootleg.
@xaki65452 жыл бұрын
No shame to those who knowingly buy or collect bootlegs. My main concern is how much it hurts the second hand market. It becomes much more difficult to know you are getting the genuine article and can lead to some scummy practices by scammers. TLDR: Charging $15 for a clearly marked bootleg = Mostly OK Charging $130 for a bootleg disguised as the original = NOT OK

Agreed. also... Real figures, majority of the time, can be sold for a bit less, exactly, or way more than what you brought it for. I'm someone who's bought a lot of Miku figures, and I wanna try and explain a perspective why someone might do so. For me, it's because I've ALWAYS wanted to buy Miku figures since I started listening to Vocaloid back in 2007, but I couldn't afford to from elementary and into and through university. Now that I'm an adult with a full time job and enough money to finally start my collection, and because I'm not terribly interested in *that* many other characters, and there are SO many fantastic Mikus, I personally started off my collection this year by buying a bunch of prize Miku figures and a couple of my grail scales. In the end I'd really like to have more variety, but for now I just enjoy having a couple shelves that are all a consistent color, have interesting and dynamic poses, are accessible, and have really fun and cute faces. Eventually I do plan to get more, but I also like figures I spend a lot of money on to be really future proof so I don't become disinterested in the series or character, so Miku for me is a character I know I'll continue enjoying for years. There are some figures I'd love to buy of characters I don't even know, but that kind of thing just isn't in the budget for now.

And as far as bootlegs go I really feel like it does suck when people get dragged for having bootlegs especially when people just want a thing that would bring them joy but can't afford 300+ dollar figures. I get all my Figma from eBay I've only ever accidentally bought one bootleg and she was fine. Eventually, I bought the authentic figure but yea it really isn't that deep. And these major corporations will be fine. OH and also I wasn't able to add my own unpopular opinion but I need these companies to start making more quality figures of diverse characters with darker skin tones. I'm tired of my fav characters not getting love because they aren't fair skin popular characters. I ain't arguing with nobody either lmao

I low key love bootlegs purely because I have kids who want to have cool figures like I do but I'm not giving my 11 year old a pricey figure. So the bootlegs are good for introducing my kid into collecting figures and taking care of them, but it's not a big deal if they break or otherwise damage one since it's so cheap. But other than that, there isn't much of a reason to buy bootleg figures since there are many cheaper figures out there. Pop Up Parade is a god send in my opinion for that reason.

They're fun to play with when I'm bored at work, remind me of my childhood, and allowed my dad and I to share a common interest in action figures. He has a large collection of DC and Marvel superheroes that he's been collecting for years. He even has a few anime FIgmas and SHFiguarts as well because of me lol. I absolutely adore my large scale figures and love staring at them but that's pretty much it. Nothing beats fiddling around with figures and having them do some fun and wacky poses. It's funny to hear how hated they are in this community.

I didn't care for Rem figures at all until I watched Re:Zero; now I obsessively collect them. I think some of the hate we see for Re:Zero, Rem, and Rem-philes has to do with how popular she's become. I actually went through a phase when I was younger where I decided I hated my favourite books (The Lord of the Rings) precisely because Tolkien had become mainstream. I like to think I matured out of that by deciding that it didn't matter to me how popular something might be, rather, it only matters if I like it or not. Nonetheless, we collectors are often elitists, even if we're closet-elitists, and one primary component of elitism is that it necessarily decries anything popular. Oh, well...

@ViNguyen-jn7ty3 жыл бұрын
I agree with your comment on the bootleg versus authentic figure. I think people who are on the budget would love the prize figure or even pop up parade figure selections if they want to support their favorite artists even to the minimum. Prize figures are very simple, but some of them actually looks pretty decent for their price point. It’s not perfect (paint job and etc) just like the bootleg version, but it would support the artists I would think? I’ve bought a lot of prize figures which I’m planning on selling once I find new scale figures that I would love since I have a good job to afford that. If anyone in the US would like to find prize figure for a good price. I would recommend Hot Topic or Box Lunch since they do have a pop culture selection of popular and classic anime figures on sale sometimes that I’ve ordered from them before for like 15-25 dollars depending on the sales. But I don’t judge people for getting bootleg figures. I do have some bootleg that my non-weeb friends would give me for my birthday that I keep because it really shows that my friends love me enough to try to get me something anime related. They don’t know about the bootleg situation, but I appreciate them getting out of their way to find something I would like.

I used to regularly collect nendos in 2012-2013 and it's really disheartening how much the quality has dropped over the years. In addition to the price going up by about 20 bucks when they used to be the standard for cute, posable and affordable figures. Especially because many times your only option for a nice figure of a character without paying aftermarket prices is getting a Nendoroid. That's still the case now I feel but sadly the price has gone up and the quality is no longer a guarantee. I've trimmed down my nendo collection a lot but I still have about 15 I really love

I don’t understand the obsession with Rem, either. She’s moe bait-she’s cute rather than beautiful, her personality is more submissive than the other Re:Zero girls, she wears a maid outfit, and she gets her heart broken in a particularly poignant fashion. I don’t see the appeal personally, but Re:Zero fans go completely nuts over her. I don’t want to diss other people’s waifu, but she just seems like a really boring, overrated character to get such a huge variety of figures. At least Miku’s diversity has its base in the insane variety of songs made with her voice bank. The biggie for me is that I’m not opposed to bootlegs. Of course I vastly prefer the originals, and I will buy them when possible, but sometimes it just isn’t feasible. I live on a shoestring budget, and I can’t afford the really nice figures I salivate over (I would *kill* to add that gorgeous figure of Kusuriuri-san lounging in the window, since I love Mononoke and he’s one of my holiest grails). But if the bootleg isn’t terrible and it’s much cheaper, then I don’t mind picking it up. I also find I prefer male figures to female. The females are beautiful or cute, sure, but so many of the male figures are, too. Most of my favorite characters are male, and it irks me that specific guys tend to be nonexistent or difficult AF to find. Reverse harem/otome characters, for example, are really hard to find in figure form and when they are available, they’re so expensive. Hakuoki, for example, has gorgeous figures of the guys available (but AFAIK only Souji has a nendoroid), but the prices make them a once-in-a-blue-Moon purchase, and Diabolik Lovers only has two figures available (but they’re the two guys I like the least T_T). Even Kaito, my favorite Vocaloid, has way less figures than his peers and Gakupo only has a single nendoroid, not even a full figure! Meanwhile, freakin’ Luffy and Goku have like a thousand figures (and I hate both One Piece and DBZ!), and even they tend to be kind of boring in their presentation, with a few exceptions. It would just be nice if more guys got the same sort of attention lavished on them as the female figures.

I'm kinda only intending to buy Hatsune Miku figure as she was the first Vocaloid character I saw (I think I saw her from an MMD or song) and I remember trying to dress up like her. I'm wanting to collect her as she was almost like my childhood comfort her and she's absolutely amazing. Yesterday I got my first Miku figure for $36.99 AU dollars (Found her in Westfield Carousel in Minitopia as she was the probably the only figure when I saw her in the window) and I lover her to bits (She's the 2020 UKYO bike racing figure) not mention it was a cheap price. I also saw maybe a nendroid figure of Hatsune Miku which I hope my uncle gets for my birthday.

Unpopular opinion: Bootleg versions existing are good for the consumer because they help keep in check the manufacturing quality and price of genuines as well as force manufacturers to provide provide reasonably priced options.

i don't understand when people say nendoroids are hard to put together/the pieces fall off 🤔 i own five and never had this kind of problem... i find changing their faces and poses relaxing
@A-XIII3 жыл бұрын
I own 49 of them and I've had SO many problems. Lol they're really hit or miss with how things fit. I also think this is general to any posable/interchangeable parts figure, not just nendoroids.
@nooza42293 жыл бұрын
I only own two but the difference in quality is weirdly obvious. My Ye Qiu nendoroid was really difficult to put together and the cigarette he holds always fell down (now I've just lost it, so sad!). On the other hand, I really love my Kaitou Kid nendoroid since it comes with so many accessories and feels really sturdy.
@hanibee87293 жыл бұрын
I own 19 nendoroids and I think quality control goes up and down all the time. I've never had an issue with my 6 vocaloid nendoroids, but I have had issues with Roy Mustang, Tinkerbell, and Armin. I've seen people showing off bad paint jobs on new ones a lot lately. I think the prices are going up and the quality isn't.

Such a fun video to watch again. I never expected my opinion to be featured, thank you! Hearing your reaction I see where you and others are coming from :) And to add to the 1/4th scale discussion, I really wish that they would make some of the bunny figures into 1/7th scale to match better with my other figures

I think the hype for miku is because she is cheap-ish (in my opinion). I saw a 500 dollar AOT figure and I was like f no, I could buy me half a house with that. Not to mention she is SUPER popular in Japan and people might only want to collect a particular character.

Unpopular opinion: not liking bunny girl figures doesn't make me a prude. I am a kinky dude, I just don't find bunnies to be a sexy thing. Just because I don't find some ears and a tail hot personally doesn't mean I'm anti-bunny girl figure, either. There is no pro vs anti bunny girl war.

little info on resin statues: Oniri and tsume are french resin/polystone statue manufacteurs they mostly do anime/manga statues in 1/6 scale. Then you have sideshow who does comics/ starwars statues in 1/4 and lastly asian manufacteurs like Xm studio (comics) /prime 1 comics/anime) /queen studio , they do 1/4 and 1/3 scales most of the time, Tweeterhead very nice 1/6 comic statue for an okay price. Paint quality depends alot of the compagny (painter, quality control like for pvc figures) some compagnies cometimes do resin statues with pvc heads , like the new 1/4 bruce lee statue by blitzway, i think is because you have better human ressemblance than with polystone. But the best of best quality (ressemblance) out these days in my opinion are the silicone statues in 1/3 or 1/1 busts , by compagnies like queen studios , jnd and infinity studios mostly marvel and dc comics. (bit creepy tho) I on the other hand collect resins and pvc figures , i try to stick just to 1/6 anime resins tho, because it takes a lot of space (statue and boxes...) and can be pretty pricy ranging from 400dollars for 1/6 scales to 4000/6000 dollars for silicones busts. If anyone is intressed in resins (comics) , you should checkout Dcx statue channel. hope it helped you understand a bit more.

I agree that posable figures are for the most part pretty lame but the exception is Medicom’s Real Action Heroes line. They are super nice and most have clothing hiding the joints. The AoT ones look incredible and I love the Madoka ones as well. They’re also plenty big at 1/6 scale. Too bad they never get rereleased. Some of the Jojo ones are insanely marked up.
@EagleVision19993 жыл бұрын
The older ones at least had plastic that would deteriorate over time at the joints, though. I had L from Death Note and he pretty much fell apart, even though he was kept only in his box. Volks Dollfie Dream are better for anime characters.

If you find Medicom interesting, take a look at ThreeZero or Hot Toys, likewise some third party companies like Bigfirebird, TungMung EX etc

Her face when someone said that Chika ain't the best character/waifu lol 😂 I've never seen love is war so can't say anything about it, but Chika looks cute in the ending song ! And a unpopular opinion of mine would be that most of the time the variant color of figures are better than the original even tho they aren't anime/mangá/etc accurate
@nameunbekannt32203 жыл бұрын
Only (probably) unpopular opinion I have is that you don't need to watch the series or play the game where the character is from if you like a figure.
@gabrielarenas97333 жыл бұрын
First4Figures used to be one of the few places you could get decent quality scale statues of certain video game IPs in North America and Europe. Think Zelda, Okami, Viewtiful Joe ... I think they used that fact to their advantage by mass producing these statues with lower quality compared to other manufacturers. The paint and texture quality of their statues have improved since then, but I would still never recommend them to new collectors.

I’m not the type to buy anything that reveals too much like bikini or lingerie( bunny’s are exceptions), but I really like an “elegant” figure with a nice and detailed dress so wedding dresses are okay with me. Especially 💙Rem(I don’t self insert myself with her. She belongs to Subaru already lmao). Personally, I would love a wedding dress figure of Rem. Kinda like the new zero two wedding, but with Rem’s morning star.

The thing with polystone (statues) is that it ages so much better than PVC since polystone could hold up against the heat and sun.
@jacobhoward72883 жыл бұрын
I did order the F4F statue of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Though you kind of have to as there isn't much out there if you want a Blue-eyes. I actually like Polystone, it takes on texture better than PVC. That being said PVC is better for anime characters, as it has that smooth bright look that reminds you of the anime. But polystone is the way to go for the real people look (Thor, Cap, Hulk) and textures like dirt, hair, grit, ect.

About bootlegs: I have one because the figure was no where to be found and I REALLY wanted it. I couldn’t buy the real one even though I wanted to, so I don’t really see the harm in buying a bootleg of it. I know it’s not right but I mean….there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism anyway

Just found your channel. Great videos 👍. I do want to share my opinion on pvc vs poly stone statues. I went through stages of figure/pvc/hot toys and statues. Honestly you get what you pay for. You need to see a poly stone statue in person before giving factual opinions. Resin statues are fantastic and by far more detailed in every way. The size, weight and shading detail are crazy in person. I will say f4f is a mediocre statue company. Look up companies like sideshow collectibles, Xm studios, prime 1 studios, tsume etc…

I only pay for figures I really want. When I want it and can afford it, the price doesn't matter all that much. That being said, I only have very few characters that I actually want to own and the figure has to resemble the character enough AND has a nice pose/is posable. I end up not paying too much on figures at the end of the day. Honestly I wouldn't call myself a collector. I'm just buying things that could make me happy while looking at. It's like buying a regular decoration or a cute stuffed animal of the sort. I'm not actually trying to collect, technically speaking.

I stumbled across your channel some videos ago and finally decided to sub today! I'm honestly surprised you don't have more subscribers yet though, after all, both your production quality and the topics you're talking about seem to be much higher standard than what one would expect from a small channel. Anyway, great work on your videos so far, keep it up! :) On a side note, I noticed that I knew your background music from somewhere and couldn't place it at first, but then it hit me: It's the same one the boys from trashtaste are using, isn't it? Kinda fits the whole vibe you got going as well though, so good choice there, just made me chuckle for a sec. Edit: Also, if you like statues, check out prime1studio's stuff, they make super high quality figures, though the price is just equally as high^^

My 1/6 scale figure Alita from Hot Toys is highly posable and there are no visible joints. Plus her quality is fantastic. You can watch her on KZbin. It's really something very different to normal static scale figures. I'm not changing her pose since I put her into a display box but the possibility to adjust her to your most wanted pose is great. So posable figures are not only figma-like mini figures but scale figures too. Edit: Bootlegs are not fine in any case!

someone said that the fishnet bunnies actually discolor on the legs over time. actually, if you watch some of the you tube videos about a one bunny figure bootleg is actually really good. like there making the bootlegs alot better than it use to be. and i had to get rid of my defolts because i was looking into them and their glass can shatter in time, or they said it shattered one day. and no one was even around. so i just was like nope and gave it away. if you want to keep dust off or dust your figures use an air blower for cameras, it would help when you wish to dust them.

I really loved this vid, I think you should do more of these! 💕Also maybe a "figures YOU want that don't exist" video in the same viewer reponse style?! ✨ Also, I completely disagree with your BiCute bunnies opinion. I have always wanted a bunny suit figure, but the FREEing bunny figures are sometimes too boring (and this is from someone who prefers the classic bunny suit) to be worth $300 aud/cad + imo, so the release of the BiCute bunny prize figures made me so happy! I'm obsessed with bunny girls, but I simply can't afford the FREEing ones, and I don't like how you compared them as if they're even in the same ballpark. And complaining about them being "overhyped" makes me a little sad because not everyone can afford a $300 scale bunny, so of course everyone is going to be excited by a $30 version :( I don't think collective excitement is "overhype", I think it's justified hype over a pretty great quality figure for literally a tenth of the price! I've seen a few that I wish I had the room/transportation for, that were at 50% off on the last day and would have been $150 and were the equivalent of three Detolfs, but have a nice wood finish.

@RazarOmni2 жыл бұрын
I agree with action figures being better than scales because you get more out of it. There isn't only Figma, S.H or JoJo action statues out there. Stuff like Hot Toys and ThreeZero do a fantastic job by making their action figure collectibles look even better than scales, and they are 1/6 scales too, and in ThreeZero's casse, they have a premium scale as 1/4 around that. Secondly, the joints are also very well hidden on many action figures, it is just figma's or S.H's human lines that have that problem. For example their Bandai's SIC or Makai Kadou line do not have that problem. And on third party shit I don't want to start, as they are often better than the licensed ones, example being Tungmung EX Diecast X Antibody Digimon line being 1000 times superior to their Bandai counterpart. Lastly, the user said it the best - The material is often just better with diecast metal frames or parts. I could never imagine myself spending 500 for a simple bunny figure or just a cool looking scale if it isn't Prime1 or some equal company. From a action figure, I get more out of it: Poses, Accessories sometimes, customization and Diecast parts.
