Whenever this debate of plastic surgery comes up, I always think back to the “Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge” and how girls were literally bruising their faces trying to look like her because she insisted for the longest time she never had work done. Like sis, it’s obvious you went under the knife and it’s whatever. But when girls are naive enough to think they can get big lips naturally like that is insane.
@Ali_D_Katt4 жыл бұрын
If you're going to promote or develop/sell a product that supposedly enhances the attribute you had plastic surgery on you have to disclose that is slimey and underhanded. For example Kylie with her lip kits or her skincare line she has had her lips done and she uses products and contraptions on her face that are inaccessible to a normal person. She's not getting that skin using only her own skincare line and it would be bullshit if she implied so. If you aren't in a field that you are trying to influence people to try to obtain your look that's fine. If you craft or play video games on youtube it would be weird to bring up your fake boobs.

I’m in the medical field and I don’t understand why people think body positivity and obesity having certain health consequences are mutually exclusive concepts. It’s not as if people can (or should) just suddenly lose a bunch of weight in a day so how does it make sense to say that people somehow deserve to be miserable and shamed until they do so. And healthy weight management is a privilege in itself on so many levels, from financial to medical to simply having the time and energy. Even for myself, by medical standards I could probably stand to lose a couple pounds but instead I’m working 90 hours a week at the hospital. More often than not, your college experience is based off of what you make of it, and sometimes I think people (mostly young high school students who feel like they HAVE to attend a well-known university to prove their worth) think that just because they go to “____” school means they will graduate with 20 job offers lined up

Anyone who uses the “I just care about their health” excuse clearly doesn’t care about that persons mental health. Someone can’t lose weight if they kill themself after you call them fat. And yes, it can be that serious for some people, so don’t try to justify this in the replies.

Weight does not equal health and health does not equal a person's value. Someone's appearance should not be an automatic judgement of health, and health should not be the pinnacle of a human's worth. Stress, worry, and self-loathing have far more negative impacts on our health than weight does.

About college. It isn’t accessible for everyone. Black, brown, and indigenous students have a really hard time in the American education system and job market. Black women were “the most educated group in America” but one of the most underpaid coming out of school. I think college is great but it’s a privilege and a gamble not everyone can afford. That’s why people are less inclined to promote America’s broken college system. I wish we had free community college like other places :(
@ambernicole.4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think that’s necessarily true. There’s a ton of scholarships and grants available to POC and other ethnicities that have opened many doors. And I think women in general are underpaid. Also, when I job hunt on indeed like nearly every job is only willing to offer $15 an hour and want a college degree.. I think that’s a huge problem because you can’t live off of that. A decent one bedroom is 1,000 a month. Add all bills, utilities, groceries, and student loan payments?? It’s one reason I stopped going to college. Not worth it to get a degree when your almost slapped in the face with $15 an hour pay.
@CA-pr2gp4 жыл бұрын
@@ambernicole. I disagree. Rather I think the issue is not getting into college, but not being payed as much when you get out. Search up racial wage gaps White women are payed around 70 cents on the dollar, while black women are payed 64 cents and native women are payed a mere 50 cents.

The idea of higher education is wonderful and everyone should be able to explore specialized topics from the world around them. That being said, the system that we have is total bullshit and I don’t blame people for hating it. It’s not about the education. It’s about the astronomical prices and getting trapped in financial ruin after attending, or how difficult it is to get in depending on who you are and where you’re from. It’s total bullshit.

You’re right in general but saying “no other country obsesses over fabric like America does” is demonstrably wrong. Off the top of my head, look at how much people in Brazil love their flag. Also, it’s not illegal to burn the US flag (even if people will get really offended if you do and trump, of course, seems to want to make it illegal), but it IS illegal to do that in France, for example. Americans can absolutely be obnoxious with our flag (and god, it’s annoying), but we definitely aren’t the only ones.

Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death in the US, after tobacco use. Deaths from eating disorders are relatively rare. We have a horrible obesity crisis that is shortening newer generations lifespans. Yes, anorexia, bulimia are horrible but the death toll is nothing compared to obesity. Anorexia might get more media attention because it affects a lot of celebrities and white, upper class women. Obesity affects more people especially those in poverty.

Your comment about plus size models not having double chins is very true and accurate. I have always found a lot of plus size "inclusivity" to be very preformstive and lackluster. For instance most plus size models I think hold their weight in certain places, they are never heavy in the face or stomach or arms, they hold their weight in their thighs, butt and boobs; and are taller so their being a larger size never looks that noticeable if that makes any sense. I'm not plus size, but close to it at a size 12-14, but as someone who holds a lot of their weight in their stomach it very much sends the message of "it's okay to be a little heavier just not in those places". I have the same feelings about the body trend shifting to "thicc" women which is that same shape of having bigger boobs, thighs and butt but having a tiny waist and stomach. I have also noticed people praising brands for being "inclusive" when in reality they just have like 2 plus sized models. Having 5 models that are size zero and 5 models that are size 20 is still only two sizes. Sorry that was kind of a long rant.

When you touched on college I started sobbing I’m a high school freshman and currently college isn’t on my mind I have thought about it and it just doesn’t seem like a good fit for me, but I have had teachers flat out tell me if you don’t go to college you will end up working at McDonald’s your entire life. It has put me in a really bad point in my life because all my teachers don’t tell students that don’t want to go to college what to do, or even that we have any job options. Anyway your point of view is very similar to how I feel and you don’t normally hear an adult talk about it that way.

I kind of like the idea (for the politics and makeup/consumption thing) that it shouldn't matter if it doesn't become part of the companies core. Within the makeup community this applies/applied to companies like Kat Von D. and Jefree Star because when you buy from those brands you are buying from a company whose core "face" are the problems with the company. I think to some degree brands like chick fil a have similar issues because they make their religion a part of their branding (closures on Sunday and the religion focus on their website). Idk just my basic opinion kind of curious what other people think the line is.

As a personal trainer I’ve had to explain body positivity to many clients. Having body positivity is something everyone should have regardless of your weight. Of course being physically healthy is important, but being mentally healthy is just as important. Everyone’s bodies are happy at different weights. Whatever feels healthy and natural for you is fine! You are allowed to love yourself while also still working on bettering yourself. There can be so many reasons why someone is naturally heavier, including medical issues, medications, food sensitivities, genetics, etc. As long as your are paying attention to what you eat (strict diets don’t work) and you’re getting physical activity of some sort done every day, you’re fine. I also 100% agree that most “plus sized” models are NOT plus sized at all lol. I’m like.... she’s just curvy! Wtf! This was a great video and I always love hearing your opinions. My body, just like other bodies, is beautiful and deserves respect, which means that I should treat it with respect. I’m not from the US and i think that when some US people learn even like 1 fact about another country or it’s culture (mainly 3rd world countries or countries that are still developing) they act entitled to that one fact they know and overall act as if they know so much more than anyone else and like everything they say about that country is true. I was discussing something on reddit with someone that wanted to teach me about a country that is like a sister to mine. Like they are almost the same country.. i have family in there, i’ve been there numerous times, i have friends there, talk to people from there, their tv programs are broadcasted here and i learned about their history when i was in both school and highschool. So someone from the US that visited that country once or twice is not going to lecture me on something i know because it’s basically as if i lived there. People in latin america can’t tell that country’s accent apart from mine because they are almost the same. Also what that person on reddit was saying was wrong, not because i say so, but because history and people from that country say so. (I knew they were from the US because they followed several subreddit’s about their state like ‘oklahoma politics’, ‘oklahoma people’ or ‘oklahoma thoughts’ + they said they were from the US. -i don’t know if those subreddit’s exist and that person probably wasn’t from that state, i just wanted to put an example). If you are wrong learn and delete your comment or edit it and add that someone actually taught you better, don’t keep trying to defend what you said when even locals are telling you it’s not correct.

neu dae and that shows up with the racism and xenophobia you guys experience and those being taken to such extremes. Black history (US history) not being taught at schools when it’s literally part of your history. I don’t know if they teach you about native americans at school but even here we are taught about that part of US history, Malcolm X, MLK and racism as a whole. Do you learn about the history of white people only? Like only the lives of white politicians? Edit: my point is that when you are used to only listening and seeing how great your country and history is and while not caring or wanting to learn about the rest of the world, you are less likely to be tolerant of someone else’s culture or way of acting/being/behaving. You won’t understand why things are the way they are in other cultures because you were never taught that. It’s easier to discriminate when the only values you know are those of your own culture. That’s why it’s so shocking for some people in the US when they see how women dress and behave in some middle eastern countries and stuff.

Also, unpopular opinion to the “Americans don’t know anything about world history beyond American history” unpopular opinion: most countries I’ve gone to, people don’t know American history either. It’s not an American exclusive thing. It’s not like they focused so much energy on American or European or Asian history in my 12 years of Canadian curriculum. They focused on Canada, then expanded further after the fact or in conjunction. My ex girlfriend who was French didnt now much of anything about American or Canadian history. My English relatives don’t. It seems to me that so many of these people that say “Americans know NOTHING about the rest of the world” are a bit hypocritical because let’s be real; how much about American history do *they* know.

Lizzos campaign with UD Honey made me buy it tbh. I know she’s very famous for singing, not makeup, but I can’t lie it made me happy

“World History”. You mean European history and a brush over for everywhere else (I literally learned nothing about Africa until I started self teaching myself).

Most of my world history class was about Egypt and Mesopotamia

Also at least in my high school world history=European history which as an adult realizing how bs that is infuriates me

in my high school (i’m assuming most california schools did the same thing) the only time we covered non-european countries was with the world wars and the cold war. though my teacher decided to cover the arab springs (i.e. ongoing revolts in middle eastern and north african countries) at the end of the year to connect past events with current events. either way, it’s too eurocentric.

Also Its literally different from the way it’s taught here in Europe,but you’ll kinda see this a lot with a lot of countries. For example there’s a huge difference of perspective between western and Eastern Europe history so it’s really not surprising

What you said about kids wanting to be influencers really hit home for me. I currently work as a substitute teacher of varying grades, primarily elementary and more than half of my classes have these goals of being youtubers, and youtube consumes their entire lives. I think it'll be interesting in the next ten or so years, as those kids are graduating high school to see what will happen to colleges. Their amount of students will probably be severely reduced - maybe in the US specifically, colleges may even have to cut costs. Who knows? Got me thinking.

When I was a teenager I was a huge punk and very against "the system" as many teenagers are. When I left high school I had a negative view on college or university because I felt like going into debt to work a work a job was feeding into the system that I was so actively fighting against. I was huge on the rhetoric of " I dont need college I'll find what work makes me happy and live my life free of the constraints of society!" I was VERY much on the ""college is LAME!" Boat. I spent my years after high school working low paying jobs and going to punk rock shows and the beach and making art projects. It was a lot of fun in the beginning but once I turned 25 I was tired of the low paying service jobs I was working and desperately wanted more in my life. I realized the only way to get out of the cycle I was in was to get a degree and take internships and work towards a career that I reallly wanted. After starting college I realized its not lame at all. It pushes you in ways I had no idea about. It teaches you how to work in teams and take peer feedback and how to give peer feed back. It teaches you how to network yourself and interview properly and besides that it opens you up to areas of study and world views you may not have had an intrerest in. It is expenisve and it is hard but the struggle really did push me to do more and make my work professional as well as creative. Now I may have just had a good experience at a good university but when I hear teenagers who are on their college is lame shtick it just reminds me of how I was and how wrong I was.
