My family, even when we were kids, were never big in to Christmas or birthdays. Yes, we got presents, but nothing on the scale of other families. We didn't mind, just the way we were, what we were used to. However, now that I'm older, the joy for me, personally, is watching children opening gifts, whatever time of year it is. "the Trooper" is the name of a song by Iron Maiden. the "ride the 600" is reference to the "Charge of the light brigade" which the song is based on. the beer is made in their own brewery, they also own a pub in Gibraltar. the British soldier on the bottles label is "Eddie" who is the bands mascot and appears on all their album and singles covers/sleeves. the band formed in 1975 and are still touring and recording to this day.

Amusing story - back in the late 1960's - my parents' friends emigrated from England to San Jose. They had their son & daughter after they moved. I vividly remember during the late 70's & into the 80's - shopping with my mum in M&S for kids/teens/adults underwear to send out to them a couple of times a year. They missed the quality of M&S and loved what mum sent. In the 90's when they as a family came back for a visit- they purposely left extra space in their suitcases so they could all have an M&S clothes shopping spree!

M & S is not for everyday shopping, unless you've got serious money. Most of us Brits go there occasionally, for special treats at Christmas etc. It's food is good quality. It is a major clothing & household store, not really a supermarket brand, but very middle class. A similar level to John Lewis & Waitrose. A more budget supermarket is Aldi, or Lidl, & Asda. Mainstream supermarkets, of moderate prices are Sainsburys, & Morrisons.

Apart from shopping at small local shops (Costcutter's) etc, on our high street, my daughter usually shops in the nearest Tesco Express, and ditto our nearest Co-op, or she buses (or walks _to_) our main town's bigger Tesco ...though a couple of miles or so further on, is a much larger - though not quite a "superstore" - Tesco* (which _used to be_ 24/7*). The centre of Lewisham, and in Bromley (opposite ends, and different boroughs) have large Sainsbury's, where I don't tend to shop, though when in Bromley, there's no Co-op or Tesco there, so Sainsbury's is the only large supermarket in that town, though they do have an M&S there (for the _more expensive_ but 'extra special' items, such as desired at Christmas time!!)

M@S food is god level quality mostly. Iron maiden were formed around 1980 as a heavy metal band the name comes from a torture device like a human shaped box but with long metal spikes pointing inwards!

basically you will find many products have American and uk mixed in., just like the time in early sixties when we were formed to the 24 hour clock , so close but so far apart that both cultures mix .

the bottle of 'trooper' is made literally up the road from me at Robinsons brewery in Stockport. and yes, if you look it up, Iron Maiden decided on the ingredients and all that. it's quite a popular beer.

That isn't just food. That's M&S food. M&S use that line when describing their food. M&S sell clothes and homewares but the foodhall is also a standalone store. Look them up, christmas food adverts etc.

M&S was a fashion store for clothes for the middle / upper class buyer. They added food 20+ years ago and they are a treat shop for special stuff.

Hello. M&S stands for Marks and Spencer, otherwise Sparks in short. It’s a shop that sells clothing, some home wear and a food store. They used to make their own goods but these days do sell some branded goods in their food store. Their ladies underwear is apparently very good quality, in the passed few years their clothing has been classed as out of fashion but, has updated itself recently. Their foods are top quality, but not the cheapest. If buying their own brand foods they will be superior to other branded goods. They used to do a meal combo, a main course, extras, a dessert and wine for a reasonable price. A great place to get snacks such as sandwiches of loads of varieties, soft drinks, cakes, crisps (US Chips) of many varieties. Good seasonal stock, all you need for an easter spread, summer barbecue, Halloween, and Christmas. Original maker of Percy the Pig and Colin the Caterpillar. Not the cheapest shop, mid-range I would say but, the quality is very high, especially the foods.

Yeah but the food is good and worth the money IMO. I just used to go and pick a few things because of the expense but I never regretted a single buy.

The Quote on the Beer bottle is from a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson The Charge of the Light Brigade. Half a league, half a league. Half a league onward, All in the valley Death Rode the Six Hundred. "Forward, the Light Brigade! Charge for the guns!" he said. Into the Valley of Death Rode the six hundred. There are 5 more verses after this. One of the more famous parts of the Crimean War and the Battle of Balaclava. The charge itself was a blunder in communications and shouldn't have happened. But is seen a hugely brave act by the six hundred galloping into the guns only 195 returning with Horse many killed, wounded or taken prisoner.

M&S is pretty much our premium food supermarket in the UK. They’re known for high quality items and they tend to be a bit more expensive than other mainstream supermarkets. Often people will buy “treat” items for special occasions like birthday and Christmas. They do particularly good food gift items at Christmas. We, however, do the majority of our food shopping at M&S, because we’re fancy 😂😂😂. (It’s actually because my husband is a fussy foodie and won’t eat much from anywhere else.) In our defence though we rarely go out to eat and never have takeaways (take out). That’s my excuse anyway 😄. I’m sure you’ll enjoy that lovely generous box 😊. Ooh, and the Honey Roast Ham crisps are delicious 😋
