Saw DD in Detroit Sept 2023 and Careless Memories was in the set list and they rocked it!! Such great energy and it’s crazy to think it’s more than 40 years old.

Careless Memories is a very dark song. I think it’s about going through a break up. Which can cause a lot of dark thoughts. Suicide, murder, etc…. Some of the scenes and images you mention are reflections of that. 🙂

Love the Andy Taylor thumbnail! I'm into it, dorky face and all! Directors Perry Haines and Terry Jones were the vanguards of the New Romantic movement, and eventually founded iD magazine. I understand while they were engaged for the music video at that time; Nick and John were probably so excited. But Russell Mulcahy did a better job of understand what both Duran needed AND the music video vocabulary/style.

I've always found Russel Mulcahy terribly overrated. DD gets the best video from Godley & Creme with Girls on Film. But obviously IMHO and with all due respect👌

@@ilgwent8061 Not everything Russell's done has hit the bullseye (anything The Reflex after, pretty much messy), but the early videos he did for Duran was definitive. With the small sample size of Girls on Film and A View To A Kill, Godley & Creme are two for two 🙂

Nick always hated this video but I actually find it very cool, not fake CGI, not sophisticated effects, not a shiny photograph, remind in me of a Human League video in its genuine mood. Some frames may be hard to understand but to my opinion this video is very suitable for a new wave band in 1981. I'll never understand Nick's tastes. Seriously.

I always got a feeling that maybe the girl was secretly cheating on Simon w John... 😅 I didnt knew them when these videos first came out (I dont remember if they did in the States) but later as a big Duranie I collected all their music videos so I think I have seen all of them. This is a GREAT song "live" I didn't even like it very much until I heard it in concert. & this is definitely one of their worst videos. I agree with another commenter that Russel Mulcahy understood their vision better, videos & more ❤️🎶

A bit of info from a true Duranie era as ya now!!!! Nick Rhodes mastermind behind Duran Duran doesn't drive he's always uses black cabs in London!!!! Also chauffeur driven!!!! Spotify there's a greatest hits been released called Duran Duran all the hits!!! 49 and it as careless memories on there and extra 2 tracks Arcadia election day and the flame!!!! I've got this album on my Spotify account and it looks like it will be released sometime this year!!!! So it's got every track from planet earth up to laughing boy!!!! It's totally bloody awesome amazing fantastic!!!! So there's a bit of info for ya buddy and Duran Duran fans who didn't now!!!! How good am I lol!!!

Nick Rhodes never got a driving license, I remember when he said to me that he never got the chance to take it since he became famous when he was only 18 and suddenly he realised that he wouldn’t need to drive a car when he could have easily go everywhere while sitting more comfortably at the back! I remember being disappointed with the Arena version as Simon’s vocal is right up but Andy’s guitar is toned down 😳 The American album ‘As the lights go down’ has the much better version where the guitars are maxed up as in the live video of the same name 😁👍

Strange you say that about the Arena version. I've never liked the Arena version of this or Planet Earth. I just find the studio versions sound better and flow better. I don't hear them as robotic or anything like that

I hadn't seen the video before, it is a bit cringe. I do appreciate the closeups though;). As for a fan fave album, that would be a long album. The important question wouldn't be what to put on the album, but what not to put on the album. Thank goodness for modern playlists that will play all the Duran Duran.

So strange for someone to react to the video and breaking down everything they are doing.. It's an early 80s video..it's not meant to have any meaning.. Did you really try to figure out what they saying to each other in the car?? How about just reacting to just the song! How can you really react to the song when you keep doing the sing to talk about the flowers in the video and Simon's dancing 🙄 you seem to know a lot about the band before reacting to this.. You have heard this song before and it shows.. How about taking about Johns bass playing or the drums in the song.. Just complaining about Simons dancing and their facial reactions.. So lame.. Not impressed.. Couldn't even finish watching.. Tip for you Learn to react to the SONG.. You apparently don't understand 80s music videos at the time
