When you compare any of her covers to originals, I always think Angelina is a good 20yrs younger than most every artist she coveres and still blowes you away! Her voice puts more emotion into the songs. She is at such an early age, is right up there with them!

I was a Whitney fan from the beginning of her career to her tragic end. Whitney was great, but Angelina at 17 is far better than Whitney ever was at making you feel each word, and phrase. AJ changes every cover to make it hers and far, far better than the original. AJ is the greatest STORYTELLING ARTEST I have ever experienced in my 76 years.

Great honest reaction ! I appreciate your kind of thoughts about Whitney and Angelina and the comparison, which is only natural. You have to realize that Angelina pays homage to Whitney Houston every time she sings because this is one of her most favorite singers and most influential in her life since she was a baby. In fact, there's a recording of Angelina at one and a half years old singing a Whitney Houston song, so that should tell it all. I think one of the more important things to remember. Angelina made the song her own in her own tone and her own key which is a little bit different than the original but Angelina did great justice to this wonderful song and it's one of her finest performances. I feel even though it was in a studio. I think Angelina's live version when she was in Norway. The same year in 2022 was just as fabulous and even better because it was live. I think importantly we should realize Angela is on the way up. She was only 16 years old at the time of this recording and you must remember Whitney was 29 years old. Whenever she recorded that song age difference means a little bit but in Angelina's case. she was always an old soul with a mature voice. I really liked how you approached your honest reaction and summation of the whole song. It is so much appreciated to have you back in the KZbin community. She did it LIVE in Norway, for TV , and due to a potential (non) sound recording issue, they had her sing it again, a minute later... i saw her live in New Hampshire do it at end of a 2 hr cincert. NOW, I HAVE YET TO SEE WHITNEY DO NEAR THIS WELL, IN a one-take, original pace performance, like this... no long(rest) pauses... Whitney never did !!

The other good news is that it is a decade until the pipes of AJ mature. Regarding AJ covers, she usually (not always) is really good at keeping the "intention" of the original intact. Doing Billie Jean, she is not really keeping the style or sound, but I think MJ would have approved regarding the intention (or skeleton?) being intact And yes, I think you gave points? As for as this rendition of this song, it is perfect for Angelina. If Angelina sang this song originally without anyone else ever doing it, it would be considered a masterpiece the same way it is considered now when Whitney did it. At this point in Angelina's young career at only 18 years old, she is on the level of all the ladies that you named. Because she is the absolute vocal virtuoso that she is, she's going to go higher, and further than many of the rest. As she has, and is developing, she will be the most rounded, and the most versatile of any singer in the last century. And as genres go, they say that it is hard to be great at everything, but Angelina will be the closest one to being able to do so. Whitney Houston is an artist I have listened to a lot, especially during the beginning of her career in the 80s. I have many of her records, but this particular song has never been one of my favorites. I haven't disliked it but it hasn't really meant anything to me at all. I wasn't too impressed with Angelina's first attempt with this song either, but for some reason this version became an instant favorite of mine. I can't explain why but I feel every word and get emotional in a way I've never experienced with any other version of this song by any artist. There's just something about Angelina's voice and way of singing that often suits me perfectly.

I don't see many people here pointing out that you reacted to Angelina's first cover of this same song back in 2019 (that's when AJ posted her cover, not when you reacted to it), singing in the same key as Whitney's original studio version (higher than here). You loved it at least as much as this one, and gave it the same score. So, you _did_ actually already know that someone other than Whitney could sing this song and you would like it, and that Angelina could hit the highest notes (and higher). You just didn't remember.🙂 I suspect there's going to be a lot you don't remember about how good she is. Even people who only go a couple of weeks between AJ reactions will say things like, "I always forget how good she sounds!" BTW, personally I prefer her live rendition of this song that she did on _Allsang på Grensen_ shortly before this music video was released (her first live appearance after "the lockdown"). It was posted to both the show's YT channel and Angelina's Official channel. She sang it twice for some reason (people say various things, but no one knows for sure why), and cell phone footage shot from the audience reveals that both takes were equally good in terms of her performance. In fact, they were so similar that when I checked the two takes from the cell phone video against what aired on the show (and was posted to her Official channel), at first I thought maybe they had used a mix of the two, because the first take syncs up so closely for so much of the song. But then I checked the second take, and it synced up perfectly throughout the entire song, so it's obvious that they only used the second take for the broadcast.

Maunalee, you were one of the first reactors I have ever actually subscribed to. As a matter of fact, I recently searched your channel to see if you have reacted to Angelina fairly often. One of the quote I remember from one of your first reactions was “that’s the voice I want when I grow up “ … understand you have an allegiance to Whitney Houston. Most of us do but please remember the kid was 16 years old when she performed this. You have a lot to catch up on? Love you to pieces, but it’s not exactly fair to compare 16-year-old to 28 where Whitney recorded the song in the studio… just saying.

Missed you Maunalee, I really liked what you said about respecting the original song version... even though Angelina can really mess around with a song...she still gives due honor and respect . That was a great great point and compliment for our wee Angie. 'If' you haven't seen Angelina reinterpret California Dreaming by the Mamas and Papas you must! This was for me the song where Angelina's- true-genius- for interpretation smacked me right in the face. Nasa was kicking around the idea of using 'spider' plants for air purification... apparently they're the best for it.
