Thank you,for another heartfelt reaction to Angelina singing her first original song. Although she is singing it at the age of 12, she wrote it when she was eleven. Simple words by an 11-year-old child describing the things that are important to her at that age, but when one listens carefully one realises that those words are of great emotional depth to which all of us can relate. For me, that a child can so clearly tell us in simple words what is important to her is remarkable, and then when one listens closely realises that those simple words describe an intellectual and emotional depth which is certainly unusual in one so young.

She is 12 years old in this video but was actually 11 when she first recorded it for her album It’s Magic. That album also includes another original Oslo. Not sure which was written first. Some have commented that she might have actually been 10 when she wrote these songs. She wrote new lyrics to Back to Black in less than 24 hours when she was 10.

Hi ! I'd like to share an experience with you. Recently on my phone I was about to show someone a particular song on you tube and when I thought I had it all set up all of a sudden an Angelina video appeared and I apologized to the gentleman, "Oh, this isn't it. Sorry!" He had heard only about 5 seconds of Angelina and he had this startled look on his face and blurted out, "Who was that? Wow!" Of course, after I let him listen to the song I was looking for the conversation, (naturally) turned to Angelina. I gave him one of my 'introduction to Angelina Jordan business cards' and I'm sure we just had another angel join us on her journey. The business cards? I was tired of writing down information for people on 'napkins' and any paper I could find at the time. So I decided to make the cards at Staples. It's been a huge success. It's very generic in nature and nothing about me. I will be bringing some to the Concert next week and hand them out to the angels. If they like the idea they can go to their local Staples and get a few hundred made up.

One of the lines in the song reminds me that, by age 12, she has been a lot of different places around the world and seen things that others try to ignore (like the story of why she performs in bare feet). That line is, "Maybe life is a warm embrace from someone safe." Everyone needs to have that place, to duck into and get out of the storm. Even if it's just for a few moments.

She wrote this at age eleven and first recorded it for her album It’s Magic with an orchestra. My favorite video is the lyric one which has her album performance on it. Something about it just touches my heart every time! It’s also rewarding to see the lyrics.

Thanks Maria....yes a cute 12 year old, first original composition, singing in this cute tweety bird shirt and all, but what seems to be lost in most of these reactions is that she actually sang this at 11 years old for her album "It's Magic" so simply put she likely wrote this song at 10-11 years old, along with another original "Oslo" (about her home country) that she sang at 11 years old, again likely written before that age...and there is another original "Shield" performed at 12 years old and Again, likely written before age 12....can we just recognize the fact that she was writing songs when most kids are in like 6th grade in school???. This fact seems to be lost in most reactions I have seen, needs to be understood I suppose...just me. Always appreciate your reactions Maria. 🥰🥰 Just wanted to point out the facts here, sorry for the winded comment...but this is actually quite amazing if you think about it.

Not only that, although her Old Enough EP was released at age 17, we know she had been working on her album for quite a while. Back in March she posted that her album was complete so it’s safe to assume that she was 16 or younger when she wrote the songs and maybe still 16 when she recorded them..

I've seen Angelina Jordan videos all over KZbin but had never watched one....until now. I was NOT expecting that mature, awesome, voice come out of that girl. Great review, and I will definitely be checking out more AJ videos.

David, you really need to hear her recently released EP album called "Old Enough," with 6 original songs. It's on most streaming platforms & they are also on her YT channel, AngelinaJordanofficial. The 1st 2 songs have a music video, Love Don't Let Me Go & Now I'm the Fool, so you can see what she looks like today at 17 yo. Enjoy!

We know Angelina first performed this song at age 11 for her "It's Magic" album. We know she was 12 years old for this performance. Every song the guitarist, Ivan Mendez, played was when Angelina was 12 years old. Recently learned Angelina has written more than 100 songs in her young life and we have been blessed with 11 so far. Easy to tell Angelina is an old soul when she sings but here we learn she is wise beyond her years with her lyrics.

Kaleidoscope RMX has a trimmed version that does not have the long intro which I love but maybe reactors might not prefer. But either way it’s all good as far as I am concerned. Enjoyed your reaction as always. If you really want to understand how incredibly profound her thoughts are, you should read her book "Between Two Hearts" or in Norwegian "Mellom to Hjerter". Keep in mind, it was published when she was 9 but she wrote much of it at age 6! A pretty fair amount was taken verbatim from her diary (do you know any 6 year olds who keep a diary? I don't! This girl is a gift!

Jeff, not only was she writing in a diary when she was 6 or younger, but in her interview for her book release, she read from the diary she wrote at 6 as the TV camera zoomed in on the text. It was beautiful cursive handwriting that was very neat & much better than I was ever able to achieve as an adult.

Great reaction, Maria, to a gorgeous song which, to be written by a 10 or 11 year old, is philosophically mindblowing in many ways! My favorite line (which Socrates would have loved!) is "we come, we see, we go." What elementary school kid thinks like that!? Another song she wrote about this same time (probably her second song) is called "OSLO" about her hometown. It's absolutely beautiful and majestic! Hope you'll react to it as well. They are both on her "It's Magic" album she recorded at age 11 with the Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces!

The first song Angelina wrote that was recorded was OSLO - which deserves a reaction - However, her songwriting skills began before then when she rewrote the lyrics to Amy Winehouse's Back to Black at age 10 and Rehab (School) most likely at 10 or 11. @@keithserafy It is hard to say specifically - as the post dates may not be the same as the original writing dates - but it appears that OSLO was released before What Is Life? - sounds like a good question to ask Angelina during a livestream.

No, What Is Life was released two weeks prior to the rest of the album. That is no indication when it was written, though. I guess that this rumor orginates in people shortening the "one of her first" into "her first". You can see this happen here in real time within two minutes, compare 1:59 to 3:19 Similar with I Who Have Nothing, where people interpret her "first time [recording that song]" with her "first time recording in a studio".
