Chad, what a beautiful way to end our wonderful marathon weekend. So soothing and beautiful. They did perform it live when they were younger and throughout their careers. Two live performances come to mind, the 1974 Melbourne concert and the "ONO" 1997 concert in Vegas. Both are worth a look if you get a spare moment. Thanks again for another wonderful weekend!

It's amazing how young Barry was when he wrote this song. Such depth such perception of life at such a young age. It was an indication of what yet was to come. The word genius is often overused, but when it comes to Barry and the Bee Gees it's a fact that they were musical geniuses and ahead of their time, just look at their body of work.

Favorite lines... “...another day to swing on clothes lines...” Are clothes swinging on the clothes lines, or bad boys? “...fly me to the moon, to the top right hand corner of the ceiling in my room...” What imagery! If there was any doubt the song was about the seasons of life, Andy recorded it, and made a video. He walks past children playing in the sand during the first verse, then a young couple, middle aged, then older people for the evening of life verse. What’s amazing is that it was written by a teenager! Thanks for the Bee Gees weekends!!!
@janicetrimmell68973 жыл бұрын
My absolute favorite lines too. I think the little boys were swinging. I had a swing, two ropes and a seat hanging from the clothesline, many many years ago. My dad made it for me. Yes, the lyrics sound like childhood, but subtext is morning daytime and evening of life.

I just have so much love for this beautiful song. They described childhood, growing up and living a life. They were just kids when Barry wrote this in Australia. From what I have read, after they got to the UK the record company had others cover it before they got to record it. In a recent interview with Tim Roxborough, Barry talked about including it as a bonus track on his Greenfields album, and the possibility of adding it to a Greenfields Volume II. I have heard that bonus track and Barry kills it. I don't know how he did it alone without Mo and Robin. Barry said the recording released (what you reacted to) isn't exactly what he would have liked. I think he said it was "almost wonderful." Of course they didn't have much creative control in those years and I expect his tastes in arrangements have changed over the decades. I have heard this done so many times in footage of various concerts. The tempo on this recording is slower than how they did it live. For years and years this is the one Mo would have license to do anything to crack up his brothers. If anyone has seen the 1974 concert in Melbourne (Barry in red pants) you know what I mean. I picture them as children singing this wonderful tune. By the time they got to the 1997 One Night Only, they were accomplished mature adults, and it was just perfect - I mean so perfect you cry. They stood around one microphone together, did it up tempo, perfect harmony and the the looks that passed between Mo and Barry made me breathless. I have the Best Of Volume 2 album and glad to have this version too. It hits my heart in what you think is simplicity, but how did a teenager find those lyrics? "In the evening I will fly you to the moon to the top right hand corner of the ceiling of my room" I picture any child looking at their room each night before they sleep. "Where we'll stay until the sun shines. Another day to swing on clotheslines." My dad hung a swing on the clothesline at our old house when I was barely old enough to walk. What a beautiful picture of childhood. I think it might have been a little idealized for them, because not everything in their young lives was easy. I guess you can tell how I feel about this song. Thanks Chad.

Yes, you're right, Chad. Thanks for how you talked about the Bee Gees fanfamily, here on your channel. Think we found us, sharing a wonderful activity in this crazy times, we're suffering. So just 'please be patient, with your life', like Barry sang and wrote. And it's kinda phenomenal, how he's been able to build up such a wonderful song in melody and lyrics at the age of 18/19. He takes us from picture to picture! Like he said about his album 'Greenfields': "If you can see a song, that's songwriting". Maybe we, the fanfamily learned about life at all, listening to the words of him and also his brothers. Love you all!

It was also used in the opening credits for a british movie called Melody, starring Jack Wild (of H.R. Puffinstuff fame) about coming of age. This was the perfect song for that film, since it's about how fast childhood speeds by, and not to be in too much of a hurry, and even when you reach the "evening" of your life, still keep a little of that child in you.

Wow, first to comment! Honestly, I'm not stalking you! Just came in from gardening! Lovely lyrics even for their youthful ages, but what else is new! The stripped down acoustic versions of this song that they often did in concerts really show the three part harmonies beautifully. They often improved upon the songs live...if possible...adding new touches. As you said, not everyone will always agree or like the same songs but we're on a lovely journey and making new friends in your community, including yourself, at the same time. You do have a wonderful community, THE BEST! You have been a breath of fresh air during this lousy *$#!$* pandemic. My other highlight of the week is taking out the garbage! Many of us do watch simply for your facial expressions and comments, many of which are a hoot! You're an open book! Will be listening next week and whatever comes up in the meantime! I have to say I have followed you some and it was quite a few of your Bee Gees reviews but there's something I definitely have to say about you that I really can't say about myself or pretty much anybody else and that is when you get into a group and you start doing a review you get very very thorough because most of the time once you get past the hits a lot of the other stuff really isn't very good but this song you're doing right now had you not reviewed this I would never have heard this and I actually like this song I think this probably at a different time more towards the president May well have been a hit but back in the '60s when there were so many and the seventies there were so many hits that a lot of hits that deserve to be number one could never get there because there were so many hits that you can only have 51 spots for number one or 52 spots for number one for weeks and I can see now that some good music probably got left behind or fell through the cracks because of that time period being so rich in great music. I would say this BG song morning of my life probably would have done pretty well in the 80s or 90s and I certainly like the song but I never would have heard it had you not felt so deep the end of the Bee Gees so in that respect I say kudos and thank you because I learned another song of Bee Gees that I hadn't heard before that I like and you are probably the most in-depth reviewer as far as going Way beyond the norm and reviewing a band especially in your review of The Bee Gees which happens to be my favorite band even above the Beatles of course I love the Beatles but I love the Bee Gees just a little bit more. So thank you for being such an in-depth reviewer.
