Can I ask that you and anybody reading this who is unfamiliar with this record to stick with it. This record grows and grows on you the more you listen to it, it’s very strange. I first listened to this in 2018 and just didn’t get it, but through time it really changes your perspective like it’s some form of a moving picture.

Loved this review. Couple of notes: -Solo (reprise) verse was Andre 3000 -Beyoncé was the harmonies on Pink + White -Frank is bisexual/gay(?) (which was huge news when he came out when he released the album before this 'Channel Orange' because it made him the biggest and pretty much only person in HipHop/rnb space to come out.) This may also impact some of your interpretations on certain songs like Siegfried. I honestly hated this album on first listen but I gave it another go during lockdown and it somehow just clicked. It's TOP 5 for sure now!
@lusciousluie2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! I'm so glad you said it was Andre because that's exactly who came to mind when that song was playing. And I can hear it being Beyonce now! I think I remember hearing when he had come out. Kind of why I kept saying partner to keep the gender ambiguous. This project has definitely helped songs click much faster because I am allowing myself to soak in each song and give them my undivided attention.

he didnt confirm but he's probably bi. on his verse on oldie he says "Im hi and bi- wait i mean im straight". and then there's Chanel which speaks for itself. other than that DHL has lyrics about him and a man and Wither (With her) is about a woman

It did the same thing for me. When I first heard the album, I was so confused. Granted, this was also before I really go into music. When I started 12th grade though, which was for me, my most difficult year academically, I listened to it again and it all started to make sense for me. I guess you can say, I certainly went through a "Blonde" period where life seemed to be changing and becoming heavier. I see it in the same way when a person dyes or changes their hair to a different color when a certain period of life comes along, usually, a tough period in life. I remember dying my hair amber after my first breakup. Blonde spoke to me differently then. Also Igor by Tyler the Creator but that's for another time.

The person at the end being interviewed is actually his little brother Ryan who unfortunately passed away in a car accident in 2020. It gives the song a whole different meaning at least for me. This album means a lot to me and I'm glad you like it too. Can't wait for the next album he'll drop (whenever that will be)

@@lusciousluie I don't know if anyone has explained it for you, but the album is mirrored. Every song on the first half reappears in a new shape. First half is "blonde" a more feminine, easy-going, happy setting but as soon as the nights beat switch happens it switches to "blond" the more masculine, darker, more desperate part.

Good vid fam 🙏🏼 two comments: Seigfried is about his sexuality, the "two kids and a swimming pool" being a metaphor for living life as a straight man. And his younger brother was heard at the outro to Futura Free, he passed sometime in the past couple years so RIP 🙏🏼

Siegfried was the soundtrack to my life for a long time. Literally ever since it originally came out it’s kind of haunted me. Because I could relate to the emotional sentiment and lyrics so deeply. Feelings I’ve never had expressed in a song before were finally being reflected back to me. Almost like a mirror. Basically for me personally it encapsulates the feeling of being queer/closeted. Not wanting to reveal your identity to the ones you’re supposed to be closest to. And now, just this past year, I’ve finally been able to open up and be my own true self. And I feel like I can look back on Siegfried like a good companion throughout those years of my life. I no longer relate to those tragic lyrics. And I think it’s for the better. It shows growth I think. Growth from shame and sadness to self-love and happiness. It will still always have a special place in my heart. “This is not my life, it’s just a fond farewell to a friend.”

The first time that i hear to blonde (i start with Nikes) i think: "this song is weird, why him voice is pitched up?", And now i say: "these bitched want Nikes". In the end of album (Futura Free), it's s good way to end a perfect album, the song starts a little weird, but in the middle (around 3 minutes), starts a hip-hop beat, with Frank rapping on it, i love Futura Free. And the real end of album, is "Interviews" (End of futura free) that's maybe a friend of Ryan (Frank's broter that died in 2020 😞 ) that's interviewing Ryan and another peoples. I love this album.
