Actually if you listen Suga (Agust D) mixtapes and album you will realize it's not new for him to going hard and being raw, honest and emotional in his lyrics. That's why he is my bias 💜 Btw this the shortest version of the song ✨

The red stuff around the doors is wax it’s inspired by/referencing a famous art piece by Anish Kapoor. It’s idea that we leave behind pieces of ourselves like the trail of wax as we choose doors to go through. One of my favorite songs. How he portrays the Shadow part of our personality is genius in the last third. It talks to him/us about how it’s a part of him/us. In Vulture magazine they asked the best mixing engineers and heir hardest songs and this was in the list of 9 songs for how complex it was and how many track layers.

The graphic art that kept flashing up in red and white was the cover of their ORUL82 album, their second mini album, part of the 'school trilogy' which is what we call their first 3 mini albums. If you listen to the intros from these first 3 mini albums, they used those as samples 7 years later for the Map of the Soul:7 album Intro, Interlude and Outro. Intro: Persona (RM used Skool Luv Affair), Interlude:Shadow (Suga used ORUL82) and Outro: Ego (JHope used 2 Kool 4 Skool). What an amazing idea and worked so well. You should check them out!💜

Great reaction! I’m always so excited to check out your BTS videos when y’all post! The map of the soul albums are inspired by Karl Jung and his work. Before getting into the music video and lyrics, it’s helpful to have an understanding of some of Jung’s ideas surrounding the unconscious, the shadow, and the self. Jung believed that beyond our consciousness, a deep unconscious realm exists-a realm in which repressed attributes reside. The shadow, he theorized, contains negative traits we’ve put aside, as well as any traits we learned were not acceptable (even if those traits weren’t inherently bad). The dark figures in this MV represent Sugas internal shadow. They are separated from him as a representation of the shadow that lies just beneath the surface of consciousness. He also references the loneliness of being successful and at the top. This can mean many things to each individual, but it’s understandably a nod to how difficult it can be once you reach certain heights. Your life changes forever, the circle of people you can trust dwindles, and the expectations placed on you grow and grow. The shadows run towards him, as if rushing up from the unconscious to the surface, and he stops them just before they consume him. This scene appears as he raps about his shadow becoming a monster and swallowing him, which we must be careful of-our repressed traits may swallow us up if we don’t responsibly engage with our shadows and deal with our faults.

When I first became ARMY, this was the song that solidified my "membership" 😂 But for real, as someone who has primarily been an emo punk kid most of my life, I feel like Suga is the member who most directly taps into that angst and catharsis that really draws me in. Excited for you to get to his solo work!

I am so glad you guys didn’t pause the breakdown, the adrenaline I get from that part in the song is insane 😂 literal shivers. This is the first song of BTS’ that had a feeling where you just KNEW if they played this at a concert there would be a mosh pit going on. I say this as a metalhead also. The instinct to put on my stank face and get aggressive was real lmao!

Starting with Persona, these songs come from Map of the Soul, which revolves around the psychological theories by Carl Jung. The persona, shadow and ego are all parts of the Map of the Soul. DKDKTV has some really good explanation videos that will impress you if you want to dive in.

This is also one of my favorite songs by Yoongi across all of his discography, it breaks down how vulnerable he felt throughout their rise in 2017-2020, when this song was released. The production of the song was done so perfectly to convey the lyrics, you can always tell when Yoongi produces a song.

Love this song so much! This is also an abridged version of the song the actual song is 4 min 20 sec long with a 2nd verse and 2nd chorus. The red around the doors is red wax inspired by the artwork installation "Svayambh" by Anish Kapoor. Svayahmbh is a Sanskrit word meaning "Something that is created out of itself". In the moving artwork the block of wax squeezes through the doorframe and leaves some of itself behind. It's as "if it's skinning itself as it goes through the door" said Kapoor. It could symbolize loosing yourself a bit at a time while going through everything as a celebrity. This song does indeed go hard but you will find their are past b-sides of the bts rapline that go hard too like the Cyphers 1 through 4, Ddaeng, even the song Baepsae which is all the members, and the rapline song that is also on "Map of the Soul: 7" called "Ugh" which goes really hard talking about malicious hate usually spread online directed towards others like celebrities which can cause people to take their own lives. South Korea has one of the highest suicide rates for young people and several celebrities there have taken their own lives because of cyber harassment. Suga also talks about his own ambitions and greed turning him into a monster. He goes a lot more into this in his Agust D work, his first mixtape in 2016 is very raw and talks about his battle with depression. Suga had a really hard life and fought hard to survive to pursue his dreams. Not only that but BTS got a lot of hate out the gate when they debuted from many sides not just the underground rap scene but from many in the kpop industry as well, they weren't expecting the extreme amount of hate directed towards them for simply doing music. Something one of you said during your "BTS Guide" reaction from the beginning stuck with me and I think it applies very much to the kpop industry as well, when people knew they could become very successful they felt threatened by them. They were just teenagers many of them then but they had a lot of grown adults mistreating them on kpop music shows, tv shows and awards shows because of their small company. The big 3 companies in kpop were considered the elite almost like a class system in kpop. If you debuted in the top companies you were a "somebody" but if you didn't you were a "nobody" in the minds of many in the entertainment industry. It also didn't help that the big 3 had a monopoly in the entertainment system some basically owning the tv stations or music shows so it was extremely hard to get any air time. A few senior groups would openly mock them or belittle them for coming from a small company with little money. They went more into detail recently in their book "Beyond the Story: 10-year Record of BTS" where each member spoke about how they were treated at the time. I honestly find it extremely ironic that BTS have become the most well known successful "kpop" group because the majority of the kpop industry tried everything in their power to bring BTS down, many still do. And BTS had to find alternative ways to connect with fans because they got shut out from broadcasts or when they did make it on tv shows some treated them horribly, they got sick of the abuse so they made their own variety shows etc.

Yoongi's solo concert D-day is nothing like BTS's. It's rap/metal/grunge/alternative very dark, red with lots of fire. You could seriously be a fan of his without liking BTS and the reverse is also true, some fans aren't crazy about Yoongi or the rap line for that matter which is crazy bc they write 95% of Bangtan material with Pdogg the genious main producer and their house production team. I always check the song credits to see who worked on a song and there are songs with 17 people credited as co-writers. We are far away for the Beatles when Lennon and McCartney wrote their songs alone at the kitchen table.

You're totally right 10:31 your reaction - it's nothing we have seen in a BTS song. and really , in my opinion all the boys solo projects are wonderful, they are all great and it really showcases their talents and ndividuality but i have to be honest not only just because he is my bias , but I keep asking myself why I am very very fascinated to this guy among all the members but bcoz whenever i visit and watch Suga's songs and MV's , it is so deep and so very very meaningful best examples her masterpieces Daecwita, Haegeum, Amygdala, Shadow, Snooze, First Love and among other songs he produced and write, it's just so really deep and either i became emotional listening like his SNOOZE or his the THE LAST or i head banging listening his hardcore but a very likeable song like Daechwita, Haegeum or Agust D. Its just so different kinds of enjoyable when youre listening his music and watching his MV's , and most of his songs bcoz it so deep and sometimes it is beyond to your understanding and perception, i found nyself to rely sometimes in bookish theories or DKDKTV . Aside of him being a very good rapper, producer but it really fascinated me the lyrics , what he say when he do the rap , its just so phenomenal ! He is not just only swearing , just like most of tHe hollywoods rap using F in their rap and also putting some sexy girls to get a lot of attention and views with all the profanity , which i dont really appreciate it but with Suga's songs even do he used some f words on his songs but i hate to say this -- it's likeable because it overpowered what he say and whats the reason why he is using it. Suga, really changed my genres of music . I used to not liked wrap , im more of an oldies goodies person ( i might be born in a wrong era) bfore i discovered BTS and Suga aka Agust D, but since i encountered Suga's Daechwita the bridge why i deep diving BTS 4 yrs ago, eversince im hooked up and BTS became my music everyday. And even knowing all the members each of their story that made me love them so much , but Suga it never changed then and forever , he is my ultimate bias of all . I even love him more when i watched his show and its final episode of Suchwita ( b4 going to military) when i found out not only he is a brilliant musician but a very compassion, generous and has a heart of gold guy. His song SNOOZE is not only all in words or just a talk but he also show it in deeds thru that testimony of his special guest in that show. Suga -- a man of few words but many good deeds. I cannot wait for his DDAY TOUR THE MOVIE in the cinema worldwide this coming April. Im counting the days!! Happy Birthday Suga and thank you for making a wonderful, sensible , meaningful beautiful music💜! Waiting for your return and the rest of the members!! Thank you all for your enjoyable reactions guys!

Based on the meanings of the songs, this is to me part of a trio of songs: Interlude: Shadow Black Swan SUGA’s Interlude (on Halsey’s album) All talk about the fame they face and how they wanted it but now they face the harsh realities of fame that affect them personally but also their love for their art. The connection with Halsey again makes it unique as well.
