BYU average start of possession was the 40 yard line. They did not need to get a lot of yards to score. At times the offense played great. They had a walk on freshman running the ball and he looked great.

I'll admit, offense isn't that strong. That I'll accept. But the reason for great field position was fantastic defense that forced errors. Some of it was that Edwards is a tough stadium to play in, valid, and there were a few errors that KSU made that we didn't force--but our guys responded by taking advantage, which takes skill. KSU didn't do as well when we made mistakes, and we didn't make as many. That should say something.

Only thing I will say is that holding SMU and K State to field goals says a lot. Time will tell how BYU twll last in the full year perspective but this was a fun game and great magic. Looking at the total yards and judging BYU for their lack of yards in this game is a poor job of analyzing the game. BYU had several short fields and gained over 50% of the yards available to them. Not saying that BYU has a great offense, just don’t judge based on the yards alone.
@bighornbasinАй бұрын
I don't think BYU's offense will get them to the Big 12 title game. But don't dismiss the crowd at LES. It's electric because of them. Lot's of teams lose composure in that stadium, which leads to all the penalties and mistakes. Just ask K State.

@romebigred2Ай бұрын
BYU isn't as good as #13 in the nation, but you're so right--the defense CAUSED many (not all) errors, and skillfully capitalized on almost all of them, whether they caused them or not. Our offense didn't make many errors, and KSU wasn't as good of taking advantage of the ones we did make. We played so well that night.

BYU also drove the field for the field goal before the turn of momentum in fact you could say that was the start. That 93 yard punt return TD might be BYU's highlight play of the year so far . . . As for BYU being a Big 12 Title Contender, I'm not sure that was the goal for them this season anyway. BYU's goal this year was simply to become a post season team again and if they can eek out 2 more wins on their schedule, they'll achieve that goal. I think they are an improving team and they can be very solid and competitive in conference this year. Offensively they are getting better. They are underrated offensively and I see them only getting better every week so, we'll see where they shake out by the end of the season.

Utah winning without Rising @ Oklahoma State has got to be one of the most impressive victories any team has had so far this year. I was skeptical of Utah’s chances WITH Cam Rising. And they proved my skepticism to be unwarranted, because they won WITHOUT HIM. Unbelievable victory that could be the catalyst for Utah having a legendary season this year. Like, 2004/2008 Utah football level of legendary. This team reminds me of the 2008 team, in that they had an absolutely ELITE defense coupled with an above average to pretty excellent offense. Rising makes Utah not just the premiere Big 12 contender, but a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP contender. Utah’s defense this year is like Georgia-level good.
@andrewcunningham9662Ай бұрын
When your defense gets a scoop and score and you get a punt return for a touchdown, your offense doesn’t even get on the field. Add 2 super short fields caused by 2 interceptions within the 40 yard line, plus consider the fact that BYU was essentially up by 2+ scores the entire second half and really wanted to run out the clock. All these factors lead to an offense that didn’t need or even want to take risks and rack up the yards.

To play devils advocate. BYUs defense couldn’t get off the field. Only forced 1 punt (which was fielded for a touchdown, crazy only one punt but Kstate only managed 9 points). On the offensive side… 1st half 4 possessions 2 punts a fg and a touchdown. 1st possession had two drops and was 3 and out. Second possession was 10 plays and a punt. That possession is fine, it rests the defense and flips the field. 3rd possession 13 plays fieldgoal 4th possession short field off a turnover 2 plays 29 yards TD. 3/4 possessions for the offense are a positive. With no turnovers. 2nd half 1st possession 2 plays 27 yards touchdown. (Give the offense credit for converting turnovers to touchdowns) 2nd possession 5 plays 17 yards punt. Not a great possession but not a three and out. Gave the defense a break. 3rd possession 6 plays 38 yards TD. Punished KS for turnover on downs. 4th possesion BYU goes conservative 3 and out 5th possesion 4 plays including a first down, end of game. 7/9 possessions were positive for BYU 5/9 were scoring possessions. That’s a damn good offense showing who controlled the game within what was allotted to them. The box score doesn’t look great because Kstate 4 yard and 5 yard rushed the defense for most of the game.

I agree with the host. BYU is playing competitively but they have a lot of issues offensively before you could consider them a Big12 contender. This guy is hypocritical at best! Talking about a byu offense that isn’t sustainable? Then goes on to talk about Utah! Utah only put up 207 yards of offense! Against OSU and offense is lost without rising! Not to mention byu on every offensive possession received the ball on average at the middle of the field literally impossible to have more offensive yards! BYU scored TD on following every takeaway. If you take away the 21 point from turnovers BYU offense still wins the game 17 - 9. This guy clearly biased. Oh and just one more thing BYU has beat the odds 4 times.

Do better on your homework--or rather what Utah game were you watching that you think Utah only put up 207 yards of “offense?” Issac Wilson had 207 PASSING yards, but Utah also rushed for 249 yards with Micah Bernard getting 182 yards. That’s 456 yards of offense.

So, out of curiosity where do you think BYU will end up at the end of the season? You state he's being hypocritical and biased, then you suggest even with removing the takeaways the game would have still been 17-9... However, you're not taking into account, that had those takeaways not happened, K-State would have most likely scored - multiple times. Sounds like a biased take to me is all I'm saying. This is why you can't make arguments based on hypotheticals like that - too many unforeseen variables. To be clear I have no dog in this race. Anything can happen, the BIG12 is pretty clearly an open race if Utah can't get Cam back, and the "good" teams have looked pretty mid so far. Either way it's gonna be fun to watch.

@bryantaylor8848Ай бұрын
2:09 241 yards total offense, yes and the average starting field position was something like the 44 yard line. This is due in part to balanced team performance, sound game prep by the coaches & players, and fantastic cougar nation NOISE… Preparation & execution were key ingredients so when opportunity knocked BYU players rose to the occasion and executed above expectations of others. Now this is on tape it will be much less likely to be repeated in every category perhaps, but will likely lead to better team success overall this season than without these great plays…
@Jonas-22Ай бұрын
I know everyone and their dog is saying this in the comments, but BYU's average field position was the 44. Same yards per play as K-State. Both their running backs averaged 5 ypc, the team rushing was just down from sacks. Jake Retzlaff was 16/21 for 2 touchdowns. BYU hasn't allowed two legit offenses into the end zone this year, and has forced three turnovers from both. SMU just put up a 66 bomb on a good TCU team, but BYU held them to only field goals. They took care of the ball, and capitalized on K-State's mistakes. They played a very similar game against SMU, but didn't capitalize on their mistakes and had three giveaways. Not sure what isn't sustainable about that. We have Kansas, Houston, and Arizona at home, which all look very winnable right now. OKST looks flawed, and coming to LES at 8:15 on a Friday night won't make it easy. ASU and Baylor are far from super powers, so what's keeping BYU from going 10-2 realistically? Utah is a rivalry, so that should be good, UCF will definitely be tough, I'd imagine that's a loss. Michigan can pass for only 34 yards and that's good, but BYU can't run for 94 (5 ypc from running backs, and have their best LOOKING running game of the season) and be a good team. They're just lucky and can't sustain that.
