This is a reaction video of The Easybeats and Divinyls performing "I'll Make You Happy". The song is written by Stevie Wright and George Young of The Easybeats; recorded and released in 1966 on an Australian EP "Easyfever". The song is very representative of the power pop/psychedelic scene of the time. Stevie's vocals are intense and demanding. The band hammers out the song with some interesting guitar work. I love it!
The Divinyls covered the song in 1983 on their first album. The sound is definitely upgraded from it's predecessor simply due to better recording methods. The bass and drums are very present in this cover version.
Chrissy Amphlett, lead singer, delivers an in-your-face vocal. The guitars are pure pop for now people. This version really rocks! Enjoy ...

"Friday on My Mind" is one of my favorite "forgotten 45's." You can't easily beat a lyric like "Even my old man looks good!"

Whilst George Young (older brother of Malcolm and Angus young of ACDC fame) and Harry Vanda wrote a lot of songs, the inital sonwriting duo of the Easybeats were George Young and Stevie Wright, and this is one of their creations. I think Stevie was a tad hurt when the others took over that role, but you can't knock their work. It was truly a great pairing. Even more amazing was that Stevie was just 16 when he fronted this band. Incredible. There are YT documentaries about this band that are really informative and great to watch. I wasn't born when they rose to fame but love their music. Never got to see to see them live, but I was lucky enough to see the Divinyls. RIP Stevie and Chrissy 🕊 8:20 this is George Young. Harry Vanda has blonde hair.

Love this channel . Thanks a million. Bit of fun/sad facts related to Easybeats . George Young came from a family of 15! The eldest child was Alexander who stayed in UK. Recorded under the name of George Alexander, Grapefruit from memory. 13 more emigrated at same time! On sad note George Young went to live in Portugal (no-one knows who I am, and if they do they don't give a F). Visited Singapore passed away (No cause revealed). Malcolm (AC/DC) at the same time was in a Sydney Hospital for care ( dementia) and passed 2 weeks later. Harry Vanda is a (second) cousin of Agnetha Faltskog of ABBA . Stevie was shattered on arriving in UK to be told his songs including this one, She's so fine, Sorry etc. were not sophisticated enough and United Artists would not be releasing any of the Young/Wright songs in UK or Europe. Hope I got it right. Sure someone will be along to set me straight if not. Rock on Easyfever!

George Young(dark haired) and Harry Vanda(fair haired) are the guitarists/singers upfront with Stevie Wright.

Great to see this. I saw both acts live.. Stevie had an impish quality as a rock 'n' roller, while Chrissy had a more feral and dangerous quality. Certainly of their time and place!

@@drivingwithtodd1781 I'm more than happy to share stories about the bands I got to see in my teens. I had the advantage of being skilled in karate, so I would walk the streets in the early hours of the morning without a sense of fear (in hindsite, stupid). I got to meet a lot of interesting people after dark, and a few of them were musicians, including members of Divinyls. I'll share a story with each request.

Australia actually had the British Invasion before the United States, back in the 50's we had 'ten pound poms' emigrating 'down under'; the influence of the younger members of those British(also Scottish, Welsh and Irish) families was significant on the Australian music scene, with the surge of bands fusing with the current music scene through to the 70's & 80's.

When you took it back to listen to the guitarists the 2 in the frame was Harry Vanda the blonde one, and the dark head one George Young. Funny, most of the band's you named at the start Easybeats, Stevie Wright, AC/DC, The Angels, Rose Tatoo, Ted Mulry Gang, John Paul Young, William Shakespeare the singer no the poet were all under Albert's record label of course was Vanda and Young record lable. Chrissy was just fantastic. That husky voice, energy, and enthusiasm. Fantastic.

So many rockstars are talked about that couldn't hold a flame to Chrissy on stage. I seen many bands and she was very real.

Can't comment on Easybeats coz I only saw Stevie Wright as a solo performer. He was good, but it was Divinyls that began like primal savage animals. Same way Midnight Oil, Rose Tattoo, AC/DC and The Angels began.. Just intense and loud. But all those bands would mellow in time. I couldn't imagine leaving the Divinyls first album on the shelf. It's a great rock 'n' roll album.

As mentioned in the comment, Chrissy and Divinyls were a different animal in 1981 to what they were in 1991. The Australian pub rock scene was volatile and performers could get glassed in the face if they ''under performed''. Chrissy played in that environment, and being a woman made it tougher. But she knew how to rip into them. It was scary. Anyway, respect to both bands. I've subscribed.

I can see you put a lot of work into your reaction, and keep your mind on what to say. It seems you care about the music you're listening to, and for that I will subscribe. Like Kaitlyn Batt, I also have a few war stories about my time chasing bands and frequenting gigs by local bands.. Only difference is that I'm in Melbourne, and she's from Sydney. Cool channel!

Great video! Those early Divinyls albums are worth dusting off. Absolutely fantastic ‘80s rock/new wave, although I think their third album “Temperamental” is the band at its most purely rock and roll. Even the 1991 album that spawned “I Touch Myself” is a worthy listen, although much more laid back than their previous material.
