I'll never forget the way they opened the show w/ a curtain up surrounding the band while they started "Stagefright" & then it came down as they were halfway into the 1st verse. Then I was just mesmerized by Rick Allen's playing. It's a challenging song to play with 2 good arms, but he only had 1 yet he never missed a beat; not even during the fast parts. His comeback was heroic. Every1 had the right reaction to him here, but we fans knew back then he was going to be fine.

Story behind this song... They had already been working on Hysteria for 4 years, during that time Rick Allen, the drummer had a car wreck which cost him his left arm, he spent time learning how to play a specially made kit with, at the time, over 45 different pedals for him to still play as if he did with two arms, now the set up is reduced to 22 pedals as he has aged and more stuff can be done with midi controllers than available in the 1980's. As they were wrapping up the studio sessions, Joe Elliott the lead singer, was playing with a riff he came up with about 2 weeks prior... Mutt Lange (producer) love it so much he begged them to turn it into a song as he felt it would be their crossover hit. When the album was finished, the label opted to release WOMEN off the album as the 1st single, against the bands wishes for it to be Pour some Sugar on me, When Women (Song) failed to really do much the label wrote off the album... it was dancers at a Strip Club constantly putting it into rotation for their sets that re-ignited the fire for Hysteria, once word got around radio Stations took it upon themselves to play Pour Some Sugar On me, which rockets it up their top 3 requested song for 3-5 weeks. It was finally with more promotion from the label the album gained way more airplay and recognition. While there are many other Def Leppard songs that are better than Pour Some Sugar on Me (Photograph, being one of them) Pour some Sugar on me is widely recognized because of its arena anthem feel. Once it was played Live in Denver Colorado during the "In the Round" concert, the music video was spliced from footage of that performance along with other footage and combined. There are 2 versions of Pour Some Sugar on me, This version which was the radio play version, along with being the cut available on the Greatest Hits Album, the Album Version which has a different intro is mainly found on the commercial release of the album in the US. The Band has played both versions live, early performances, where your biggest hit is sometimes your lead off song, they perform this version with the "Love is Like a Bomb" intro. In more recent live performances, Pour Some Sugar on Me is usually the last song played during the eoncore performance along with Photograph, which is there other well known huge hit and considered one of the top 10 best rock songs ever made. The album version is now played during the encore which starts with "Step Inside Walk This Way, you and me babe... HEY HEY!" One of the rarest but really great versions is an acoustic performance from 1995 done at a pub in England for a small but very appreciative crowd. Queen, David Bowie, the BEatles and Def Leppard are national treasures to the English...

Def Leppard is Jim Abbot's favourite band. No? I remember that New Year's 1984, waking up and hearing that Allen had lost his arm. Still have the Times of London article in my scrapbook. Next thing you know, he's getting busted for beating his wife. Yeah. With one arm. So, for those who were sick of "Still of the Night" we have the uber-bouncy "Pour Some Sugar On Me". Somebody tell #Mr.Video that it's not actual sugar, babe. (Kids are so literal these days.) And as always on display, Momma's inimitable ability to pick just the right moments to help you burnish the memory of this old classic. It's nice to be 24 again, even for just a few minutes. RIP Clarke. Thanks, #Momma!

I was a senior in HS snd in Color guard when this was first popular. I was co-captain. All the other girls and the coaches knew that I would listen to music loudly with my walkman (yes I’m old😂) right before we got off the bus at competitions to get psyched up and in the zone. I was known as a “goodie two shoes”. Didn’t drink, didn’t smoke, date, party etc. The guard was very superstitious and on the way to one competition, my walkman broke and they were freaking out because I could not listen to my music. They asked the instructor if they could just play my music in the bus sound system. I looked at my instructor and said, not sure it will be what people expect. My good friend was laughing saying this will be fun. My instructor was smirking. They knew me. She said as long as everyone agrees. They said they didn’t care if it was classical, they needed me to do what I normally did. The looks on their faces when this song started blaring through the bus. 😂

If you want to know what determination is then it's definition is Rick Allen. He was so determined to rejoin the band he had a drum kit specially made so he could play with is feet the parts he played with his missing arm(lost after a car accident look up the story). AT first they brought in a second drummer to help out and at one gig he was late and joined in during the set and they didn't know he wasn't there. He told that band after the gig "You don't need me". Def Leppard are a great band with all that has happened during their career. RIP to Steve Clark(guitarist with long blond hair). This song helped kickstart the album Hysteria into the stratosphere.
