💬I know, I know. I did another live version first. 😅 In general, I prefer studio versions of most songs over live versions, unless I am in the same room with the artists. I plan on doing the studio version but the live version is probably one of the best live versions of a song I’ve seen on video. I want to wait a bit to do the studio so there are more reactors to use. 99% of the reactors have heard this song, but have not seen the live performance. That was another factor in why I did the live version first. This edit was particularly tough due to the audio waveform (not sure if that’s the technical term) was difficult to match up in the last half of the song. Plus I used a fair amount of different reactors. Enjoy! ONTO THE NEXT! 💜

The drum fill... Phil made this fill and another fill. (At his home studio...along with other parts of the song) When he went to the main studio to mix the song, he grabbed all the tapes of the different tracks he had recorded. I truly believe that there are people out there who do make great music. Music like this where they don't use autotune, play their own instruments and write their own songs. I just think they don't get record deals anymore. It's much easier to control an artist you have created then it is to control an actual artist. The handpick these people and create for them a public identity, a facade that is easily marketable. With auto-tune and music sampling, anyone can appear to be musically talented

Being a man of this generation that the song came out in. I could not count the many times I have heard this beautiful iconic song play Phil Collins. And I have seen every one of these reaction videos individually. I have to say you edit them together very nicely. But the best reaction I've ever witnessed was it when I was at work one night security for a very large chain of grocery store. And I was up on the bridge looking at security monitors best people came in walking through the store doing their shopping is couples families individuals. I also was able to choose the music being played and this was one that happened to play. And if you know this song you know the drum drop. It is legend to this song alone. And I kid you not, when it came up, every single bro , which had to be at least seven.. all dropped what they we're doing. In one case let go of his entire basket of goods... And proceeded to knock out an air drum 🥁 in whatever aisle they were in. All of them in unison the Phil Collins. It was glorious to witness. And I knew right then and there this song was legend. And to see this compilation 40 years later gladly proved me right. Rock on.

Almost every single one of us from GenX knows this song absolutely blew up on Miami Vice- circa 1981. Fun fact: This song is about the lingering tension caused by the divorce of Phil Collins and his first wife. These negative feelings were "In The Air," and affecting not just the couple getting divorced, but the entire family. Urban Myth: When Collins was a young boy, he witnessed a man drowning someone, but was too far away to help. Later, he hired a private detective to find the man, sent him a free ticket to his concert, and premiered the song that night with the spotlight on the man the whole time.

I’m confused that all of these reviewers (especially the majority who have heard the song before) are mind blown that he’s the drummer. Phil Collins is first and foremost a drummer and producer. He was Genesis’ drummer from 1971. This, his first solo effort, came out in 1980. How, in 43 years has it escaped so many that he’s a drummer, and a revered one at that. He pioneered the drum sound of the 80s and 90s. That said, I have to admit that the “he plays drums???” reveal is what makes these reactions compelling to me. Maybe liner notes (poured over as the album spun on the turntable) are the lost gems of a bygone era. They were meticulously written and actually imparted knowledge to the listener that’s overlooked today.
