Her version is actually a cover … The song was written and recorded by Jon & Vangelis (Jon Anderson from Yes on vocals, writing lyrics, and Vangelis performing the music). The duo recorded four albums together. Vangelis is best known for his soundtracks to “Chariots Of Fire,” “Blade Runner,” “1492: Conquest of Paradise” and many others. Most of his music was recorded on the first take, no notes, no rehearsals.

Goodness, I had forgotten all about this song by Ms. Donna...I always loved it because of the beat....and my, my Marilyn McCoo was so young when she introduced her. When I bump into music that I have forgotten about I always think about the amount of information we all have stored in our brains....how we can hear the first bar or two of a song's music and instantly recall all the words from long ago. Amazing song that hasn't gotten nearly enough reactions on KZbin. This song has been considered a precursor to "We are the World", as it was also produced by Quincy Jones and also featured the "All Star Choir." One of my all time favorites. While I was watching this, I couldn't help but also notice that you bare a passing resemblance to the Queen of Disco. Have a great day.

Hey Lady P! I know it’s hard to be aware of certain info these days without liner notes as you’d find on an album cover or cd. 1st, that female cohost is the incredible Marylin McCoo, of the Fifth Dimension. Perhaps you’ve reacted to them? They were a group of five black American singers, who had some real success with pop as well as r&b audiences. Hits: Up Up & Away, Stone Soul Picnic, Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In, One Less Bell to Answer, & Wedding Bell Blues. But on to Queen Donna, aside from her music being very well arranged, she had a great singing voice, probably best of the disco singers & she was versatile, as song like this one, Hard for The Money & Unconditional Love help to highlight. She also seemed to have a great personality, comfortable on camera. So sad to see her succumb to cancer. Now the mind blow: To the ear, this track just sounds like they hired a church choir or something. You would not believe the combination of solo artists that make up this background vocal section, totally professional, & dedicated to their craft, & showing their respect for legend maestro Quincy Jones who produced the recording. You should still actually be able to find a rough video of the backing vocal session on KZbin. Michael McDonald, Lionel Richie, Kenny Loggins, Christopher Cross, Dionne Warwick, Stevie, & yes, even Michael Jackson, before he was Thriller & gloves one, etc. You can then see that this session almost served as a prototype for the iconic We Are The World project. You may even want to react to it. There is one unusual thing that might surprise, although it was more common back then. I believe this recording is around 1979 or ‘80. Anyway, Ms. Donna Summer surely left a globally significant mark on music. Great reaction As well! 👍🏾
