Yes, this is a movie song. And this particular movie was a huge, huge thing in Poland back in the day as this was third and final movie by the same director based on a book series by Henryk Sienkiewicz. Those books are called in Poland The Trilogy. Every Pole knows instantly what trilogy you mean. This is how famous those books are, and believe me - they are LEGENDARY. This is something like a western set in old Poland back in the day where guns weren't really a thing. The books of the trilogy are as follows: * "Ogniem i mieczem" ("With Fire And Sword"), * "Potop" ("The Deluge"), * "Pan Wołodyjowski" ("Mr Wołodyjowski"). The movies were put to screen in backwards order, the last one was filmed first. So "Ogniem i mieczem" was actually the last movie that ended the trilogy and this is why this was so huge in Poland. The books are actually based on historical events in Poland, full of epic battles, charismatic characters and drama. Same with the movies. The duel scene from "The Deluge" is widely considered one of the best fencing scenes EVER. No tricks, no stunt doubles, actors actually fought with real sabers and one of the actors was actually in mortal peril at one point, deflecting the blow at the last possible moment. The song refers to main characters on "Ogniem i mieczem", a noble soldier Jan Skrzetuski and his fiancee Helena Kurcewiczówna. Their love is actually very unlucky, this is a war time, he is a soldier and she actually gets kidnapped. He has his duty and on top of that actually gets in serious trouble at one point so things get very, very complicated. The rude looking black-haired dude you can see in a music video is actually a villain in the movie who kidnaps Helena. An interesting and pretty tragic character in his own right, despite being a villain.

Hello from Poland. The song comes from the soundtrack of the movie "With Fire and Sword". It is a Polish historical movie from 1999, directed by Jerzy Hoffman, based on the novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz of the same title. It is the last of the three parts of Sienkiewicz's trilogy transferred to the screen by Jerzy Hoffman, after "Mr Wołodyjowski" (1969) and "The Deluge" (1974), although the order of writing the trilogy was the opposite. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bobdnqWpip13las After years... (after 17 years) the text of song is below: Edyta: My cloud-eyed falcon Ask the high mountains about me Ask the wise forests about me And set me free My falcon, my lucid one Ask the rushing streams about me Ask the wildflowers about me And set me free My beloved... Mietek: How am I supposed to ask the stars in the skies? They are envious of your dowry: Of your four chests of love And of your kindness Edyta: My beloved... Mietek: How am I supposed to ask the other women? Edyta: They shall find my heart within you Together: And although they know, they won't tell I will not find you Edyta: My thundering falcon Ask the famed steppes about me Ask those fragrant bents And set me free Mietek: Through the ashen barrows Through the khutors all in flames I know no sleep anymore, measuring off the steppe To find you Edyta: My beloved... Mietek: How am I supposed to ask the moon? He is in love with your eyes He will drive the sun away and cover up the steppe I will not find you Edyta: My beloved... Mietek: How am I supposed to ask the Cossack? Edyta: Who has fallen sickly in love Together: In his grief he would set the whole world on fire If he lost... Mietek: You Edyta: Me Mietek: If he lost you Edyta: How am I supposed to ask the moon? Mietek: He's in love with your eyes Together: He'll drive the sun away and cover up the steppe You will not find me With fixed eyes, engrossed in So modern up to the limit In a dark theatre, secretly We wipe away our tears ENJOY ;-)

I sm loving your reactions to Polish music, Paul :) I am very thankful for that :) I think this needs a little backstory this song Dumka na 2 serca meaning Song (dumka) for two hearts - dumka is Ukrainian traditional song usually describing past events or life of people or heroes. This is a song for a movie titled Ogniem i Mieczem meaning With Sword and Fire. This movie is based on the nowel by our Noble Award winner writer Henryk Sienkiewicz called Trylogia (Trylogy), This is first part of Trylogy - Ogniem i mieczem - With sword and fire. The plot both of the movie and the book is set in 17th century Poland and this is kind of historical romantic adventure book. it was written by Sienkiewicz at the end of 19th century when Poland did not exist as a country and was divided among Russia, Austria and Prussia (Germany) to lift up spiriits of Polish people. If you find this movie with Engllish subtitles I recomment to watch it, this movie is well done. Song to this movie is Ukrainian, because in 17th century Polish territory was much further to the east reaching Black Sea. And out traditional outfits that our noblemen wore were more eastern than western. I like this reaction. Hugs from Poland - Karolina PS About Polish pronounciation: first congratulation for pronouncing Mietek family name Szcześniak :) I know we have some extremely difficult sounds to pronounce so bravo for trying and succeeding :) and letter c is pronouced as it is written "c" (tz) not k. Our letter sound as they are written. W sounds v not w if you see letter Ł ł this sounds w like in west :).

Probably others have already written it, but it is a song promoting the movie "Ogniem i mieczem" ("With Fire and Sword") from 1999, which is part of the trilogy based on Polish books Nobel laureate of Henryk Sienkiewicz (another part of this trilogy is, among others, "Potop" nominated for an Oscar for the best non-English language film). The main roles in this film were played by Michał Żebrowski (the first to play the role of Gerald of Rivia from "The Witcher" in 2001), and Izabella Scorupco, who was a "Bond girl" in the movie "Goldeneye".

This song is from the movie "With Fire and Sword" by Hofmann. This is the first part of the trilogy, the second part is "The Deluge" and the third "Pan Wolodyjowski". The trilogy is written by Henryk Sienkiewicz - Nobel Prize in Literature. The first part tells about the invasion of the Cossacks under the command of Chmielnicki, who, for the blood of Poles, joined the army of the million Turks and Tatars. The action takes place from 1647 for the next few years. Chmielnicki expected a boulevard of great glory, more rights for the Cossacks. It is part of the Polish national culture. It is said that every Pole has to read the trilogy and is even obliged to do so. I have at home all the parts of the Fire and Sword Trilogy in large print and it is 550 pages long. All 3 parts are 1800 pages of REAL HISTORY OF POLAND. The first sentences begin like this: The year 1647 was a strange year in which various signs in heaven and earth heralded some calamities and extraordinary events. Contemporary chroniclers recall that the spring of the orange tree sprouted in incredible numbers from the Wild Fields and destroyed crops and grasses, which was a prophecy of Tatar attacks. In the summer there was a great eclipse of the sun and soon after the comet appeared in the sky ........ that is why many looked to the east, to the Wild Fields from which the danger was to come - these are the first fragments of this extraordinary history of the Republic of Poland

In the background you can see fragments of the film "With Fire and Sword. This is one of the 3-volume parts of Henryk Sienkiewicz who received the Nobel Prize. The film begins in 1647 with the attack of the Cossacks and Tatars on Polish lands. This part of the film tells primarily about the defense of the castle "Zbaraz" in which, among others, Jan Skrzetuski 01:52 makes it through the over million Tatar army at night to tell the king what the situation is and ask for help. The main defender of the city was Jeremi Wiśniowiecki, who was feared by the entire Cossack-Tatar army. Despite all efforts, the castle fell, but it is one of the most interesting stories of Polish history

So just so you know polish sound "sz" is pronounced as "sh" like in SHed. Then polish sound "cz" is pronounced like "ch" in CHeeseburger. "C" is like at the beginning of Cyberpunk, so it's not a "k" sound. "Ś" is a sound somewhere between "sh" and "s" like in the irish name Siobhan. So his surname would be Shchesniak for example. Hope this helps a bit! Also, the lady which is playing here is also know in Staes - her name is Izabella Scorupco (Izabella Skorupko), she was playing in the Bond movie GoldenEye
